This could be an interesting topic/debate.

A lot of you were disappointed with Predators. So I ask, what to you would make a great Predator movie?

I've been thinking about this. While I liked Predators, it could've been better. I was just happy it was what it was.

So far, the only idea i've come up with to make it something new would be, dont follow the original Predator....at all. No refrences, other then "One ugly mother...." aside from that, no shots, no homages...nothing.

Theme stays. Has too. Predator without the Predator theme is silly.

I'll think of some ideas....we could be on to something here....

Batman dead end but without the aliens. Terminator 6, Predators destroy skynet to save the humans for their future prey. AVP3 would continue from terminator 6.

well l have said my idea before that other members liked. l hated predators. my idea is at least 2 preds stalking marines on the pacific islands during world war 2. l think that would be awesome.

The problem is finding a new(ish) angle. Unfortunately, AvP:R and Predators have taken two promising lines and half-baked them; a Predator hunting an escaped alien super-monster on Earth, and Predator vs Predator. Conversely, it can’t be anything too fanboyish, like a Predator civil war or a movie with no human characters. Leave that to the comics where budget, exposition and hitting a general audience are not issues.

General points, though

- Keep it small. The Predator ‘hook’ is hunting, not all out Star Wars-style warfare.
- Make the Predator an anti-heroic character rather than a monster. Predators fell flat on its face here, Falconer aside, I never got a sense that the Predators were characters with a personality of their own. P2 did this brilliantly.
- CelticP said it, keep out-of-context references to a minimum. P2 and AVP did this fairly well, there are the thematic similarities you’d expect from the presence of the Predators, but not the sort of blatant ripping-off that AvP:R and Predators engaged in.
- Only one Predator for most of the movie!!! I think AVP and Predators have shown that having multiple ‘lead’ Predators just dilutes their impact.

A non-20th century setting could help a lot; the Thomas bros have talked about wanting to do a historical setting, the Strauses wanted to do an outer space one. Either could work - but no prizes for guessing who I’d rather see leading!!! :)

(BTW – I actually enjoyed AvP-R and Predators, I just think there are lessons to be learnt!)

Personally, I’m a bit stumped on how to do a 6th movie without it just feeling like a remake of Predator in a different setting – P2 took that idea about as far as it will go, adding spice by turning the tables and having a special team go in actively hunting the Predator. I’d actually rather see the franchise take another 10-year holiday than go into mindless sequel churning mode.

Wouldn't that be just Predator in WW2? You guys complain about Predators being Predator0.2, so...:dunno

AvP in the alien universe. It could work if they left those 2 horrible AvP movies aside and tried something else.
It would have to be scary, dark and claustrophobic. Making the audience scared of the monsters, but at the same time developing certain characters like in Predator, Predators, Alien and Aliens.

Am I asking too much?
Oh, and it would have to be a longer movie, like Aliens. So it would have to have a big budget.

Here´s some of that atmosphere Im talking about:

My thoughts exactly. P2 and Predators managed to spin by having humans hunt Predators, and Predators hunt Predators... just changing the setting isn't even going to achieve that.

EDIT:

Actually, I think the "Concrete Jungle" game has the core of a good idea. Pitch the Predator as the (anti-)hero, with the threat coming from unscrupulous humans exploiting stolen Predator tech - maybe as drugs, weapons etc. This allows for leads who find they have a common cause with the alien. Granted it's a bit too close to AVP / Predators for comfort, but there could be a good theme of "Humans are the real monsters".

I'd like to see something similar to 30 days of night, but with only a couple of predators (maybe competing with each other for trophies), and very few humans. perpetual night, lots of tense hiding, lots of potential for setting traps, some classic scenery. like the start of AVP before they did that gay pyramid stuff. also similar to the first AVP graphic novel with machiko. what i liked about 30 days of night was the atmosphere it created right from the start, which meant you didn't need a huge lead up to the appearance of the vampires.

and i'll like to see a couple of badass mother humans this time protecting a few other weiners, maybe fugitives from war crimes, hiding out in a small mining town. brody was ok, but i'm talking someone with arnie's ability to look huge and menacing. necessary for the eventual showdown. maybe one of them can be a grizzled veteran like denzel washington, kurt russell or mickey rourke. no-one comes to mind for the other role. thomas jane? he made a decent punisher and he can be big. was good in the mist too.

and we need some brutal hand to hand slayings, cloaked spears, gauntlets slashing up people etc.

The year is 1945, a bloody conflict is drawing to a brutal conclusion as, The Red Army invade Berlin. It is here now that bullets fly and blood flows like a raging river. A creature not of this world has watched the war unfold from the start, but it is only now it decides to make it's move. With an un-Earthly arsenal like no man has seen The Predator is coming to claim some prized trophies. From Soviet Generals to SS Commanders it's coming and neither side is safe from the grasp of The Predator....

If I were a producer I'd read Jeff VanderMeer's Predator: South China Sea and I'd turn into a movie. Almost no need to change anything. It's simply the best Predator story I've ever read.

For starters. I would use the original Predator (just one), give him awesome new gadgets and weapons, and make him very hard to kill, or else he survives with whatever trophies he kills and takes back to his home planet.

I'd like to see a movie based more on the Predator's point of view. Also I was thinking of having it take place in a desert area like Afgan or something. Maybe have the Pred take out a few Al Queda militants then hunt some elite groupe of soldeirs. Idk I usually keep my mouth shut in these type of threads cause my ideas suck.

I heard they were making 2 more terminators so to end the movie line and do a spin off it would have to be T6

Because of how poorly Salvation did at the box office, those plans were scrapped, I'm fairly certain there are no movies planned or in the works, Terminator is pretty dead in the water.

Im still thinking of an Idea for a Predator movie, don't worry, :lol

I enjoyed Predators but I agree that it could've been better.

My Predator movie would never get made.
If it were me, I would like to make a movie with little or no dialog whatsoever. Everything woul be told via the expressions and mannerisms of the Predators.
it would be all about the Predators but yet still keep at lot of things obscure and unexplained which is the real back bone to the success of the franchise I think.
Do a kind of tormented Predator kinda thing.

Not sure anybody would have a movie with no traditional dialog though.
