Though I'm sure some will say they deserved it, I for one think it's a shame. They responded to the fire, but just let it burn. Why respond?

The article here doesn't say it, but 4 pets burned to death in the fire.....

https://www.wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=13283472

There are all kinds of clips and articles about this. I no longer get a newspaper so I didn't catch this until I read it on a pet board.

They responded in case it got out of control and threatened the home of someone who had paid the $75.

I wish him luck with the lawsuit.

lol. are you being sarcastic about wishing him luck or not dev?

i would have figured you would prefer the privatized by in, opt out rather than taxation to pay for it all.

i think its a tough situation.

the optimal solution to all of this would have been to ask the owners while the fire was burning if they would agree to pay 100% of the cost of the fire.

its a shame the animals died, but as far as the property itself, I figure this is the same as insurance. if you let your insurance lapse and wreck your car, you are SOL.

i'm willing to bet his insurance policy is expired or void as well. no way would the insurers give him a policy knowing he failed to pay his fire brigade fee.

Prog, that may be true, but in other places that have a fee like this, it's in their property taxes. And they had paid it before, just not this year. Here where I live, we have a fee for flood water and it's on our water bill. There's ways of getting that money, before, OR after the fact.

Hopefully their ambulance service isn't the same way.

something similar to this happened near here. a guy's house was on fire and they sent the wrong fire department. when the FD arrived, they realized the fire was out of their rural jurisdiction so they weren't allowed to try and put it out. guy lost his whole house before the correct FD arrived.

back in the day if there was a fire and people had water and equipment everybody helped out. now you gotta cut through red tape before they can do anything about a fire.

I will sit back and watch this thread burn much like the firefighters did that house.

Here ya go!

We could talk about how some socialized government programs like fire protection are a good thing and how tragic an illustration it is when we see our fire protection services acting like the health care industry, but what kills me about this story is that the fire fighters sat in their trucks as the 3 dogs in the house burned alive.

Being a dog person this whole thing gets me worked up. I mean, I used to think fire fighters were heroes but these guys are just a bunch of spray-for-pay whores. Personally, if I was minding my business and had the power, training and tools to save the lives of 3 dogs, not to mention the cat and the house, and did nothing I would be a rotten human being. I would not have stood by and watched. I could not have done nothing. The house, well, they have insurance, but the dogs should not be allowed to die like that.

City taxes usually, but some rural areas pay seperate fees.

Yeah some rural areas pay much less or sometime no city taxes since they don't live within the city.

It sucks for them but I cant fell overly sorry for them. If I lived in a place where I knew I needed to pay a firefighter fee every year I would be damn sure I paid it.

I'm mostly serious that he has grounds for a lawsuit.

If he wanted the house saved, he should be willing to pay the bill if he hadn't paid the annual fee. I don't know if he ever offered, but he did offer to pay the $75, and they refused.

If he just expected them to do it out of the goodness of their hearts, then I'd say he's ____ out of luck. Too bad the dogs had him for an owner.

I'm thinking that the firefighters could have just saved it, sent him the bill, and then if he didn't pay, take it to collections court or whatever. But, it seems they had no intention of lifting a finger, no matter what.

Also, this is exactly how taxes screw up normal business. :monkey3

:exactly::exactly:

I hope they sue the hell out of the FD. Standing there and watching everything burn including helpless pets over $75? WTF?? I would've called the cops and have them arrested for trespassing.

this is absolutley horrible.

i hope he sues and they get a lifetime subscription of fire department cooperation..i would set poop on fire for them to come out and put it out..

They should've put it out and then charged him the $75.00 PLUS $1,000 penalty or even more......

BUT PUT OUT THE DAMN FIRE!

Sheesh!

Last I checked we are still humans!

What's next in this country, before they extricate you from your smashed up car they first check to see if you paid!
