Hi all,
just wanting to get opinions on people buying mulitple limited edition items. For example I've seen pics ofpeolpe with 3 or 4 SS Aliens dios, is this realy fair to others, isn't one enough? If you look after it your kit should last forever. It's taken me nearly a year to track down a SS Aliens dio, and it cost me 220 euros(about $320aus). And what about the SS ex Predator, I've seen people with 2 of them and only 300 were made. This may seem like I'm having a winge, and I am, but c'mon people be fair to your fellow collectors.

Cheers,

Cheers,

If you want to save money, don't wait or just don't buy collectibles at all. There are pricey pieces I want, but I'm not complaining. I just do without. There's always something else to buy anyway.

No, it's not fair. Like life. Live with it or don't live. Those are your options.

Sad, but true, fate favours the bold. If you had got in quick enough you'd have pretty much what ever you wanted.
The thing I find funny is the new people who come in to the collecting hobby and point out how 'unfair' it is that a figure/statue/model that came out six months/ten years ago is now too expensive to purchaes because of scarcity... that 'IS' what collecting is about.
Remember there will be things you buy in the next few months that will be future grails.
And for the record I only ever get single items. The only figures I have 2 of are the HT AvP alien and the Medicom Comic Spidey, but I don't have a problem with anyone owning as many of any collectible as they want... unless they are a flipper. But even flippers get their fingers burnt sometimes.

Hate to admit it but the man is right. Thus is life. In the end the person we're taught to care about the most is ourselves. Even the most generous person will have greedy thoughts.

Cheers,

i dun think that's a fair comment. some people just want to have more than one. its their money and their choice really.

some of the collectors here just like having 2 or even 3 of the same. its not like they are buying it to sell.

They're collecting what they like.

"The point is ladies and gentlemen that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of it’s forms - greed for life, for money, knowledge - has marked the upward surge of mankind and greed - you mark my words - will not only save (SIDESHOW) but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you."

Sorry but I had to do it.

dude you been stalking gekko :D

I've got 2 Original suit Batmans from the TDK line and they are much sought after now. I bought 2 because I wanted 2, not for resale. But I had no idea they'd be in high demand later on. However I don't think its incumbent on me to part with one of them. There were plenty available at the time and everyone else was insistent that the TDk suit figure was better but that was just 'new toy excitement' talking..don't think a new poll would yield that same result. Now everyone has realised the original is actually better and they're scrambling to get it.

If someone buys for the sake of reselling it later, that's not nice, but it's thier choice, and it's their money....that I'd call as a "bad greed", as they do it for money..

If someone buys for the sake of collecting, because they like it and want to have more then just one piece (and they have possibility), it's not greedy at all....Why would they have to keep in mind that there is limited number of those, and somebody else might want one, doesn't make much sense to me, you want it, you get it..

someone had to do it...

Like Toni said on top, I wouldn't consider what you're going greed. You're just a hardcore collector. :D

Yup, and America is a capitalistic society. Like it or not, greed is the foundation of our economy and is human nature.

If it wasn't for greed, why would companies like Sideshow, Hot Toys, and Bowen even take risk by investing capital into new product?

Why do you think the government bailed out all of the "too big to fail" companies that mostly were failing because of their excessive greed? Because the greed of these same companies add too much to the country's GDP/investment revenue to go away.

"Greed" is bad. The word itself implies that.
However, "greed" is human nature and a natural aspect of capitalism.

I'm sure that even people who only buy 1 of everything are looks upon as greedy because they have a lot of stuff.
It all boils down to the "haves" and the "have-nots".
Resources are scarce, and that's a big part of collecting. So, I'd advise you not to get into the hobby if you're not willing to deal with the idea that there are some things (grails) that you might never get, all the while some guy has 16 still in his basement somewhere.

My arguement would be that we all have "equal" chances at everything, no one to blame but yourself if you lose out, and even if you get it off ebay, as long as it is still within a few weeks of PO than prices are still pretty fair,
so you cant get mad for not getting it while the gettins good..

If you have ever back collected something that came out years ago, the price can be pretty steep. If I can buy something newer and sell it to offset the inflated cost of the older piece, I will do so with no remorse.

OH, BOY . . . here we go again.

:D

Here is my take on this . . .

I was in the right place at the right time and acquired multiples of figures (not exclusives) from a vendor for a discounted and fair price . . . far below the price what other collectors usually pay for. I acquired them for my own purposes . . . not necessarily and specifically for resale/trade, but for a rainy day (i.e. I'll do something with them one of these of days).

I let some folks know of my good fortune. Some of those folks either start asking me to hook them up (i.e. sell them one or two at the same price I acquired them for) . . . some of those folks use the label "hoarder" . . . some of those folks feel I should share in my good fortune.

So I ask . . . is this the path/route of "greed"?

Should we "share" because of our "greed"?

I am not one to acquire multiples of "exclusives" with Sideshow due to obvious constraints within the system. I am fine for now with acquiring an exclusive and a regular edition of such items I want from Sideshow.

I feel though that sometimes the whole "greed" premise gets very convoluted for a variety of reasons and it ends up simply being a situation of "those who have" and "those who don't have" resulting in a case of "sour grapes".

I acquire and collect for my own enjoyment and pleasure. IF I am inclined to share in my good fortune, then I'll do so with collectors I know . . . IF I am inclined. That's my prerogative. I don't collect to subsidize another collector's collection. This is the blunt truth. 1:6 collecting is nowhere near socialism last time I checked.
