I can agree with that. They are pretty innovative in non-standard stuff. If they can accomplish that stuff for the SW line it would be pretty cool. And actually something like the power loader seems fairly reasonable at $250 (including the Ripley).

However, $90 for something like the Rocky figures or Prison Break figures seems absolutely ridiculous.

If SSC can handle standard figures for $50-$60 and Hot Toys do droids for $80-$100 then that might make more sense to me.

That would be the best case scenarion imo. SSC handling the humans and aliens, HT the armored guys and droids. I'm willing to pony up the extra bucks once in a while for a really top notch Vader or droid, but I don't want to be paying $100 or more for each and every release.

I still can't believe there was little to no reaction in the room from the announcement at the SDCC Panel. Seriously, I wanted to jump up and high-five everyone in the room, starting with the SSC guys! :rock

But most people were like "Ho hum... show us some more advance pics of upcoming products!"

When i was watching the video on the SSC site coverage i was like YES! Sweet when the annouced the upgrade. And then i relised no reaction from the crowd, thought that was a bit strange.

I can understand the quiet crowd reaction, I'm sure my first impulse would be show new products, especially with the Palpatine ****-tease they gave, but I'm sure those quiet souls chatted up about it after the fact, it's too big not to discuss.

There's just no comparison between the two. Working with HT means good things for SSC. I just hope that what we get leads to atleast my expectations. Base body is a check. Head proportion (something that should be fixed) and clothing quality hopefully follows. Them working on armored characters would be freaking great. I'd pay more if the quality is there.
Maybe some limited elite figures?

Out of curiosity, what are some of the better Hot Toys items that would translate well to SW?

I know they do the bodies with hidden joints. Have they done that for female figures yet?

I have seen their Alien Marines figures get good reaction, but I don't feel they were that great. The armor looked a bit flimsy.

What is the benchmark that people are saying are that much superior to SSC product?

Well for one, Hot Toys does make armored figures and Sideshow does not. The Colonial Marine armor is not really that flimsy, though I won't deny that Hot Toys doesn't use the most secure method to keep some pieces together. Overall they are attached through the usual buckles you may find on your backpack or something...at least on the Marines that's how it is. Yes, the armor and pieces can be delicate...but these are collectible figures, not meant for heavy play.

For the best opinion, just wait till you get one in your hands and can judge for yourself.

But to expand on it, Hot Toys also is not afraid to push the boundaries and develop new body styles and designs for anything...while Sideshow sticks with their Art S. Buck design and just changes the colors up. Some Hot Toys' examples are:
-ED-209
-ALIENS Alien Warrior
-AVP Alien Warrior
-Powerloader
-Predators
-"Muscular" torso (found on Rambo,Rocky,etc.)

And not to knock on Sideshow, but I honestly feel that you can compare some of their 1/6 figures to standard $10-$15 12'' Hasbro figures than you can some of Hot Toys products. When people talk about most Sideshow figures, they talk about the head sculpt and the accessories and rarely talk about the outfit cause they're mostly cloth. But with certain Hot Toys figures, their outfits are as much of the design as their head sculpt.

But I am sure that there are Hot Toys products that can make that same comparison...same with Medicom. But ever since I was introduced to Hot Toys, they seemed to be paving the way. Competition will just end up a win-win for the fans as all the companies will figure out ways to improve their product and get more out there.

And I stand by saying that I really believe Sideshow's focus is on statues/busts/etc., and they don't have the complete resources that a company like Hot Toys has toward 12'' figures.

SS has had a few misses with their 1/6 figures, but not even those have stooped to Hasblo levels.

Sideshow does fantastic work for the price range of the figures. For that cost, only about $40 more than Hasbro or Zizzle you get a top shelf figure (most of the time). With HT, you add around $80 to that cost and you get an even more fantastic figure with insane production values. It's all about the cost bracket.

I'm just glad to see some teamwork there, makes me happy and lets me know that great things are indeed on the way. :rock

I'm really hoping for some big collaboration between the two companies regarding SW in 1/6.
I can definitely see HT handling armour and robots, and I tend to believe the prices wouldn't skyrocket out of reach. I'm pretty sure that the fan base for SW is about the same size as the Alien, Predator, Terminator, Rocky and Rambo franchises combined!
So it would be a lot easier for HT to get the investment for tooling new bodies and designs back. Besides, if HT were to do this, it would probably mean some type of joint venture with SST, right? So the costs would also be split.

Whatever, I'm just very happy with the possibilities.
And one more thing, HT getting into the big bucks of SW could also mean that SW revenue could "finance" less marketeable franchises...

I agree. I love the sculpted stuff. Jabba, his throne, creatures, weapons. It's the best part about the 1/6 line and really the only thing I don't have a problem with.

hmmmm.... that's the scenario if both company uses the co-developed technology such as the standard 1/6 body or the small body on their own current and future properties.

For individual droid figures and such that require new molds and etc, spliting the cost means that they have to sell twice as much to make up for a single figure's projected profit, so if they can't sell more, then the price has to go up.
