Since the PF format now includes 1/4 scale fully sculpted pieces along with 1/4 mixed media pieces, is the 1/5 scale comiqutte line discontinued? Will all future fully sculpted statues (mainly in the marvel & dc line) now be released in 1/4 scale?

If someone from SSC could reply I would appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm gonna think this thread will be closed very soon... :monkey3

I hope not. It's civil so far and it's a legit question. All I'm hoping for is some clarity now that the PF line has been expanded to include fully sculpted statues. Changes of this nature will naturally create some questions. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a SSC rep answer some of those questions.

Yah I know. There's always these 2 guys here that likes to side track (derail) threads so D closes them.

Personally I don't believe the 1/5 scale format is dead. There is a market for them. I do think that the 1/4 scale format outsells the 1/5 by almost 3 to 1 (this is my thoughts and not SSC #s so don't quote me on it). If the sculpt is great, I will buy and scale doesn't matter but with the price of these going up, I'm buying less of the 1/5.

I also buy 1/5 scale statues. However, that is mainly because a fully sculpted 1/4 statue is a very rare bird. I have yet to see any 1/5 statue that wouldn't look better as a 1/4 scale piece. I really haven't ever seen a collector say I'll pass on a Com because it's 1/4 scale. However, we have seen numerous members here pass on a 1/5 scale Com.

I've been waiting a long time for a 1/4 fully sculpted Doom, Thor, Hulk and Cap. With the PF line now expanded to include fully sculpted 1/4 statues, I'm hoping to add those characters to my collection. It seems SSC is turning it's attention and focus to 1/4 scale pieces. I wonder what affect, if any, this will have on the 1/5 Com line.

The only thing SS confirmed was that every 1/4 piece will be under the "Premium Format" line. I'd hazard to guess that the 1/5 will still be produced since they've already started with the modern iterations of the X-Men & since it's obvious that there is a market for it.

The modern X-MEN Com lineup only needs about 3 more pieces. Cyke, Wolverine, and Emma. They may or may not toss in Kitty. After that there really is no reason to continue making Coms in 1/5 scale. The Avengers (minus Iron Man) haven't been released as Coms. Spidey, Venom, and Carnage are all 1/4 scale and it would be easy to forget about the 1/5 Hobgoblin and continue the Spidey line in 1/4 scale. It would also be very easy for SSC to focus on 1/4 fully sculpted pieces after the modern X-MEN lineup is finished.

But it still doesn't remove the fact that there is a market for it. The REGs may remain available for a certain amount of time but the EXs do sellout.

Would be good for some clarification, the ask sideshow statement has been interpreted differently.

I have collected a few 1/5 Coms and would collect more as i prefer the current costumes over the old costumes, as long as they are being made i'll buy them no matter if they are 1/5 or 1/4.

I really, really hope it is discontinued! :monkey3

Hate this attitude, I find this "i don't like it so please cancel it for those who do" outlook very selfish.

Went for a look at the Nightcrawler Comiquette and it's completely sold out on both editions, no waitlist even

Sometimes I look at that and it doesn't even look like the same line. The poses are all out of sorts, Beast reading a book, Nightcrawler brandishing a sword and Colossus bracing himself. To me they just don't go together very well posewise. It's like having a building with one gargoyle digging his nose.

Yeah, Sideshow truly has a talent for shooting themselves in the foot. & us collectors in the head. How could they allow themselves to practically kill a golden goose of a franchise is beyond me.:dunno:slap:cuckoo:

I think it's safe to say there is an even bigger market for 1/4 fully sculpted statues.

Excellent question.

Personally, I am a fan of 1:5 scale. It was the ideal size for Vampirella, and from what I've seen, Psylocke and the AH! girls as well.

That's because you wouldn't know a worthwhile question if it burst out of your chest.

True enough & Sideshow is catering greatly to that market but as I've stated earlier, there's still a market for it. I am a big supporter of the 1/4 scale pieces but I don't believe in removing something just because I'm not a fan of it. Just my 2 Canadian cents.

I LOVE fully sculpted pieces. For that reason my SSC collection is mostly made up of Coms. As we all know, most Coms are 1/5 scale. I also collect the AH! line as well. As a rule, I will not pass on a 1/5 Com if it's a character I like and the statue looks great.

That all being said, I wish that Coms were all a uniform scale. If they were ALL 1/5 scale and SSC said live with it, I would. The problem for me is when they release a 1/4 Com and I decide to pick it up. It just doesn't display well with my 1/5 pieces.

With SSC deciding to redefine the PF line to include 1/4 fully sculpted pieces, I really have to wonder about the fate of the 1/5 Com. It really seems SSC is starting to focus more on 1/4 scale pieces. If SSC is looking to phase out 1/5 statues, I am apprehensive about purchasing more of them. For example, the Spidey, Venom, and Carnage Coms are all 1/4 pieces. Rhino is rumored to also be a 1/4 piece as well. If SSC is trending towards a 1/4 scale fully sculpted Spidey line, I would be hesitant to pick up a 1/5 piece like the Hobgoblin Com. It would look out of place when they are displayed together.

If the trend truly leans more toward 1/4 scale pieces, it would only make sense for SSC to slowly wrap up whatever 1/5 lines are out there and start transitioning to 1/4 fully sculpted pieces. I can't wait to pick up some fully sculpted Avengers pieces. A Cap and Thor Com are at the top of my list of most wanted statues. It would drive me nuts if one of them were released as a 1/4 piece and the other as a 1/5 piece. In the end, I'm hoping for more 1/4 fully sculpted statues and a uniform scale in their Com/fully sculpted line.

I just see a pretty big problem with both scales existing simultaneously. Let's say they want to release a fully sculpted Cap in 1/4 scale. Would SSC then follow that up with a 1/5 Thor? What scale would the rest of the Avengers be if they start a fully sculpted line for those characters? The Spidey line is a perfect example of this. We have a 1/4 fully sculpted Spidey, Venom, and Carnage. Rhino is rumored to be 1/4 scale as well. Why have a 1/5 Hobgoblin Com? What will be the scale of future Coms in this grouping? Will we get a 1/5 Doc Ock and a 1/4 Sandman? Will SSC release a classic 1/5 Spidey so he can be paired up with other 1/5 pieces like Hobgoblin?

Obviously any Com line that was already started in 1/5 scale should continue on and finish in the same scale. As much as people would love a 1/4 modern Cyclops, it would be a big problem for any collector who has already picked up the other 1/5 modern X-MEN Coms.

In a nutshell, I fully support what seems to be a trend towards 1/4 fully sculpted statues. I can't see how this trend won't have a huge impact on the 1/5 Com. It looks like it may become obsolete.

I agree I was really looking forward to a Hobgoblin com to match the scale of Spidey com/PF. Unfortunately, I didn't pick him up mainly because he was 1/5 scale and would look tiny next to Spidey. I hope Rhino is 1/4 scale then I'll pick him up to complement Spidey, if not I may have to pass.
