There are many reasons Sideshow bodies don't stand up on their own well.
1) Their heads weigh more than their entire clothed bodies.
2) The lack of ankle articulation limits flat footing.
3) The knee joints are ratchet-like which impedes balanced posing.
4) And as you noted, the boots are made of hard plastic. Pleather boots or at least soft plastic/rubber would be nice.
But aside from the body, I think Anakin is a great figure with one of the better costumes.
