With all the controversy surrounding the Hot Toys DX05 Indiana Jones I've been very undecided as whether to purchase one or not. There seems to be a big split over the accuracy of the head sculpt. In some You Tube videos I've seen it looks unimpressive and in some it looks spot on. I think I've made up my mind to go ahead and buy one, which leads to my question. Since I am new to this hobby, what online site would be the best to make this purchase? Who would have the best price on the figure?
By the way, Sideshow Freaks is a fantastic and informative forum.

I say not. This sculpt is just not there and there's always a chance they'll revisit. This is HT after all.

I really like it, but wouldn't pay more than retail for it. I actually got it under retail on eBay.

Is the Indy DX05 new or been on display? Where in Atlanta are you located? I'm in north Dunwoody area, close to Perimeter Mall. Would you consider a discount for a local pick-up? If you get this message twice I apologize. I'm not sure if the private went through.

For what it's worth, I've got the SSC Indy, Medicom Indy, and HT Indy and HT Indy is by far my favorite. There are issues with all three, but HT definitely comes out on top as far as I am concerned.

To be honest, with the prices dropping into the "somewhat reasonable" range I would pick up the Toys McCoy Indiana Jones. Awesome box, awesome costume, REAL leather jacket, whip, belts, holster and gold plated (real gold, not faux) Idol, and the FIRST high end 12" Indy which has stood the test of time. Its a real vintage piece, and considering the numbers (only 3000 produced), there will always be demand.

The likeness isn't 100% Ford but no Indy figure is. The overall figure and quality blows everything else away.

As one who passed on this set after a lot of anticipation, I haven't regretted it for a second.

The sculpt isn't perfect, but that's the only thing worth criticizing about the figure. Also, it's the best Indy sculpt out there. I have it and the City of Tanis and they're an amazing set!

get it. amazing figure. sculpt isn't that bad with the right lighting and set up. You'll dig it. It may be slightly flawed in the sculpt, but it is an amazing set, and you'll love it, i'm sure. :)

I hear all of you and I have no doubt the accessories with this set are great.
That said,...the reason I got into this a little was the phenomenal accuracy of the sculpt details that began to be released. My collection is mainly 80's focused and guys like Tech Noir Terminator are of wax statue detail. THAT IS YOUNG ARNOLD!!
Now, the details of the HT Indy sculpt are really good but the ACCURACY is lacking to the point that it's debatable. I really wanted this set, but also really want my collection to have uncanny likenesses,...HT Jack Joker anyone....
Thus, I cannot and will not support a sub par sculpt effort on such a significant entity within the cinema world. For the money being charged and the bar they set, we all as consumers should expect no less. Otherwise, you are really buying a random doll with great accessories that kinda sorta resembles the great actor who portrayed him. No thanks.
I'll continue to hold the SS Indy until the TOD version is released. Yes, I understand that the current hot toys Jones is superior, but not to the point of eating $100 on the SS one and shelling out $225 more for this one with a scuplt that is actually inferior to SS sans paint work.

I commend you on sticking to your principles. :clap

I personally held out a while because of the sub-par sculpt, but ended up caving anyway. It's a big chunk of change, no doubt. But now it seems like most HT figures are $200+ right out of the gate and with little or no accessories. So compared to that, Indy's not that bad anymore.

And not to try and persuade you one way or the other, I'll show you this photo of Sideshow's Indy next to HT's Indy:

I did some light touch-ups to Sideshow Indy's eyes and beard, and changed his body to a Pro 1.2, so he did get some work done. But my real point in showing you this comparison is that you don't really realize the quality differences til they are literally side by side. Even when I look at the old Sideshow Indy by itself I think, "wow, this Indy is still pretty great." But when I look at him next to HT's, I can't deny that the quality and details are much finer in HT's. From the clothing materials to the headsculpt finish, Sideshow's feels a bit cheapy in comparison.

But the sculpt is still bad on HT's Indy. It's definitely no better in hand than it is in photos. What you see is what you get. Sometimes, every once in a blue moon, there may be a fleeting glimmer of resemblance to HF. But most of the time it's what you see here.

No offense, but your paint work didn't enhance the sculpt...imo. if your happy with it cool. I really, want to like this guy for every reason listed. But damnit if that isn't the stunt double doll from the Indiana Jones spectacular at MGM studios. I saw it back in 1989 and this fig looks just like that guy.
Indiana Jones IS Harrison Ford and Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones.

Hot Toys Indiana Jones is neither. He's the stunt double doll version.
