That looks great, ajp4mgs. Nice repaint and setup.
Thanks; I appreciate that a great deal!
I'm anxious to see more in-hand pics of the new Jabba, and hope you post some when yours arrives. And yeah, adding characters around Jabba is one of the most rewarding things about having a throne setup. It works to enhance the presentation value of both Jabba and the other characters/creatures.
Here's a kinda crappy pic of where my Jabba is right now; resting atop two Detolf cabinets. I need to make at least a couple of custom characters to add to the display if Sideshow doesn't solicit any soon. Also going to make some pillows (something you'll be fortunate to get plenty of with the new set), and maybe a few other set pieces. One of the cool things about having a throne, once you find a spot for it, is trying out different ways to lay everything out.

Cool setup. Looks great!!

The set-up here is cool too!
For those looking to keep their old jabbas, I thought I'd post a few pics of the "fudged Jabba height" I've mentioned a few times. The figure is under-height by a bit (especially compared to the new better scaled Jabba, which I'm currently removing the center support from a Besta in order to accomodate - Jabba gets needs a "double-wide") but it can be tweaked easily.
Basically all I did was take something flat (preferably oval, maybe 7" by 5") and place it under the dark brown rug - how thick is preference - in the pics below it's just a touch over 1/4" but looks fine up to 3/8". The idea is you then smooth/futz the rug a bit so it tapers gently from the raised rug center. That way the raised area isn't noticeable vs the dias level. Pull the rug as far forward as you can too so you have more to futz (which I didn't do for these pics.)
Youz peeps have too much free time on your hands.
I'm also considering popping out the "hatch" under the Jabba figure and looking at ways to push something into the hollow tail to make it look vertically taller. The tail needs some thickening, mostly in the area halfway between the end and where it meets the body.
In your reference pics, Jabba's hand doesn't look too much larger than 3PO's hand.
That last comp pic shows the only real off part on the original sculpt with the belly, the curve ends to flush to the throne where you see curve going under him on the puppet, I think this leads to the perception of his belly being too big. You can see in that shot, overall proportions are on point, just a slightl shape discrepancy.
I see the belly sticking out quite a lot - even if you chose an angle that makes it hard to see

Try with this one
That reference photo is impossible to match up because Jabba's mouth is open (dropping his chin quite a bit), his eyes are opened wide, and his head is turned more toward Bib than the static pose of the figure will allow. The entire structure of his face also changes when the puppeteers are creating a more exaggerated expression like that.
This old Sideshow Jabba has a neutral and closed-mouth expression, so the only fair way to do photo matches would be to use reference pics with the same expression (as I did on the previous page). But I still gave this one a shot anyway because I enjoy doing this stuff too much.
**Keep in mind that my Jabba has a small wooden block underneath the back to tilt the figure forward and make it seem taller.**

Jabba's tail is grossly misrepresented in my photo because I had to turn the whole figure in order to match the torso angle, and I obviously can't curl the tail inward the way it is in the movie. Also, Jabba's head would need to be able to turn more toward Bib (to the point where more of the left side of his face would be out of view, and more back of the head would be showing). But all things considered, I think my photo comes close enough for a decent general comparison.
Do you still see a problem with the belly being too big, slikkerias? I'm really curious to know what some people are finding so lacking in the sculpt. By no means am I suggesting that this old Jabba figure is perfect. In fact, it's almost an inch too short (a seemingly unsolvable problem). As everyone knows, the stock paint job was pretty bad too. And there are still some other nitpicks I have as well. But I think the notion that the sculpt likeness is lacking in any major way would be overstating things too much. I still think it's a fantastic likeness, but I love reading other opinions on it.
Well, I think you do some fine work. But I have this old Jabba and I’m not as pleased as you are. The paint does hurt it a lot though.
The tummy doesn’t bother me much, but now that we’re nitpicking I do believe that it’s sticking out significantly more than it should compared to the head.
