I have recently been selling things so I had a bit of extra money finally....but my mechanic just called and said my car needs new brakes, including rotors and everything. Well, there goes $500 or more dollars.

Is this how life is for you guys? I even told my girlfriend the other day that I need to do something with the extra money or something is going to come up and take it away from me. :emperor

Little known fact: appliances, cars, houses ALWAYS can smell when you've finally got just a little bit of extra money. Then they talk to each other at night when we're sleeping and decide which of them gets to break down or go on the fritz just so you won't be able to save any $$. S'truth.

Imagine if you had kids!!!! :lol

Yes, this is how life goes. My ex was a total SLOB and she, her kid and her dog nearly trashed my townhouse. I am a net freak in the worst way. After I kicked them out I spent a lot of time and effort fixing the place up again...new floors, new carpet, painting...all that kind of stuff.

Well, after that I was nearly DONE and what happened? Plumbing leak in my living room ceiling. Now I have a big old ugly hole I need to get fixed. Then coming down the steps one night my foot slipped so I grabbed the rail and fell into it ( the rail ) pushing the two pegs that attach to the wall through the drywall.....gotta get that fixed too.

It's always SOMETHING.

Tis the sad truth unfortunately. :monkey2

I don't know how people with kids manage- they get unexpected bills all the time.

It's never much fun to put money into things like cars or buying a new washer because they are just necessary things that one must have- not fun exciting things.

True enough. I have a 20 y/o clothes dryer. It still works fine, but I don't really trust it....I bought a new $300 authentic Capitals, Ovechkin jersey instead

Yep, love it when auto/home repair/medical bills come up..but I guess that's how it goes. I guess it's good you have the money though, it would suck to need to have all this done and not have the money.

I hope they're doing more to your car though because it shouldn't be $500 for rotors/brake pads....unless you have a Porshe. :)

I have to go down there and get the whole scoop. I have an Acura but I know the mechanic and he has been a good friend for a long time....with that said I hope he doesn't try to rip me off. :lol:lol:rotfl

Had to replace our water heater this year. Then my washer/dryer and refrigerator...all were 30 years old and they went out at the same time :monkey2 This was AFTER I thought I had a few extra $$, after finally paying off our kids' college expenses, and spent it on a new living room set. The first set was "early marriage, kid-proof" and very cheap. Praying that our heater won't go belly-up since we're having to seriously look at re-siding our 25-year old house next year. The original siding (love those spec homes!) is suffering from wood rot. And then, I have to be on the lookout for my 12-year old car falling apart. It is on the verge of becoming uneconomic to fix. Am hoping it will last me another year. :(

It's ALWAYS something. I became eligible to retire this past May but at this rate, am gonna have to work until .... well......forever.

well the Acura's could be pricey too, depending on the year. yikes!

Yea, it's all about the Ford Focus, voted the gayest car in the country. I sadly have it, but for 2 years, haven't spent more than $400 on it all together. I guess the lack of funds going into it is worth the gayest car crown.

This summer we had our sump pump go out ($3000) the dog had to have ACL surgery ($1800) and the dog and both cats had to have dental work ($2700) all in the span of 2 months.

in the past 6 months Ive:
- bought a house
- installed 2 new garage doors
- put in new hardwood floors / carpet
- installed a new heating/air system
- spent easily $1000+ in paint & wood.
- ..... and I have a lil one on the way....

needless to say, Im broke and will be selling some items I dont want to sell very shortly...

i experience this continuously. i finally get a little spending money and i have to spend it on something i already own that needs replacing or something that needs to be repaired. a cruel joke by the monetary gods. this past month my car broke down again, my tv went on the fritz, and my computer monitor smelled like it was burning up.

I had an unexpected dental bill arrive this month. My insurance didn't cover even 1/2 that I thought it would. :monkey2:monkey2 Now I have about $300 to last me until the end of the month. Being poor sucks.....but I still haven't gotten to the point where I'm going to sell my statues.....yet. That would break my heart.:monkey2

I will admit the thought of selling your statues is tough but once you let go of the first big one, it's all downhill from there. You'll see if you ever need to. the whole experience is kind of like taking a breath after being under water for a long time. :)
