Rest in Peace, Mr. Howard Zinn! :(

"I've never killed a man, but I have read many an obituary with a great deal of satisfaction." -- Clarence Darrow

Zinn was a socialist gas bag whose life's work was denigrating this country and anything and everything it stands for. I'm sorry for the loss felt by anyone close to him (if he had anyone) -- but I'd have a hard time mourning personally.

I don't know much about the man, but I'm sure there's probably just as many pros as cons against him, as there is with most politcally-minded people. You may not agree with everything someone says, but at least it stirs dialogue.

I'm with ya.

Pretty classy bunch of douche bags around here....

I can't even fathom the thought process of individuals who would use a collectibles forum as an opportunity to bash a person who just passed, regardless of your political views.

I'm with you Flosi. I didn't always agree with him, but he always got me thinking. And isn't that better than someone who just goes with the flow? RIP, sir.

The thought process is similar to those who would use a collectibles forum to blow smoke up the skirt of an avowed anti-American. If the topic hadn't been raised by someone else, I wouldn't have mentioned a word.

My sympathy was expressed for those that lost someone close to them. But, he won't be missed by me -- and I'll not blow smoke and pretend he was a gift to mankind. He dedicated his life to the denigration of this country, and made a fortune bashing this country and its citizens -- he did more harm than good.

And, honestly, it isn't political. I've been far less critical of people with whom I severely disagreed -- but their intentions were good. His were not ... he was an anti-American through-and-through. People here would not be complimentary of a deceased anti-Semite -- why should we regard a deceased anti-American with any greater respect?

:lecture:clap I had wrote something but deleted it. You put it so much better than I anyway.

To me, political commentary in what amounts to an obituary thread is both classless and self serving. I'm in no way bringing up any specific viewpoint that is either pro or anti Zinn or his works, just my viewpoint in regards to bashing the man in this thread. Should that stop you? No, not at all..... Just sharing my point of view.

There's not such thing as anti-American...
Questioning the government, or acts of war is not anti-American...

That's just a made-up shield to remain blinded by the facts and consequences of certain actions...

That would depend on who you're asking wouldn't it? During Vietnam when Hanoi Jane was photographed yucking it up with the enemy I damn near consider that treasonous and therefore anti-American while you would most likely consider it anti-war.

That is absurd. Ever hear of Osama bin Laden? He certainly qualifies as anti-American.

Anti-Americanism is no less existant than anti-Semitism or Xenophobia. If it is possible for people to hate a country other than this one ... it is possible for them to hate this one.

Exhibit A -- Howard Zinn. He didn't question "acts of war", he questioned "acts of war" by this country. He justified acts of war against this country.
