Hobby-Galaxy
Super Freak
This piece is beyond awesome!
First of all, it's huge. Not the biggest and definitely far from the heaviest one I ever ship, but it's too freaking tall, so it's gonna be a pain in the behind to ship it . Anyway I'll deal with it.
The ship has amazing design to begin with, and the outstanding sculpting and molding really brings it to life. No detail is spared. Everything is well defined, with lots of tiny joints and intricate parts, it looks complicated but not flimsy (still try not to drop it on the floor please).
The best part is the wonderful paint job, especially on those scary looking legs. Metallic-hued gradient purple and blue gives the piece some evil insect feel. In hand it looks like a giant cockroach crossed with squid, kinda gross and really bad@ss.
The base is a tiny diorama depicting a ruined city. It's not super detailed but sufficient for the purpose, which is to show the scale of the ship. The base has several sockets to put those legs in, and once settled it is pretty stable. But interestingly the cover art is not showing the ship in this intended position.
Overall a must have for any Mass Effect fan, and even if you are not familiar with the game, you will be proud to add it to your collection. I'm slightly let down by zero articulation on those legs, even some limited movement would have brought so much more life to this already outstanding piece. Also the diorama just screams light effect (for example some tiny LED search light cast on the ship would be awesome), but there is none.
Some pics here, more on my facebook, enjoy!
