Only time I pre-order a game is from places like Amazon, who offer Credit toward future games if you pre-order with them. At least then you are not getting totally Screwed when the price goes down later.

I preorder just to make sure I'm able to pick it up on day 1. And having worked at a Gamestop during my college years, I know how important it is to the employees there to keep their pre-order numbers up, so I toss them a few whenever I can.

It's also nice when a company does something like offering a "limited" version of a game for preordering early (e.g., Dragon Age 2)

I only do if they offer $20 credit on another game. They did when I preordered Other M.

Yeah i'm done with pre-orders too , i bought the Halo reach legendary edition , being told it was number and limited.
This was a lie , also after paying £100.00 on release day they are now £50.00 new.
Also the same with the crappy UK gold gears of war Lancer they were supposed to be very limited ,so i bought 2 , one to paint and the other to keep , they are not limited either.
Also pre-ordered the Killzone 3 Hellgast edition , and OMG! the helmet is terrible so i got a refund.

Preordering or not doesn't have anything to do with whether you are going to get hosed if a game is going to lower in price or not.

If you want to buy and play a game you have no way of knowing if it will lower in price or stay the same price for a long time. You are just cheating yourself out of playing it.

I didn't preorder the Halo Reach Legendary edition. I went out and bought it at Best Buy for full price. I could have waited for a price decline but it may never have come. One did eventually but it is not so for all games.

The point is you don't have to preorder to get hosed with a new game going down in price. You could wait three months after a games release for it to go down and when it doesn't you buy it only to have it lower a week after you finally cave on it. There are no guarantees.

Yeah same here, and they actually do that alot, I got Fable 3. COD Black OPS, Bulletstorm, Need for Speed HP and a few others...it's great when you are like me an purchase alot of games. Especially since you can use that credit on another game that also has a credit for pre-order which you still get as well, so it's a Win Win.

I don't see the point in preordering a video game. Especially overpaying for some special edtion that has some trinket to set on a shelf. Pretty much every game can be had for half price or less within a year.

Less time than that now-a-days.

Do you guys over in the UK have to pay full price for your pre-orders? It seems that your issue stems more from needing to buying the games first-day rather than waiting.

Pre-orders here in the UK, I think, are comparable to the US; £35.00 (average UK pre-order price on a regular edition game) works out at about $64.00 US.

I just canceled my Duke Nukem BOS pre-order. Looks like they are going to have 10's of thousands of them so I can pick one up cheap later. Most of the time I pre-order just because I don't want to have to go to the store and get it. Its nice to just have it show up on my porch.
