Here he is! One of the most anticipated pieces by SS of all time! Jason Voorhees for Friday the 13th part 3. People have been asking for this ever since I joined back in 2006. This review will be a little different as I will review both the reg edition and the EX. My friend has the Ex and I have seen it on in person. So was the wait worth it? Read on.
Face sculpt - 4.5 out of 5 masked - 4 out of 5 unmasked - I know many will disagree with me on this review but I am just not in love with the unmasked look of this piece. It's good but a tad to sad looking. The masked version is done very well but the it loses a half a point because the holes in the mask should be a tad larger.
Paint - 4 out of 5 Masked - 5 out of 5 unmasked - I am taking a whole point off of the masked version because of the white smear that is on the nose of this item. Sure it's supposed to be screen acurate but it is not done very well. I have seen photos of others and it's look varies. Mine looks like a big white paint smear. I had to do some of my own touch ups. Otherwise everything looks great! The unmasked it painted to perfection. Great detail with the viens in the head. it turned out much better then i thought it would.
Body Sculpt - 3 out of 5 for both - Pose - 3 out of 5 for Reg 2 out of 5 for EX - Total 3 out of 5 - I took off a point for body sculpt because I thought the back of jasons neck should have looked more hunched. There are ways to mess with the clothing to give it this look but the hunch should be there. The pose on te Reg is off because it looks like he is falling backwards from some angles. As seen in this shot.
But from other angles he looks pretty good and would be a 4 out of 5 were it not for the lack of weight being put on the left leg. Taking 2 points off may seem like al lot but I think that one angle looks awful. I give the EX a lower score because I think with the two other hands make Jason look like what people do when they do politcally incorrect impressions of mentally challenged people. Not scary at all IMO.
Clothes for both - 4 out of 5 It's sort of boring but it's done well. You may need to add some wrinkles to the paints fo they don't look like they just got pressed but after that they look great. half a point off for because the shirt could be a little lighter.
Weapons - 4 out of 5 for regular 5 out of 5 for EX. The reg and Ex come with the Ax which looks great in jason's hands the Ex comes with a machete which also looks good. no issus here.
Base - Both 2.5 out of 5 - Base does it's job but man is it boring. To bad SS could not give us an extra gravestone or something to put next to it. But it serves its purpose.
Extras for the EX - 5 out of 5 - Lets see you get and extra unmasked head, two extra hands and a great looking print. This is probably the best extras of any EX sideshow has ever done.
Lasting appeal - 3 out of 5 for reg 4.5 out of 5 for EX - I only take off 2 points because of the overall boringness of the piece. But that is not the fault of SS. It's how the character needed to look I guess. The drab colors, the pose, the base, EX owners will have a bit of fun switching things out but I could see this piece just getting a little boring. Perhaps not. Die Hard Fans of jason will love this forever though.
Overall - 3.5 out of 5 for both Not an average - I like this piece I really do. But some of the faults I see bring it's score down. For as long as fans have been screaming for this I thought SS should have knocked it out of the park. Instead of that got a double. I know many fans will think I am being to hard on this piece and perhaps I am but I can't get past what I see as faults.
Can't deny that he can look badass.
