Many have rated the PS3 as currently the best Blu-Ray player out there.

Yeah, I just don't know yet though....since there really aren't any great games for the PS3 out yet.

If I were to get a PS3, what model would you guys recommend the 60gb or the 80gb version?

With the current games and marketplace that Sony has, you'd only really need a 60gb. Maybe in the future if they even get close to what Xbox Live Marketplace has now, you'd want a 80gb. My 60gb is fine and doesn't even have 10gb used up yet.

PS3 is the best BD player out there.

It is pretty quiet too. The only problem is it gets REALLY hot after it has been on after a couple of hours.

60 or 80, no real difference so save money and get the 60.

Thanks for the info guys. I would probably save the money and go for the 60gb version. One reason I really want it is to play Pirates in HD.

Yeah, the 80GB has less backwards compatibility. I think there's some bundles though, like you get a free copy of Motorstorm or something.

Well....the 360 HD Drive is now gone and I think I am going to make room for the PS3 so that I can finally watch my Pirates the way it was meant to be seen. :chew

I love my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player, I only have 3 movies right now, but they all look and sound great and yes the PS3 is very quiet.

I also just bought a 360, so I plan on buying the HD player for it, so I can buy the movies in HD that aren't released on BD.

You should Carl, everyone deserves something nice every now and then. I will have both. I just couldn't take not having Pirates in HD any longer.

Good to hear about the PS3 being quiet. One of the few things that put me off about using the 360 as a player is that during quiet parts in a movie you can hear the dang thing going.

I have had the PS3 as my Blu-Ray player and have had no problems with it. I have the 60GB version. I bought a couple Paramount BR's the other day, since Paramount is HD DVD - only now. Taking my current total up to 18 titles.

I have been on the fence for awhile for the HD DVD player. Once, I saw this deal I couldn't pass it up any longer. I grabbed the Toshiba A20 (1080P Full HD) player along with: Batman Begins, Casino, and V For Vendetta on HD DVD for a total of $320.00 w/free shipping.

Yes, because surely your TV has component inputs, which is hi-def but just not at the level of HDMI.

Is that a catagorical statement that ONLY HDMI can do the upscaling. I have a HD tv rear projection that I use now with HD cable through component inputs but it lacks the HDMI. I guess I have the same question with regular upscaling DVD players.

Ideally I want a player that plays SACD and upscales standard DVDs. I don't need HD or Bluray per se. My priority is on SACD and Sony's BluRays don't handle that either.

So my player arrived today and all I have to say is I am NEVER going back. Even on a regular tv the HD looks clearer than cable tv. Im watching bits of Heroes now and its just amazing. So much clearer than I remember. Ahhh I think Im in love

Is that a catagorical statement that ONLY HDMI can do the upscaling.

Many times, the upscaling output via component is crippled by the manufacturer in the firmware. I have no idea why. There are usually firmware hacks out there that let you bypass this inconvenience. Just google "(your player model) firmware hack" and you should be golden.
