You’re cursed, man
.
Heh seems that way
IMO, a lot of these things are non-issues. Okay fine, they’re “issues” but Idk, not enough to feel the way you do. But again, MMV, and you have higher expectations than most (especially me lol), which is fine and all, but imo, this is still a mass produced product. It’s not like it’s a super high end limited run product that resides in another tier, IMO.
The first two points are the only real issues.
The others are just not meeting expectations but aren't really issues. Something as simple as putting the hands in their proper placement is just an OCD annoyance.
For the woodgrain base, I just expect it to look more like real wood. Taking away any comparisons with JND's base looking like real wood, InArt used the real wood on the TDK Joker jail base. Sure, it was just a piece a pressed wood that was laser etched to look like wood planks, it still looks really good on that figure. Even with a slab as thin as what comes with Harry, they could've done the same thing. I used to get my my pieces of bass wood for my architectural models laser etched/cut in school, so I think it should be fairly feasible for them to be able to do it for these figures on a larger production scale.
Idk, but maybe you should call it with this company? Doesn’t seem like they’re your cup of tea. That being said, I’m intrigued by your appreciation and positive tolerance towards JND. Personally, I’d rather this INART Harry than JND Harry with worse outfit/tailoring details and a portrait that looks less like Movie 1 Harry with a tinge of Hispanic flavor to him. Lol.
I'm thinking I might call it on InArt. My girlfriend was with me while unboxing and she pretty much said the same thing that maybe I shouldn't be buying anymore InArt figures
I just really like their protos and I
want to believe that I will enjoy their figures. I do like what is typically some attention to detail on their end. Just a bunch of little things adding up on my side with the experiences I've had that take away from the overall joy in the company.
When it comes to JND, I take it as I have 2 JND pieces (3 if you split the Reeve dual set into 2) all of which have exceeded my expectations during the unboxings even when I was very weary before receiving them (especially considering their price
). I feel like I've had the opposite experience with InArt figures. Hopes and positive vibes for the most part (not Harry b/c I was nervous at this point) and then being a bit let down when they arrive.
I think the tailoring is quite comparable between both JND and InArt overall, but the white undershirt (particularly the collar) look to be more in scale on the JND than InArt's to my eyes. Portrait wise, I agree the JND doesn't resemble much of movie 1 Harry. I'm not saying I'm dropping the InArt for the JND. It's crossed my mind, but I'm not 100% for JND either. When it comes to bang for your buck, InArt wins if I remember the cost comparisons and I like aspects of both. Not great for the wallet to try to combine both, so might just opt out entirely. Going to wait it out some more and not make any rash decisions.
No ones fault but my own, but I hate how I tend to want bits and pieces from multiple companies rather than being satisfied with one and leaving it at that.
Lastly, just wanted to say this, but you’re one of the masters at futzing on this board and of course, experienced, so I have a question or two. I know you’re criticizing the hair out the box, and I agree with you that it doesn’t look like the proto, but isn’t it expected that all figures degrade from Proto to Final mass release? In addition, is futzing part of the hobby for you or no? What I mean is, while the hair out the box isn’t ideal, wouldn’t you futz with it to enhance your own copy? And if so, why does the out the box condition really matter to this extent?
I appreciate your knowledge of the hobby, so I hope I don’t come off as anything other than me expressing curiosity and intrigue. Cheers!
I wasn't trying to be negative about the state of the hair out of the box, but considering the tone of my whole review, I definitely see that haha. It's definitely fine out of the box but needs some work like just about any rooted head. I don't really expect it to look like the proto right out of the box. I just think we all hope that we get one that more closely resembles the proto if we can whether it's this Harry or any other mass produced rooted hair figure from InArt, JND or HT. But yes, if I keep it, I'll definitely work on the hair before he gets on the shelf. As you said, it's expected.
It's definitely safe to assume a bit of a downgrade from proto to final, but I do think HT has been making strides to close that gap some with recent release, at least when it comes to the headsculpts. JND seem to improve upon a lot of their statue protos from proto to production (or at least keep up with proto standards) on their statues and the hope is the same happens with their 1/6 figures-we'll see with Joker. Leaving the hair out of it, I think Aragorn has the biggest drop in headsculpt paint from proto to production for InArt's products. Despite my issues with Gandalf, the headsculpt isn't one of those-it's beautiful.
And you definitely didn't come off anything negative, man
happy to discuss! That's what we're here for.
Yeah ****** luck of the draw with the QC there. I've gotten all of their figures outside of Pennywise and haven't had any QC issues thankfully. I definitely would be hesitant to order another one of their figures if I had consistent problems. Definitely something they need to get a better hold of across the board. Sours what should be a fun experience unboxing these expensive figures.
@Gipetto0812 Hope you still get some enjoyment out of the figure! He's a great little figure once you have him posed and displayed. Unless if you're planning on selling them and going the JND route for the trio.
Not sure about going the JND route just yet or throw in the towel on 1/6 HP altogether in the hopes that either Prime1 continue with 1/4 statues or that JND go for 1/3 statues. Going to give it a little more time to see if I can enjoy the set a bit more. Not going to immediately sell it off just yet.
I have to say I don’t like the InArt head canisters. The one for my Harry was so damn tight. I had to really pull on it to get it to open up and when I did so the sculpt dislodged off the peg and fell onto the floor beside me.
Luckily I was on my living room rug so it didn’t go far but I had a brief moment that I broke something (was most concerned about his glasses).
I think I had issues with Gandalf too but that sculpt didn’t come off the peg.
yea, lots of folks had a heck of time getting the Gandalf cannister open. harry wasn't as difficult for me; but the second time opening, he did come off the post enough to fall face first into the T1000 base of the cannister. Thankfully no damage either.
