Momemtum has everything to do with it. I have 1 Joe on pre-order, Major Bludd (which I just cancelled and re-ordered to take advantage of the $20 coupon code). That's it. Baroness is still MIA. By the time the pre-order goes up she won't ship until next year and that goes for any other Joe preorders we get at Comic Con. One Joe in 2013=FAIL.

exactly...the biggest fail is the 9 months waiting time to have the dang things in hand.

Major Bludd should be in our hands already

/shrug

Well.. if you're THAT ADD that you can't stand to wait a while for a good product... i don't know what to tell you.

Then again, I'm a fairly patient person, so perhaps it differs.

Curiosity ( and no, i'm not trying to be insulting) Teemu, how old are you, or if you prefer to be vague about it, what age range do you fall into ( teens, 20's 30's, 40's etc)

I could see roadblock as well/instead of Bazooka. he also would be an extremely simple design.

Hope you like counting the number of new gray hairs between releases. :D

some would find it absurd a grown man in his very late 30's collecting what some would call dolls...I am an 80's guy, grew up in a decade like no other

Coo, so same age as I am, more or less. 82 here.

Nah, I just don't feel the need to "sing Veruka's song" constantly. Not that you are, but there are some people in this hobby for whom it seems to be a theme song.
Take my time, Save up, pay for them as they come out, and not worry about them crapping out figures with lousy QC, floppy joints, bad paint, and accessories that don't fit the figure properly becuase of being rushed out. if taking longer leads to them producing a better product, then I say go for it. Their new ordering system helps them keep from selling out too fast, and keeps them from having EXTREMELY high numbers of left over stock on hand.

we're only into april of 2013. they've got 8 more months to release more figures. If they bring out more than just Bludd this year, AWESOME. if not, I'm a fan of the subject matter, and this line is the BEST product being made for this subject matter. I'll support it as they make product.

Now, i CAN see how bandwagon fans can loose interest if they're not constantly getting something new and shiney in the mail, but you guy's aren't one of those, right? :wink1:

Just cancelled Major Blood. This is what I left as my reason.
Too long between GI Joe releases. Do not want to continue with line if Sideshow does not show increased committment.

If that makes me a bandwagon fan so be it. Its pretty hard to stay interested in a company or line that doesn't want to release product. The real reason they don't want to release items is they believe they can generate the same amount of revenue by delaying releases but increasing prices. Sure, their quality might be improving, but in the end I wouldn't really enjoy knowing I spent $200 on a single toy no matter how great it was.

I would love a Bazooka or Zap in my lineup. Need someone with some hardcore anti-armor capability.

need bazooka, blowtorch, airtight, scarlett, shipwreck, roadblock, spirit, mutt, grunt, and snow job to give the team some fantasy. so far all we have is more military characters.

Nah, bandwagoning would be dropping it, and selling off all the other ones you already have in hand at a loss just to be rid of them becuase you no longer have any interest in the line, so you can use all that money to buy 1 or two die-cast iron mans ;)

But do you really believe that sideshow is " Releasing less of them at a higher price to make more profit?"

You can't seriously tell me that from a production aspect, these figures cost more than 20-30$ a pop to produce and even THEN, I'm skeptical that it's that much. ( and yes, that 20-30$ includes what they pay their artists/sculptors/prototype painters, etc).

so asuming that.

lets round up to 180$ per figure. and lets say 3 figures a year.

so that's a total of 540$ per year for the joe line.

at 30$ apiece ( asuming high) that's 90$ cost to make, so then 450$ profit

With an average edition size of 3000 per figure ( And that's regular version + exclusive version)

that's 450$ profit, times 3000 units, that's 1350000$
Now, we do not know the specifics of the hasbro liscensing deal. but let's just assume it's 10% of the profit margin for the sake of this example.
That leaves 1215000$ as the prifit sideshow makes.

Verses, lets see, 6 releases a year, at 100$ apiece.

420$ profit, times 3000, that's 1260000,
minus the liscensing fee, that's 1134000.

That's a whopping.... 81000 dollar difference.

To a major company, that's NOT a lot of money. it's not even 100k.

would they be happy that it's generating them an additional 80k?
I'm sure they are. They're a buisness. I'd be shocked if they weren't.
But at the same time, I can't see an increase of 80K being the Sole motivator.

