I think it's fair to say that if you're an Indy fan first and foremost then this figure belongs in your collection, but if sculpt accuracy is your first consideration in buying these things, then it's probably an easy pass.

ie if you really want a 1/6 Indy, get this. If you really want a 1/6 Harrison Ford as Indy, wait for a better one.

Ouch. And after I commended you, too...

Don't has a sad Lu - I reckon your Indy is as good an example of this figure as I've seen anywhere!

No offense, but your paint work didn't enhance the sculpt...imo. if your happy with it cool. I really, want to like this guy for every reason listed. But damnit if that isn't the stunt double doll from the Indiana Jones spectacular at MGM studios. I saw it back in 1989 and this fig looks just like that guy.
Indiana Jones IS Harrison Ford and Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones.

Hot Toys Indiana Jones is neither. He's the stunt double doll version.

I

I'm confused - I think you think he did the paint touch-up on the HT indy, right? And you're saying his paint work didn't enhance the HT sculpt cause that's the sculpt you said had the problem and is the stunt double dude?:dunno

I do appreciate the commendation sir. I am not saying your work looks bad. Just not sure it "improved" the SS Indy....but that's just for me. I'm sure your touch up skills are quite competent and beyond the trouble I would go to for sure.

I agree with the things you said ultimately.

No dude. I was referring to the SS Indy as far as the added paintwork.

So, as you said....you are confused:yess:

its a great figure its just not a 100% ford likeness then again not one hot toys is .

Tech Noir T1
Reeves Superman
Bruce Lee ETD
Iron Man Mark IV
Keaton Batman
Jack Joker

I agree to disagree that no Hot Toys likeness is 100% when the above are basically 100$. There is no denying the actor who portrayed them in these sculpts.

yea true which go back to saying not one of those you just named is not a 100% likeness .

I can't speak for anyone but me. I am a huge Indy fan, and I don't have one single Indy figure in my collection. Reason.........there aren't any good enough (IMO). The only Indy "figures" I think are worth a darn are the SS premium formats.

I can't look at the SS Indy 1:6 scale seriously. All their face characters look cartoony compared to HT. I had the SS, and sold it within a week, because everytime I looked at it, I didn't see Indy, I saw an older fan dressed up like Indy. SS's Legendary Scale Indy coming out in 2015 (who knows when) has eyes larger than E.T., and he looks surprised about something. Really not appealing.

The HT was a huge step forward, but the PERS system just ruined the portrait so far as I am concerned on this release. Still miles ahead of the SS, but still not good enough....IMO. I am holding out hope, that HT will revisit the line, and give us something worth while.

Completely agree sir. My SS was the very first fig I bought at the end of 2010.

I almost quit entirely right then when I received it as in hand it was miles from the pics and just generally not special feeling....more half generic.

It resides on the very bottom shelf in the detolf holding the idol standing next to the chalice prop. Down there...in the back left shady corner he looks pretty good.

As soon as I got DX Bruce Lee I realized SS was mostly crap....

Like most here I greatly anticipated this DX Indy.....

The sculpt was called out during the proto and they did nill to change it and that was a let down. Nothing about this should have a let down feel about it....already went through that with the SS one.

It will be years before another high end 1/6 company takes a stab at Indy, especially if the news that the next movie might not happen is true. The best chance of another figure will be a ToD Indy, most likely from Sideshow IF they ever decide to tackle ToD figures like they said they would.

The HT Indy is most likely the closest thing to a perfect Raiders release we will see for some time, unless Enterbay or another company gets the license.

My advice, as someone who owns multiple Sideshow and HT Indys and has sunk A LOT of money into customizing him to get what I want, is this:

- Buy the HT Indy knowing the likeness isn't perfect, but that the rest of the figure is great, give or take the whip.

Or

- Buy the HT Indy knowing that if you want a better likeness, you will need to buy the WGP sculpt and pay to have it professionally painted, probably an additional $200 for the sculpt/paint work.

Or

- Potentially wait a few years for someone to take another stab at the character.

I think once people start to see great paint ups of the WGP sculpt, there will be more demand for the HT figure.

But I will say that I believe - based on SSC's recent comments (at SDCC) regarding Short Round - that HT is developing a TOD Indy right now. And I don't think they will mess up that hero sculpt again.

That being said, I have WGP sculpt paid for and painting lined up! And yes, gonna to be $200+:yess::slap::yess::slap:gah:

I bought the HT Indy, looks much much much better in hand. Worth the price in all honesty. Won a $100 GC from sideshow, ordered a second HT Indy just because I like him so much.

I just received my new Hot Toys Indiana Jones DX05 on Saturday. First I want to thank wofford29 for the figure. He provided timely communication, fast shipping and an excellent price.
Now that I have the figure in hand I think it is fantastic, including the sculpt. I don't regret buying this for one minute. Right now the only changes I plan on making is buying the mfisher accessories when he is back up and running. I am considering upgrading the jacket if anyone has any recommendations.
I want to thank everyone on this thread for your input and opinions. Each and everyone was helpful.

Glad to hear that you like him!

There are some great looking, custom, jackets out there but are a little pricey and hard to come by.

As for production jackets, I have the SS, Medicom, and Relic Hunter jacket as well as the HT. Out of these, HT's is probably the best.

The sculpt is "fantastic" huh?

Lol,..denial ain't just a river in Egypt bro.

Hey, Crystal Skull was fantastic too right??
