It's official - Deathly Hallows will be two films, directed by David Yates. So much for del Toro or Spielberg. Kloves is writing, which is a good thing, and Yates is competent, but I was hoping for a big send off.

Part 1 will debut in November 2010 and part 2 in May of 2011.

Bittersweet news. Two movies is good but Yates sucks.
I only wish that Kloves had written OotP.

Hmmm, I don't know if I like the idea. There better not be 20 minutes of the movie with them walking around in the freaking forest. Oh well, at least we can really see the book fleshed out with two movies.

2 movies = good. last movie seemed very rushed without motive for any of the characters.

I don't know the David Yates enough to comment.

There really is a lot going on in the final book so I could seeing be a good idea to have 2 movies. But I just hope they have a real plan for them and aren't just trying to milk an eighth blockbuster film.

Bummed that my one-two wish didn't happen completely (del Toro for Hobbit and Spielberg for Potter finale). I'm gonna wait until I see Half-Blood Prince before deciding about Yates, but he didn't really impress me with OotP. Not really thinking he's an action oriented director...hope to be proved wrong. Harry's escape from Privet Drive and the Battle of Hogwarts MUST be all out.

I am glad it will be 2 films. There is just too much information and too much going on in the 7th book. If you make big cuts it's damaging to the story IMO.

The only things I could really see cut would be some of the Harry/Hermione/Ron stuff in the forrest along with Ron leaving and maybe some of the stuff at Charlie's house. Other than that I see most of of the book needing to be in the film.

I am going to hold judgment until I see #6 this year. Depending on how that turns out, I'll decide if Yates was a good choice. As for making it into a two part movie, they should've done that starting with The Goblet of Fire. :emperor

I thought OOTP was a decent film. I don't blame Yates for it not being "great". OOTP was the longest book in the series and trying to squeeze ALL that into a 2 hour movie isn't easy. I think Yates did ok with the screenplay he was given.

I think HBP could suffer the same way OOTP did. Just too much info to put into a 2 hour movie.

All I can say is thank ++++ing god. I've been clamoring for 2 movies since I finished the book.

And I agree Carbo, I would've had no complaints having 2 movies for each of the last 4 movies. As far as I'm concerned, the more Potter, the better.

Yeah, anything from GOF on could have easily been 2 movies or at least LOTR length films. Mind you, I didn't realize that until after I had seen the first 5 movies because I didn't read the book until after I saw OOTP and I realized just how much was left out of GOF and OOTP and it will probably be the same with HBP.

ive never read any of the books, but is it safe to say the last book is the best one, hence 2 movies?

Hard to say if it's the best, but there is too much important information to cut out and have the entire story wrap up and make sense.

If you are even a casual fan of the movies, I highly recommend picking up the books. They are absolutely amazing.

I thought OOTP was the worst of all the movies, it seemed too rushed, alot of scenes just jump around. I think Yates wanted to make the film shorter then the others, which was dumb. I would rather see a different director.

While I'll agree with you about it feeling rushed, I still love it. GoF is still my favorite but OOTP is #2 or 3.

There is a battle at the end of the book (maybe just 1/8th of the book long) that IMO should last on screen about as long as the Helms deep battle in Two Towers to do it correctly.

I agree with everyone else. The more potter the better. I think its a shame GOF and OOTP were not 2 films (or 3 hour epics).

Which is ironic, because the Helm's Deep Battle in the book was like 8 pages. :rotfl:rotfl:rotfl And it was like half the bloody movie.

I'm happy about it being split in two. I think the other movies from GoF on could have benefitted from that, but we would only just now be getting the first half ot OotP and it would be like 2013 or 14 before we got them all. I'm not sure how old the actors are but they might look too old to play the parts by that time.

True, though it was a good move as half the book is Frodo, Sam and Golumn walking around and accomplishing about as much as Jackson was able to show in 20 minutes of scenes.