Not only that, butr this also relies on a 100% sell-through of every figure released.
I'd like to point out that Regular edition Zartan is still avalible.

HOWEVER, I do think you're on the correct track. Sideshow only has so many employee's. this means they can only make so many products a year. some of them are 1/6th scale figures. But only a limited number of TOTAL figures can be made a year, regardless of the line to which they belong ( star wars, Walking dead, Joe, DC, etc)
By spreading all those figures across those separate lines, they're able to reach a broader customer base, and then Actualy Sell MORE figures over all, by diversifying their avalible resources.

And THAT'S how they're making more money.

spirit, scrap iron, low light, wild bill, tunnel rat, cobra eel, all the dreadnoxs, tomax and xamot

I couldn't cancel Bludd if he was the last figure in the line.He is too cool and essential.

we have yet to get a figure released in 2013 and 1st quarter came and went with not a peep about upcoming stuff. They finally sneak CC which we know he'll show up at SDCC.

we are suppose to get 3 new figures (plus Baroness) and they are supposedly ready to go except Baroness,so show something already!!! Even then using the hype of the movie that went by and still nothing new to pre-order

I think the longer the delays of this line goes on,the more people are not going to collect it,along with the higher prices every year.Higher prices are not done.

I will say, my cancellation (most likely) isn't permanent, I just see no need to show SSC any sort of "commitment" when they can't do the same. If the line proceeds (under reasonable prices) I'll purchase Blood when he is released.

:lol

This thing way too cool to give up like that. I didn't drop any money on him cause I don't have any means to pay for it so I'm waiting for a deal.

Agreed, momentum is key, there are NO new collectors jumping on this line and they are losing the die hards with the slow pace

No new collectors jumping on this line?

Umm... somehow i doubt that.

Clarification.

GI Joe is in the spotlight right now. The movie is making a great deal of cash, and projected to hit the 400mil mark.

That's GOING to create some buzz, regardless if the movie is good or bad. and that IS going to eventually bring some people into the line.

Additionally, every few weeks on the hiss tank, someone asks " are the sideshow joes any good?" and you get some no's, but a few people say " OMG I got one and it's AMAZING in hand" so they buy one, and then go back to the thread to say how awesome it is, and how they're tracking down the ones they missed and etc.

and we even get new members here and there on this board asking about the joes as they come out with a particular person's favorite.

it's very easy to forget that this board only makes up a VERY SMALL percentage of the 1/6th community.

So why do none of these figures sell out? EX SE is still available and on GC. If he doesnt sell out no one will, hell Zartan still available over a year later

Just cuz the movie out means squat, younger people and collectors are getting into the lines of their times and this isnt one of them or SSC would be milking this cow for all its worth

$200 for Snake-Eyes and Timber is outrageous. I bought all the parts for much much less.

That's actualy a good point you make about things not selling out. I'll wager it's another reason why they've reduced the number coming out at once, but not for the reasons you're thinking. it has to do with warehouse space. You see, They don't sell out because of a shift in how sideshow does business. this was discussed by silent surfer ( a former sideshow prototype painter) elsewhere on the board.

If you notice, Every time a product goes up for preorder now, the edition sizes are ALWAYS listed as TBD.

this is because, for the most part, EVERY sideshow product now uses a variant of the " Inclusive" system. they take preorders for several weeks with no edition size in site, until the pre-orders start to slow down. Once this happens, they round up to the nearest 250, or 500. Giving us edition sizes of 1000, 1500, 1250, 1750, 2000, etc.

This allows them to make sure everyone who wants one can get one, and gives them a few extra to sell later to late-comers, enabling them to cash in on what otherwise would have been after-market ( Ebay) sales. Like stormshadow, and firefly commanding 250-300$ ( or more) on ebay.

Some completed ebay listings

https://www.ebay.com/itm/GI-JOE-SID...9236?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item3a7ddc6624

if there were no new fans, they wouldn't sell for that.

The days of the 20-30 minute sell out of sideshow 1/6th figures is long dead. the new business model prevents that from happening, while allowing sideshow to maximize it's profits at the same time.

and having less out at once, means they're ok with some of it sitting in the warehouse longer until it sells. and BELIEVE me, they all will sell out eventually.

as for "younger people /younger collectors" Most of them don't have money to bun, we're in the middle of a global economic ****storm. That IS gonna take it's toll on things.
