That 'An Agent' is deceptive, I've seen another Craig advertised as that and the sculpt was completely different, more like the Natchan one as I recall. Whatever, it's another one, but it's way off being the best.

Hmmm...best Brosnan film...that's a tough one.

Tommorrow Never Dies had the coolest premise, of manipulating world events to sell stories with "exclusives," which, although antiquated now, was really interesting then. But so much of it was just so forgettable. I think Die Another Day gets too much crap, I think the villain and the genetic hospital were interesting plot points, but the invisible car and crappy CGI screw it up. World is Not Enough was meh all the way around in my book. GoldenEye is the easy answer, but I think it's true personally. Definitely the most memorable, even with the WORST Bond music EVER.

Die Another Day has got to be the worst, but it had it's moments. Most of Brosnan's films just feel forgettable and tired, even though each one had at least something going for it.

Villian has got to be Sean Bean's 006. Just love him in everything I've seen him in. The rest were sadly pretty forgettable.

Henchman (sensing a theme here) is totally Boris and his misogynistic programming. Zao LOOKED cool. The torture doctor in Tomorrow was interesting, but only showed in one scene, and the other main henchman was completely forgettable.

The girl? Easy. Teri Hatcher...that scene where she drops the dress still makes me pause and rewind.

Sometimes I think that the producers forget that Bond is Bond and they try and compete with other movies around at the time. The Moore era was caper movies, though Dalton I felt went some way back to the roots. Brosnan's movies tried too hard to compete with Hollywood, and couldn't for the simple reason that they were Bond and never needed to. The Craig movies, Skyfall excluded, are a step in the right direction, but, they just can't compare to the Connery era. Also, many deride Lazenby, but I've always had a soft spot for OHMSS, he had big shoes to fill and I thought he did well. By the time Sean came back he was looking a little bit past it if I'm honest.

Best is goldeneye but I have a real soft spot for tomorrow never dies.. Villain is 006. Best girl goldeneye the russian. Worst film die another day. I don't think i've seen it all the way through.

Interesting that Tomorrow Never Dies is getting so much love. Other than the score -- which is the best modern score I've heard -- I always felt TND to be the worst of the Brosnan Bonds. Elliot Carver was just horrible as a villain, and the entirely confusing plot hinged on the fact that he wanted "good copy" for his newspapers? Well, at least its clear he's crazy. Once again, for a henchman, producers fell upon the muscular blond Aryan to fill forgettable shoes (Hans, Kriegler, Necros). When in doubt, grab a big blond guy for a thug. And Teri Hatcher is a beautiful woman but she's not a Bond girl. Neither is Denise Richards for that matter or Halle Berry or Madonna.

It does seem like Xenia and Trevelyan were probably the best of the baddie bunch for Brosnan. Although I do like Zao from a visual standpoint. Even though he seemed like a Star Wars villain, I enjoyed him more than anything else.

Picking a Bond Girl from that era is difficult. I liked Pike and thought that Russian Girl in Goldeneye (forgot her name) was very sexy and in keeping with traditional Bond girls. But there's something about Sophie Marceau. I think she reminds me of an ex girlfriend or something because I find her endlessly sexy. That attraction aside, I don't think I'd mark her as Best Brosnan Bond Babe though. I guess I'd go Goldeneye Girl.

They go in order:

1. Goldeneye
2. Tomorrow Never Dies (not that good though better than the others and at least they were trying....)
3. The World is Not Enough (feels more like a Bond video game full of video gamey set pieces than a movie)
4. Die another Day (I think the first half with Bond's capture and torture is amazing, especially the credit sequence ...then they just forget about it and make the worst Bond movie since Moonraker)

Marceau is a very close second for me. Stunningly beautiful and a French accent, that's a magic combination.

TWINE did start in London, with that little green boat that had no windshield yet went underwater -- never understood that. But it was at least unique. The other three I get mixed up because they are so similar. DAD did open in the NK's DMZ, but it felt just like the other two Russian set pieces (just with Koreans) and still ended in a "flying machine" of sorts and a "big drop" finale.

You'd think they learned from Casino Royale that a nice simple opening can be just as effective -- some times more so -- than a gigantic action sequence that blurs with all the others.


Anyway, I was trying to enjoy the Brosnan era since I've never really just taken his films in with the same enthusiasm as I do Connery and Craig and, yes, Moore. But I am willing to try. All I really remember is liking crazy Xenia Onatopp and ghostly Zao. Trevelyan was OK -- great story idea for the character, but a rather dull villain really on screen. But so were Carver and Graves and Renard. I remember having such hope for Renard -- a man with a bullet in his brain who can feel no pain. Awesome start. Then they cast that tiny, scrawny actor to play the part and all threat evaporated. So, by default, Trevelyan looks pretty good in hindsight.

This harks back to From Russia With Love and Robert Shaw's Major Grant. To me he was the only guy ever to pose a real threat to Sean Connery.

Yeah, Robert Shaw was so serious he was scary. The films became much more flippant with Goldfinger. It's too bad good actors don't want to play henchmen.

This harks back to From Russia With Love and Robert Shaw's Major Grant. To me he was the only guy ever to pose a real threat to Sean Connery.

From Russia With Love was such a unique movie in how they handled Grant. He was just a henchman, really, but was the big baddie of the piece as well. Just another agent executing a simple mission, not some big, bombastic guy with a major plan to take over the world and an unlimited supply of money. That's honestly the biggest cliche in Bond history.

I REALLY like when they try to get away from that in some way...part of why I love Licence to Kill as well.
