Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

Yeah, I'm kind of over them.

I've got a nice, smallish Hot Toys collection now - original Pred, Dutch, both Arnie Terminators, Big Chap Alien, and Leonidas. Chris Reeves Superman is on the way. And that's probably enough for me. Along with the Sideshow Darth Vader that's pretty much my favourite sci-fi movies represented (I might sell Leonidas eventually - we'll see). Only thing that would really get me excited right now would be an Arnie Conan figure...

Still in the process of getting rid of my BD Pred 2 ex, Wolf ex, and extra Dutch and Pred... maybe I should lower my prices but we do have a baby on the way! :)

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I'm not over them, but I will be even more selective then what I've been.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I will not be over Hot Toys if they make Escape from New York Snake Plissken.

....just thought I'd throw that out there :)

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I love my Hot Toy figures.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I'm not stopping, but I'm slowing down. Skipping the new Batman 89 stuff. Trying to stick mostly to Marvel now and a few grails.

PO
Mark V
Superman (couldn't resist)
Captain America
Classic Predator (got everyone else from Predators, so I bit)

Will buy in an instant:
Rambo
Robocop
Iron Monger
BTTF
78 Halloween (come on, Hot Toys, do some horror!)

same here. I was all fro HT when i started collecting them, now I'm heading back to just SS Star Wars. Just going to be more selective than before and not buy every nice HT that comes out b/c well most HT figures do look nice

Well said...I bought so many different lines like T1, T2, TSalvation, Edward Scissorhands, Bruce Lee, Barney Ross, Prison Break...I love them all, but I didn't need them and I wish I had saved my money.

Great figures, but I need to limit for money and space. If money was no obstacle I would buy a bigger house for my Toys!

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

Love my HT 1/6 collection, but definitely have to try and stick to only a few lines since the prices are going up across the board. So hard to do when you're a fan of so many comic & film characters. But that's the way the cookie crumbles :huh

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

We are to blame. Look at every product thread here. People nitpick items to death about accuracty issues they think they know.
The best of anything costs money. You want it. It's going to cost you.
:lecture Yup, HT consistently releases amazing figures that no other company can touch qualitywise. As HT has grown, so have fans' expectations and cost is naturally going to increase. Especially as HT picks up new licenses...part of the heavy price on Nicholson Joker may be likeness fees.

The cost on all collectibles are going up pretty fast; take a look at the increase in Bowen statues and I wouldn't be surprised if part of Sideshow's decision to push the 1/5th scale for comiquettes was to cut back polystone costs.

Although I only buy 3-4 a year, I actually am liking HT more lately because of the great paint apps and their quality is consistent. My only complaint would be the sheer volume of releases, but outside of Resident Evil I never intended to be a HT completist so I don't feel the need to purchase every variant/repaint/ex nor do I need 10+ different Predators. While the Nicholson and Keaton Batman figures were amazing, I already have a TDK Ledger Joker and the Batman Begins Batman/Bruce Wayne on preorder so I figure I didn't need both. Iron Monger has me tempted, but if it is $400+ I will pass.

Buy what you like, but be selective- don't try to be a completist with too many lines- and don't let yourself be compelled to buy something just to have it.

I hear you...I have decided that I will be a completist with any Sideshow X-Men 1/4th and HT Resident Evil and that is it.

I will probably end up having a single representation of each HT Nolan Batman movie character as well.

Think about $475 for Batman and Joker and then another $799 for the Batmobile. Or just get a 50 inch LCD TV and watch the movie itself (with perfect likenesses of Keaton and Nicholson :lol) anytime you want in kickass HD glory.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I'd get the figures first, then the LCD. Chasing them down later will cost you much more whereas the LCD price will go down, and in 20 minutes a better one will be on the market anyway.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

in the end, I think HT is just hurting themselves, mostly because they are competing with themselves. SS prolly puts out more Marvel and SW then anything else, but they release a lot of of B and C class characters from those licenses. HT mostly releases big time characters and they release them so close together that it leaves people having to decide which ones to cancel so they can afford another one of their own products.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

^ I agree. I was just considering cancelling Reeves Superman because of the amount of stuff they are releasing. :(

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

just cancelled Shadow myself, to help lessen the wounds from the new DX Bat pieces.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

Anyone else finding a circle of the wanting being more fun than having.

I'll get super excited... order... wait... get it... be very happy for a week... move onto the next one

I'll still fiddle and admire them, but it seems the next big thing is the driving force :(

I do that sometimes, but worse than that is looking at my collection and thinking to myself that one figure would look so much better if HT would make a related character to stand next to them.

When I had the Watchmen figures they were missing a Rorscach, My Kevin Flynn is missing a Quorra or Clu, My Thor is missing Loki and Sif and so on. Iron Man isn't missing anything because they have made plenty for that line.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I do collect for myself, but mainly for my sons. I save and try to buy one for each of them and I have three boys!! Collecting for them is now becoming too expensive. I wish I could continue, but the market is becoming to popular now.

Re: Is anyone else just kind of "over" Hot Toys?

I wouldn't say I'm "over" Hot Toys as I still love their Predator line as well as a few others, but recently I do see myself narrowing down my purchases to only a certain few figures even though I would like most of them. But due to limited room and the increased prices, I'm forced to pick. Its only a matter of time before collectors will say enough is enough and move on to other items or for those who can afford it.
