It would be interesting to see if they Mangold actually took this and ran with it a la Logan and made it into Indy's Unforgiven. More than likely not going to happen, but I would like to see some depth and soul put back into the story.

When the costume was on display at a con over the summer, the first thing I noticed was the missing gun. Also, the shoulder bag is on the wrong side, perhaps to cover the fact that the gun isn't there.

I'm sure he doesn't carry a firearm cause it's current day and it's all PC and all that....but I am willing to concede the fact that the movie supposedly takes place in 1969. I wasn't alive in 1969 but my understanding is that it was a bit of a turbulent time in American history and maybe open carrying wasn't a good idea.

So yeah...if he's walking the streets of San Fransisco and there's a hippie love-in going on, then he probably doesn't need a gun. But if he's in some far-off hostile jungle or desert somewhere, he should have all of his gear.

No gun for Indy on adventure is ridiculous. I don't understand the "no gun" policy from Disney. You don't want him to use the gun then have him lose it like in ToD, but to simply take it away from him because of real-world political preference is about as lame as you can get (short of putting a deliberate 'message' into a film which they probably do too).

Exactly, in Raiders he shot that Mongolian (faked) Sherpa dude in the face while he was on fire. This time he might scowl at the villain instead. That should make it disneyfied enough!
