Re: Custom JAMES BOND THREAD
This is a slippery slope. I started with a parts CooModel body for $10 from a parts buys from Monkey Depot, added a $25 Sean Connery head off of Evilbay and an extra Golgo 13 suit and trench I had in my parts bin to create this....
For roughly $35 invested I was happy. So then I wanted a Daniel Craig... BlackBox White tux version $125? Easy purchase....bought 2. One stays DC,......the other became my second Sean Connery Bond (another SC head $25) in his iconic white tux. Left over DC head...well Pop it on another CooModel part body ($10) and added the Magic Cube Austrian outfit for $44. So far I’ve got 4 Bond figures and I have less then $365 invested not to shabby.
So I should stop right? But this is now my Bond addiction movies I grew up with and love, so stop?? Said no heroine addict ever....watching this thread I’ve heard all the negative comments but I keep seeing the OneSixthKit Eleven Bond Set and I honestly dig it. Price drops to $47 a set with free shipping. Well if one is good 2 is better....I grab 2...I’m sure I can bash something else out of them....now it’s just the waiting until they arrive.
My plan is, I’ve got different black turtlenecks again in my parts drawers to use for the sets. The DC heads I have the WorldBox AT011 narrow shoulder bodies to use. I like the heft of them and so far haven’t been disappointed with them. The fact they can be had for $20 each I think is a deal. One DC will be in the black outfit he comes with plus my better turtleneck. The other DC with the other AT011 is going to be outfitted with the Very Cool blue tuxedo for $40. The extra black outfit is going on a $10 CooModel body from Toy Anxiety and another $25 Connery head. So, another 3 Bonds for $209.
I completely went down the rabbit hole in this. I started wanting a couple decent Bond figures in the end I’ll have 4 different DC Bonds and 3 SC Bonds. So all 7 figures for $573 or a little less then $82 a figure.
Now I’m not quoting the money spent because I’m playing high low on the Price is Right...it’s because we live in a time in this Hobby where the latest Hot Toys Iron Man coming out has a suggested retail of $407. Even though I’m not meaning to compare a kit bashed JB to IM...it just proves in this day and age where the going rate for the latest IM is over $400 you can still make something that is spectacular and has an amazing shelf presence for roughly $82 a figure. Granted the IM will have a ton of gadgets and light up gimmicks like a pen light repulsers or arc reactor and I’m sure beautiful paint apps, but it’s still a plastic figure for $400+. Personally for me it boggles my mind how far we have come in just the last 20 years of Collectibles, but then again I’m an old fart collector. I’ve been around this hobby before people were calling themselves collectors and there was no internet to find the figures or pieces you wanted but a publication that came out like a newspaper called Toy Shop...of course back then we also used our phones for talking! LOL!
