Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Skyfall was a weak, convoluted, lazy story. It broke canon, continuity and character. It also asked the audience to suspend disbelief beyond a reasonable measure - for acts which were predominantly senseless on the part of the people involved.

All wrapped up it was still an entertaining movie, just not as good as the other two new Bonds. Especially given all the hype ahead of it, it was a major let-down. But hey, the last Star Trek was also a major let down so it had good company.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I totally agree with everything above. Even regarding Star Trek.

But ill also say that I didn't hate Skyfall, and that I still think it was better than Quantum.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Skyfall was pretty clear and above Quantum in every way, and I would even say is a much more stylish action film than Casino Royale, i just think it was quite poorly written in comparison. It lacked the intelligence I hoped it would have when I heard Mendes was on board. Overall though still a top 10 bond film.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Except when they miss the mark.... every single time. People who hate Skyfall baffle me. ****ing baffle me.
I agree I can't believe people do not like Skyfall.I really hate stuff like CinemaSins because you can pick apart any great movie if you wanted too.I have alot of favorite movies that I could nitpick but I don't,why?,because to me the good outweighs the bad.
And another two views.
What do you think?

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Liking or disliking movies is as much down to what you like about any movie and not just a Bond movie.

If you read The Essential James Bond, even they don't say that all the movies are amazing.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Normally, people who hate Skyfall prefer Roger Moore's run. And that says it all, really.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

That's an odd statement! How did you deduct that? I like Skyfall a lot, I don't hate Moores run, I actually don't hate any run at all though ill clearly say that I'm not a big fan of Dalton or Lazenby as Bond but I like OHMSS and lisence to Kill has strong points.

I think that every single Bomd run has awesome films in it and pure crap films. Excluding some here's a few examples:

Connery:
Awesome = Goldfinger, Dr. No
Pure crap = Diamomds are forever

Moore:
Awesome = Live and Let Die, Spy who Loved Me
Pure crap = Moonraker, a View to a Kill

Dalton:

Awesome (can't say awesome, passable) : Lisence to Kill
Pure crap: living Daylights

Brosnan:

Awesome: Goldeneye
Pure Crap: Die another Day, The World is not Enough

Craig:

Awesome: casino royale
Pure crap (not pure crap but bad) : Quantum of Solace

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I like the Moore films too. But if you prefer them over anything else...well....damn then.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Celtic, get over it and yourself, there's no need to deride others simply because they can see Skyfall for what it is, very poorly written. A movie is the whole package, much more than simply its production value. While I realize that some people have no value for story and plot, they play an integral role in every movie, and that's where Skyfall fails miserably. Skyfall and one's opinion of it has nothing to do with Roger Moore and/or his movies. I think Craig is the best bond, just slightly above Connery (can you believe it?), Dalton comes next. I won't list the others, except to say that Brosnan is dead last, even though I very much like him as an actor.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

Yeah, the movie is perfectly fine.....

Considering the movie gave perhaps one of the deepest relationships presented in ANY Bond film so far, and some of the most interesting character moments in the entire series....yeah, gonna have to say no to your opinion there. Still baffles me, and it always will.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

With all the continuing lively discussion ranging from the Bond films to the Bond figures . . . I find myself re-thinking my evaluation & rating of the Bond films and the actors to portray Bond over the years.

As it stands now . . . here is my current preference

Connery > Craig > Brosnan > Moore > Dalton =/> Lazenby

In terms of the "weakest" Bond films encompassing all of the actors . . .

Diamonds Are Forever, Her Majesty's Secret Service, Moonraker, Never Say Never Say Again, Octopussy, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights, License To Kill, Die Another Day, Quantum of Solace

For me . . . it's hard to say a Bond film is absolute crap . . . just weak in a variety of areas from story, presentation, acting, etc., but it's still a Bond film.

I don't really see any deep character relations there. Certainly not more than Bond with his s/o's in OHMSS or Casino Royale.

It characterized Dench's M a bit but not too much really. Just because they killed her off didn't bring deapth to her and it just messed up an already illogical continuity.

The thing that was the worst about Skyfall for me was the cheap nods and winks to the audience. OK. Aston Martin... I get it and yes it still makes no sense.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I can suspend disbelief and take for granted that a "man" can fly. But I can't be expect to believe that any agent, bond-calibre or not would

1. Go to a desolate non-defensible location expecting a bad guy to follow - ALONE *and* bring the target.

2. Without taking any weapons with them.

Seriously, just bloody stupid and lazy writing. No production and direction attachments can make up for a bad story/script.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I like Skyfall... and I didn't find the plot or writing particularly offensive. I liked the character exploration and I enjoyed the characters themselves; there were plot elements from other Bond movies that I rather liked. It was more linear than most of the pre-Brosnan films, and more coherent than pretty much anything Moore was in. I had no problem with Silva since he was an obvious nod to previous Bond villains. Hitting Bond with a train isn't that much dumber than Goldfinger wanting to laser Bond in half from the ***** up, or any of the shark pits or strange henchmen of yesteryear. The shower scene was a little weird, but Severine's past doesn't preclude her from consensual relations... I'd rather have that any day than Connery casually threatening a nurse's job if she didn't put out in Thunderball. Anyway, I enjoyed Skyfall and I'm looking forward to the next film.

My Bond ranking is Craig > Dalton > Connery > Brosnan > Lazenby > Moore.

Each Bond has some good and some bad. My favorite movie (and book) is Casino Royale, though I also really like Dr. No, a License to Kill, and Goldeneye ... bottom of the list is OHMSS (I hate OHMSS), Moonraker, and Octopussy. Only one I haven't seen is Never Say Never Again, but it's on Amazon Prime right now, so I'll probably watch it soonish.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

No, not keen at all, he's fallen into his style again. You can tell Spenser sculpts as much as you can Snyderman ones. They have too much of a uniform style.

They have to concentrate on each head individually and not fall into old habits. The Brosnan sculpt Spenser has done is a clear example of when it comes together the way it should.

Couldn't disagree more. Every sculptor on here has a style and tells that set their work apart. Eric Sosa for example exaggerates the features on his sculpts making his work look like he uses Mad magazine drawings for reference instead of photographs. Trevor Grove has a habit of making the eyes too big and his hair sculpts look like Kmart mannequins. Spenser has a style that newer collectors seem to feel is too old school. The only issue I have with his work is his ears are too generic. When it comes to capturing a likeness I would rank Spenser above a lot of other sculptors here. His work may be rough by most standards, but there is no denying that he can target the aspects of a person's features that make them unique and translate it to the sculpt. The Plash Gordon he sculpted several years ago has a better likeness to Sam Jones than the current offering by WGP. His Wrath of Khan Spock is also a much better likeness than the Natchan version. As I have said in many threads my taste and priorities in collecting are the head sculpt MUST look like the subject. Many newer collectors seem willing to accept out of scale skin texture and tricked out paintjobs as an acceptable substitute for a sculpt not being a great likeness. If that is what they like that is awesome. Personally I find those heads/figures unacceptable in spite of their popularity on this board. Bottom line is there are plenty of sculptors currently offering custom heads. I'm not sure the community can support the dearth of products that continue to be offered. I say enjoy the variety while it is still available.

There was supposed to be weapons there. Did you miss the scene where Bond was told everything in the house was sold?

That's why he went there. It was a remote location, had weapons, and was fortified.

Plans didn't work out.

Watch it again. And take notes this time.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I'd prefer if the discussions concentrated on action figures but for someone to say they disagree with a scenario involving Bond facing insurmountable odds while being vastly outgunned is pretty much saying they disagree with the entire concept of Bond....isn't it?:dunno
