I have to agree. Insurance is seller protection, not buyer. IMO you factor it into your shipping costs, buyer doesn't get a choice.

I have yet to sell anything big on eBay so I don't know.

The seller buys the insurance, and if the buyer says it came broken, the seller files the claim? How can you file a claim if you no longer have the item?

You contact the shipping company and give them all the info. Then contact the buyer and let them know the company will pick up the item to inspect and investigate.......then you wait for the company to call you and say "sucks to be you, we won't cover it".

So when I sold my Mechanic Tony Stark a few months back, the buyer paid and completed checkout. Once it was delivered, they didn't want it any more and rejected it. I ended up losing money on it as I didn't get ebay to refund me the cost of shipping it there in the first place since I had free shipping on it. . I made sure and mentioned in THREE places on the listing that there were no returns. Buyer bought it anyways and rejected it, costing me money on the item. Ebay sided with the buyer in that case

There are definitely lessons to be learned. I just hate that even though I had no returns, ebay still sided with the buyer and rewarded them. I'd been fine refunding the buyer had they changed their mind before I shipped it 2200 miles away. In selling on ebay for years, they definitely side with the buyer over even Top Rated sellers. It's disappointing but I know there are sketch sellers. Just make sure if you sell Hot Toys or 1:6 scale figures, use USPS with insurance over $200 as this also required recipients to sign for the package upon delivery. I'm rambling now but figured I would share my thoughts.

If the buyer has a change of heart, I wouldnt refund the shipping. They have commited to buy and are contractually obliged too. If its damaged, I refund the full amount.

Basically, if it turns up damaged, your screwed. You have to go throught the ebay dispute process and then refund and file a claim.
The problem is couriers will not pay out on anything fragile so your looking at a partial refund or a returned damaged item. This is where there is scope for the buyer to take advantage as they could say there is a faint line under the base or there is a small paint chip .... and I want $100 off!!
Iv even heard off buyers asking for partials for dinged boxes lol.

What I also hate is the last time I issued a refund, im sure you now pay a refund fee with ebay, around £2 .
And then paypal issue the refund by Echeque so the buyer has to wait a further week or so for theyre money to arrive.
So basically a bombardment of where is my refund, when am I going to be refunded, still no refund......

Too much drama .

I want to comment on a SELLER on ebay: GUINEVEREP. She sold me a very expensive chess set that cost me $200.00. Her picture was very distant and only had one pic, but she listed that it had never been used and was in the original case, and I believed her. When I got it, it was missing two very important pieces, that I can't pick up anywhere else. I tried working with her. She refused to accept a return, with me paying for sending it back. She was very nasty about it. She contacted Ebay and convinced them I shouldn't be able to return the item. WATCH OUT FOR THIS SELLER. Total SCAM!
