Well, that last line doesn't sound as if we will be seeing any LOTR items from Weta anytime soon if ever.

Finally!! :cuss :D

"Having seen the evolution of the company and evolutions in what can be accomplished with sculpts, it could be argued that if WETA decided to revisit old characters from Middle-earth that were the subject of earlier pieces, they'd be able to put enough of a new spin on them to justify the effort. Wilson says, "I think it varies from person to person, and I think there is a valid answer to saying, 'Why don't we go back and make it better,' but there's also an argument that says, 'Are you just trying to milk the cow for more money by trying by producing another piece, even though it is better, trying to get the fans to buy it?' We are more of a progressive, moving-forward company, and we prefer saying, 'Hey, that wasn't our best work, but hey, have you seen the new cool stuff we've got?' I think that is where we prefer to be."

Thanks Fritz.

Sounds as if there is a chance they might go back but it's no better than 50/50.

I can't understand their reluctance to do so. They would have a very hard time convincing me anything new including Narnia and Kong would sell better than Lord of the Rings.

I agree. I think it's just plain silly on their part not to put out a piece or two from time 2 time. I agree you shouldn't keep looking back but don't turn your back either on the fact LOTR has allowed you to do Kong and Narnia.

:google

So their LOTR pieces are considered to be "not their best work" by themselves?! I can understand that applying to some of the pieces but many others were pretty darn good.

Sounds like he's putting a brave face on their decision to stick with Kong and Narnia lines for now.

A brave face is one thing, though. Financial reality is quite another. And noone would accuse them of milking the money if they came up with a Faramir, a Denethor, or any number of unproduced environments...

Patience, patience. They'll see the light eventually, even though Sideshow has stolen their thunder.

Who cares, anyway, now that we have the Bouncing Avatar (TM)! :naughty

I think there is hope that they'll revisit.

"What you do is celebrate your past periodically through your future, but at the same time, the main thing is you need to move forward."

"If you compare our first 'Lord of the Rings' pieces to our current 'Narnia;' or 'Kong' pieces, the detailing's far higher. We've learnt an awful lot over the years."

Exactly. If they were to release the pieces most people wanted but never got like Faramir, Denethor, Eomer on horse, Eowyn bust, ROTK medallions, Argonath etc. they would have NO problems from fans whatsoever. There are plenty of pieces they could release to help complete the LOTR collection which would make a lot of people happy.

Maybe they could create some pieces for the release of LOTR on HD dvd. I think it would be cool if they released the trilogy in HD in one box with a new piece to go along with it. Then inside was a small ordering sheet for a few (or more :D) new LOTR pieces that you could preorder from Weta.

Do you think sending an email or letter to Weta letting them know of everyones interest would help? Not that they don't know but it couldn't hurt.

Lol, lots of straw clutching going on here! But I wouldnt think a letter or e-mail or two would hurt, I was considering writing to Richard Taylor! There's far more things they could release.
Eomer, Faramir, Denethor, Mouth of Sauron, Fountain Guard, Rohirrim soldier.....they could even do Gorbag and Shagrat, Merry in armour...
And environments too, which I'm gutted they didnt/couldnt do - Bag End, Barad Dur, Rivendell, Black gates, Cirith Ungol, Grey Havens...

Come on Weta!! Just by releasing those mentioned above you'd have enough to produce a new line!!
