And that doesn't guarantee they'll be good either.

For me, I'd prefer to see a crap movie with a recast Indy than a crap movie with old man Ford as Indy.

At least with the new Indy, if its terrible, I can say "He's no Ford"... but if old man Ford is terrible...

.
... reboot, with Chris Pine as the new Indy. If Bond can do it...so can Jones.
They can still do that now.
Yet that doesn't guarantee it'll suddenly be all good either.
Knowing Disney they might just reimagine him guiltily retuning artifacts and teaching CRT at university :lol

I'm sure you'll get that "crap" soon enough.
Ford and Mangold at least we know they aren't trying to reboot, or fix the character, they take and like the character as is, miles, years, and all.
Once they are gone, and it's all your beloved Disney-Story-Group in charge, unchecked by Ford and Mangold at the helm, they'll start by "fixing" (see above for meaning) everything they don't like about the character.
And you know it, Good luck with that crap. :lol

Alden Ehrenreich
Also It's hysterical (even in jest) that anyone anticipate for a second they would reboot this franchise with another - straight - white - male - character, still as the lead.
Current virtue signal protocol demands, at minimum, one, two, if not all three of those must be "fixed".
Expect them to "fix" everything you know your celebrated "reboot" implies and allows.
So this gen bereft of ideas can tell themselves; see we "created" something "new"!
Good luck with that, your new, unchecked Disney-Story-Group dream reboot version.:lol

Again, while the quality may diminish at least we know Ford and Mangold actually like the character as is, histories, miles, age, and all that comes with him, ...to the end! :wink1:

Worth repeating-
Again these films have gotten progressively worse, and should have ended with Last Crusade, so everyone is right to be on guard, I am. Yet I also love the character and have some hope in this director, who seems to want to give him a fair end. And hopefully not "fix" = remove his balls, as per the Disney Story Group, or see him replaced with some crap derivative version.
Just let it end here hopefully with a good adventure!

This movie is just gonna suck... :lol

You believers need a dose of reality. :monkey3

It's a Kathleen Kennedy led Lucasfilm production. The odds are NOT in favor of this being any good. Why set yourself up for a beating. Until proven otherwise, this will undoubtedly be worse than Crystal Skull :rotfl

I don't know what questions you say I haven't answered - the thing about maybe going to the store? "maybe" has all kinds of shades ("Maybe I'm going to smack you in the face" means you're going to get hit, "Maaybe I bought you something nice" means you got a nice gift etc.) and going to the store and planning to spend millions on filming are night and day different in complexity.

I've been pretty in the middle on this, just trying to take what was obvious from Mr Williams' words (there were a half dozen news stories from comingsoon etc that said much the same thing,) but you are belligerent on this "maybe" idea... that we both agree on.

All I said was that, absent some dementia on Mr. Williams' part, there was clearly some kind of producer/studio discussion about a new ending Mr Williams was made aware of (possibly with "maybes" involved, and yes it may ultimately lead nowhere) otherwise he wouldn't have even mentioned it.

But you seem angered by that basic conclusion, and I apologize for that. This back and forth is boring for everyone, so I'll just let this go. I am new here and this has been lesson learned.

There's a reason I have that guy on "ignore"...

The director might deny it all on Twitter but I find it hard to dismiss John Williams' comments. It wouldn't be the first time someone involved in a movie told little white lies.
The director seems to be on damage control.
I wouldn’t say people hearing John Williams' words and concluding that they're filming a new ending are "trolls" but this has all struck a nerve with the director and generated the now often used toxic fans/trolls defense screen.

These angry director twitter rants put me off altogether.

he won't allow Indy to be recast.
Your proof he has ever said, demanded, or has any control over this?

Interview, Quote, Contract, Link, anything you got, thanks!?
We've had younger Indiana Jones' .
Or do you mean just by being alive. :lol
Is this more expert paranoid twit victim hyperbole? Just say if it is.
Or if you can just link where you got it, the freaks await,

Cause likely the best thing that can happen (other than maybe a Genndy Tartakovsky style ongoing animated adventures) might be they retire the character with Ford. Rather than surrender to a Disney reboot where he'll be "fixed" for todays virtue signaling twitsters.
Thanks! :lol

Well there has already been River Phoenix and Sean Patrick Flanery so the precedent is there for other actors to portray periods of his life that Ford is too young for (which is obviously the case now for everything short of 80 year old Indy, lol.)

I mean they could just, like...not make Indiana Jones anymore when Ford finishes up..........:rotfl

I know I know, silly me. There must always be more content.
I know right. And it's not like he was some pre-established literary character like Bond or another iconic character from a novel or comic book that invites multiple interpretations. It's a very specific screen character written for a very specific time in cinema and style of filmmaking. It's like saying who's going to play the next Martin Riggs, John McClane, or John Wick. How about no one? If you want to go back to that style of adventure then invent a new character like they did with Brendan Fraser in The Mummy.

(And yes I know that this take is about as unoriginal as Hollywood itself but every so often it bears repeating, lol.)

The snark is strong with this chat forum!!!!

I'm pretty sure you are joking, but several years ago Ford made his position all along clear: "Nobody is gonna be Indiana Jones. Don't you get it? I'm Indiana Jones. When I'm gone, he's gone. This is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine... I'm sorry, man."

Brilliant! Next to wrecking the Han Solo dolly this is prime crotchety Ford.

Thank you for pointing that feature out!!

It is genuinely surprising how engaged almost in real time Mr Mangold is with the Twitter people. As others have mentioned, it brings to mind Rian Johnson and makes you wonder if Disney tacitly encourages the directors to engage in this way. You would think if Disney didn't approve of this type of hands-on interaction (there is obvious risk to colossal production investments in doing so,) the directors would be silent.

It is certainly very interesting, because studios have struggled to deal with the "troubled production" label/smear in the media for decades (even "Titanic",) and the current technologies provide an opportunity for studios to find creative ways to actively manage or even flip the narrative.

Strangely, Mr Mangold has really taken it to a new level though, micro-managing conversations, for example mocking a Twitter user who tried to state a shot in the trailer looked CGI-fake when Mr Mangold stated it was 100% actor/location. Given the presence of some quite poorly executed CGI in that trailer, you wonder why he wouldn't just leave that alone.
James Gunn doing the same thing down to responses more instant than my wife’s intersection near misses.

Ha ha yeah, I'm not sure why he would consider that to be an epic comeback. "Oh that horrible looking shot that you pointed out in the trailer? It was so badly done that it only looks like cheap CGI. It was actually all real, so there!"

:cuckoo:

LOL this is my first time going down a twitter rabbit hole, this is freakin hysterical.

Some of you expert paranoid twits need to check out.

Who doesn't love him slapping these self owned expert twits down.

Oh, wait... :lol

Given the presence of some quite poorly executed CGI in that trailer, you run the risk of shooting yourself in the foot (much like the absurd crowd of shooters in the trailer's final shot might do.)
