Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I remember hearing that Henry Cavill was very interested in the part. I can certainly see him being successful in the roll.

I really liked Cavill in MOS, but just found him completely dull and uninteresting in Man from Uncle (which is probably a closer approximation to what he might be like in a Bond movie).

Hiddleston would probably have the same problem Brosnan did initially, which is that he just doesn't seem nearly dangerous or threatening enough.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I always thought that Lewis Collins would have made a cracking Bond, he was a lady killer and he had the hard edge that Fleming's Bond was supposed to have had. He apparently auditioned during the 80's but was turned down for being too aggressive. Well, when you consider how aggressive Roger Moore was, that wouldn't have taken much! Craig's Bond was the ex SAS guy turned secret agent, which is exactly what Lewis Collins would have been. Watch Who Dares Wins and imagine....

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

does anyone know if there are any updates on that Blackbox Toys Craig that was announced a few months ago?

Lair Of The Octopus have it down has an August release.

As for past potential Bonds, I would have liked to have seen Richard Johnson, David Warbeck and James Purefoy as Bond (60's, 70's/80's and 00's).

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I watched Spectre for the first time earlier, and, in light of what we now know, the whole thing seemed like a big swansong for Daniel Craig as Bond. It wrapped up everything from Casino Royale onwards and he drove off leaving it all behind. Even the theme was prophetic when you think about it.

Whoever does take up the mantle I think we'll be looking at a different kind of movie and a different kind of Bond

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I've had enough of the media shoving Elba down our throats as a potential Bond. At the risk of opening a can of worms, this is just my opinion, but I am not interested in seeing Bond played by a black actor. Even with the relentless pressure from the press, I can't see it happening. Elba is 43 now, he'll be 45 during filming of his first Bond, then 48 during the second, 51 during the third etc...

Aidan Turner is my choice, in And Then There Were None, he displayed all the qualities of a cracking Bond. Especially that 'bit of a bastard but not unlikable' quality from the books.

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I've got to say, I do see where you're coming from with Aidan, that pic above screams Bond to me. It probably isn't a vodka Martini in that glass, but, you could well imagine it being one. He looks like a cross between Brosnan and Connery there. Via Poldark he'd certainly get the female vote.

Yeah, Babs, stop looking, he could be the man

Re: OFFICIAL JAMES BOND THREAD

I'm with you that Idris Elba has been shoved down our throats. I still think he would be great and think he is a great age. As for not wanting a black actor cast as Bond, I know where you are coming from - not wanting a black actor has nothing to do with being racist even though the bandwagon would be to jump on it and accuse that of being racist. Effin annoying really. What I'm not really interested in this new thing - a "Jane" Bond...

I'm sure whoever they cast will be great. I for one would love for a mix of Connery and Craig, that is, suave (Connery) AND totally badass (Craig). We haven't really seen that yet.

True he is getting old but black don't crack. Anyway Elba gets on my **** with those Sky adverts he does.

I don't think you need to be a great actor to play Bond, Lazenby & Moore being a case in point, although Connery and Dalton were very good actors imo. You do need to be tall dark and handsome though, imo Craig has just never looked like Bond & Tom Hiddleston is not particularly handsome, he just doesn't look like a Bond to me.

In some ways, I do agree with you there. Lazenby had no acting experience (well, not counting the Frys Chocolate advert), but he, imo, made a superb Bond based on his athleticism, look and confidence.

Yeah its a shame he didn't make a couple more. I think he walked away from Bond rather then was pushed. OHMSS is a very good Bond film imo. I think its the only Bond film where he actually wears a disguise and pretends to be Sir Hilary Bray.

He walked away and now years later says he received some really bad career advice that he should avoid being typecast and really regrets leaving so soon.
Apparently he made a ton of money in real estate and is actually quite wealthy in old age so I don't feel too sorry for him. :)

Poor Elba doesn't embody that phrase ....he's definitely cracking and showing his age :D
