But I'm getting two full bodies and consume and two different heads with glass eyes and rooted hair and silicone skin for the cost of a fraction of a single head and even half a custom body.
Not trying to kill your hype, but that narrative has to stop so people can know that top quality is "affordable" now.
Top tier custom headsculpt don't cost 3K anymore, you can get one for 450/500 nowadays.

I get it though, I understand Gary here.

Once you start thinking about a custom upgrade,
you begin to fixate on details and more of them and can’t stop because it becomes more than a 1:6 toy.

It has now become an art project that you develop an expensive passion for, seeing progress that trumps anything anyone will give you from a PO over the years it takes you to develop such a piece.

Gary doesn’t have any custom suits, shoes, accessories, sculpts, etc. So it’s understandable that he’d get a decent offering and call it quits at that.
I consider him lucky.

I agree with that and I wish Gary to be happy with his JND Joker, but I think we custom heads owner should let everyone know that they could be one of us if they wanted to and that the pricing is not that big of an issue as they think it is. (I was one of them before)
And maybe if they knew that in the end we don't spend millions for it we wouldn't come across as elitists as much as we do right now.

I see it as a true blessing and I wish every collector to experience the pleasure and happiness of owning a unique piece that they commissioned and that they've been part of the creative process.
It's freaking amazing.

If you want to it's doable, if you don't want to that's totally fine.
You get great options today and JND might be the best one.

See, for me there’s tons of other characters I’d rather give that custom treatment to before TDK Joker. But I get it why it’s this specific character for most of y’all in here. I think the figure that’s been on my mind a lot lately to enhance is ‘79 Ripley and have a few artists involved and commission certain things about it.
If you want to it's doable, if you don't want to that's totally fine.

👍🏼

I agree,
haven’t experienced anything like it in the hobby.

Though it’s a gift and a curse, not only is it expensive and never ending, it also ruins your enthusiasm in anything mass produced going forward, regardless of the character at hand. You no longer have any genuine faith in a companies ability to produce a quality assembly line, regardless of price.

For some people that might ignite a flame in them to where they have to seek upgrading their massive collections. Not everyone can limit themselves to a few characters, they need it all, now coupled by needing it all custom level.

No licensed company has nailed Ledger Joker. JND Kojun’s offering is horrible though, for the money. Imo, you’re better off not spending the money on it and make do with either Hot Toys or INART (for stock purposes).

I’m glad I don’t care for gimmicks in general. And JND Kojun’s draw is the silicone and I couldn’t care less. Both Kojun Joker portrait and outfit are bad. No sense in paying up for something that’s also inaccurate in many ways.

youll be hard pressed to think if any licensed company can nail ledger, not even many customs can do that besides sculptures. I've yet to see a clothing set that immediately makes me call it a magnum opus

im just buying it for ledger and the gimmick of magnet eyes and silicone lol I'm likely not gonna be impressed with it, same reason with inart and hot toys but they're "fun" to have as side pieces

That’s $425 too much. :wink1:
you should have said 424 :)

Dude I’ve already said my point. Go re-read.
“Hella inaccurate for the money” Like INART’s set was any better? $850 for two figures that need major customizing to look screen accurate. LOL.

Did you even read my post?

@roan, I don’t really care anymore for this conversation. But essentially, all I was arguing was price-to-value and I think JND Kojun’s is relatively worse between these three licensed companies. You and @Nick D and a handful of others on here are true Ledger die-hards so it makes sense y’all are defending this left and right or justifying it however you see fit. Y’all are also into customizing and whatnot. That’s cool. Not taking away from that. Seriously.

But from what I’ve noticed from the larger part of the 1/6 community (and myself included) is that they’d/we’d say that it’s too expensive for what it is – most don’t even think it looks “good”. I’ve seen this being said amongst many collectors throughout all socials. Subjective, I know, but that’s still saying something, right?

I'm not defending this, where are you getting that from? I've expressed how I feel about it multiple times. You are criticizing this release which is fine, but saying JND's tailoring is horrible when you are satisfied with IA's tailoring is laughable, sorry. It's not like IA's set was cheap..

And yes I agree this set is too expensive for what it is, I certainly wouldn't pay such a price if it wasn't my favorite character.

Yuan and Heise are the best to ever do it. I just received my sculpt from Yuan 2 days ago (on Christmas day).

But John's work beats this as well.
That's what I meant. That you could build a custom for the same cost as this, if not less, that's still a lot better in my opinion.

Show the Yuan!
Hmmm, don't believe you, how much did the Yuan sculpt cost? Then how much did a body and clothing set cost? I don't believe it cost less that £1300.

You should review John Wu’s on instagram and maybe go outside ur comfort zone on having to Yuan do it. Just my 2 cents.

I have, they're great, I prefer Yuan.

What narrative? I don't care to purchase mediocre custom related items which even on the cheaper end are far more expensive for what they should be. The top-tier quality, which you may as well go for if you're going down this route, is only a stonesthrow away from what you'd already be paying. So yeah, you can get okay custom items, in my opinion they mostly suck and not what I'm after, the good stuff IS expensive.

