I buy figures I like the look of because of how close to the character they look and the quality.
I don't buy the figure just because I have saw the movie. I have InArt Gandalf and never even watched Lord of The Rings but know of the character very well, same with Batman.
Never sat through a whole Batman or Iron Man movie but have had quite a few figures in the past when I was less picky. For example this one from The Last Samurai I have, just because it has diecast armour and the craftmenship is outstanding but I have never saw the movie and don't intend to.