It's not a narrative, I'm just not going to be dropping a lot of money on something which isn't that much better than what you can get from a licensed product, if you feel that some custom items priced at the lower end are better that's great, but I don't think they are. Also, it depends what you're talking about - a headsculpt with paint and hair for 450? I've yet to see a good one that warrants spending that much on something which isn't great.

I get it though, I understand Gary here.

I agree with you. Once you're even remotely starting to think about paying half a grand for a sculpt you may as well be in for a penny in for a pound to get the better product, and that better product is usually on the pricier side.

Have to correct you, though. INART fanboi's gonna be hating this cos I got one from their toy-market murdering CEO. I have 1/4 Joker head by Jaxon that was actually (unlike 1/3 Queen Studios Joker), painted and haired by the one, the only... VIPER!

That sculpt cost around 1k. It's a good sculpt and good paint and hair job, but I'd rather have a Yuan paint and hair job, to be honest. But yeah, my Joker itch hasn't been scratched. Mostly because that head sits on a relatively alright 1/4 Hot Toys job.

So I'm not really calling it quits. Actually I had the Inart Joker set on pre-order with the aim of getting a Yuan sculpt on one of the extra bodies. Inart released final pictures and it all looked dog **** so I cancelled my order and then had nothing to put a Yuan sculpt on.

This comes along, and I actually see the value for money. I would love a 9-10/10 sculpt, which I think Yuan makes - but I haven't got anything to put it on and frankly I don't care enough to go down the tailoring custom route, that's far too much money I'm willing to sink into one character. All mass produced so far hasn't really caught my attention in terms of being good.

I own a lot of JND so I know how great the silicone and glass eyes and hair rooting is. With this release, you actually get two vastly different sculpts (A laugh!), both with moving magnetic glass eyes, hair rooting, silicone invisible joints, flush pretty accurate clothing, moveable seamless fingers and hands, two bases and a bunch of extras for, well after my discounts I think I'm getting this for like 1300 pounds. Show me anything remotely similar to this for that price range where you have two whole figures with all of those features - impossible. I'd argue very strongly how this is not value for money (people will say gimmick this, gimmick that, that's lost on me, 1/6 has always failed at visible joints, plastic hair, set-in eyes etc., this is my next-level in 1/6)

It's going to have to be pretty dire for me to not like this. Already I think this is a much, much, much better purchase for me than the Inart Joker set would have been. I can never give up on saying how glad I am that I cancelled that.

In the end, value to someone is going to differ - I think it's a bit of a reach to say that this isn't worth what it costs. It all comes down to how well made it is - skeleton and intricate metal 'bones' with silicone skin around it. Fine, I admit, the likeness isn't as good as something like Heise or Yuan, but it's still great, and with all those extras, this is going to be pretty special for me in terms of 1/6 collecting.

(now watch me buy a 600 pound tie for this lolol)

I said it’s horrible for what it is. They didn’t go the distance with it. At all. And yeah, I’m personally satisfied with INART’s also inaccurate outfit cause for mass production, imo, it’s not even that bad. I also recouped costs with that set (of which I only paid $850 USD including shipping).

Below is how I rank each article of TDK Joker clothing item across all stock offerings by HT, IA, and JND in order from best to worst:
  • Coat - HT, IA, JND
  • Blazer - IA, HT, JND
  • Shirt - JND, IA, HT
  • Tie - HT, JND, IA
  • Vest - IA, JND, HT
  • Pants - IA, JND, HT
  • Shoes - IA, JND, HT
  • Gloves - JND, IA, HT
JND doesn’t even win in most categories for me. Like I’d honestly rather upgrade with HT parts than JND and that’s saying something lol…

Elaboration (my opinion, obviously):

Disclaimer: I’m not saying INART has nailed anything 100%.. they haven’t. But as is, it’s either good enough or better than HT and JND in most areas….

If I wanted to upgrade my stock purple coat INART Joker, I’d probably look at replacing the purple coat and tie with Hot Toys first. The HT purple coat is a nice shade of darker purple and the buttons are not oversized like JND’s. The HT is easily the best between all three makes.

The rest on the IA is pretty good.

All three vests are inaccurate af, with their bright lime-green color and between all three, I think INART’s is at least more muted. If I’m gonna keep an inaccurate colored vest, why would I want or swap it out for an even brighter colored one..? The IA pants are also much better and accurate to me vs JND. JND’s are too short/don’t have any break, the purple color is also too saturated. IA’s shoes look best to me too. While not 100% accurate in terms of suede material, they’re at least the right color, muted and not glossy like JND’s or both glossy and wrong colored like HT’s.

The only articles of clothing I think are hands down better with JND are the shirt and the gloves (IA gloves are decent though, at least they’re not glossy and plastic-y like HT). As for the shirt, I don’t even see much of it anyway since I have my Joker leaned over, obscuring it. But sure, if I ever came across a loose JND shirt (never happening probably), maybe I’d upgrade. Or just go custom at that point.

My whole point was comparing stock vs stock vs stock and JND’s leaves tons to be desired in that department, especially for the price…… Just my opinion!!!!
