I want people to get enjoyment out of any figure they may be interested in purchasing. As far as I can tell nobody on this forum has this figure in hand to give their fair take on it. None of the trusted reviewers have it yet either. Yes - things aren't looking promising thus far from the limited resources we have.
I'd like to think most people on here are aware of the custom scene - especially when it comes to Heath Ledger Joker because he has been perhaps the top custom 1/6 figure of all time. As I mentioned in another thread with a laughing emoji thing provided by Collector Freaks this trip has been going on for 15 years.
Simply put "we know."
The thing about Ledger Joker is one custom doesn't really do it does it because he has so many looks. Sometimes you couldn't even tell it was Heath Ledger under the grease paint at all and he even won a Oscar because of it. How many different major and minor variations of the makeup does he have anyway? Real question.

Granted back then the forum was a lot more active so maybe you're correct Scout in that I don't belong here anymore. I'm holding onto the old ways.
TBF though Maglor's thread up there holds a lot of valuable if now dated information that can be found in one place if one so chooses to search for it. It is a handy guide as are all of the posts in the Custom section. Again I guess it's about being on topic because talks of Customs may get lost elsewhere.
Some people, I would guess most - just want to purchase their favorite mass produced figure and be done with it. I'm not sure the Custom market is even the same hobby.

To be fair, I'm incredibly avant-garde when it comes to my forum browsing which I pursued as a part-time career in my youth; had countless 'arguments' with people safe-guarding threads as they hated any varying degree of topic outside of what was in the title. My opposition to it was, and is, and always will be, if a thread is dead and people want to talk about the topic with direct relations to something else, then why not? What's the point of sitting on dead threads.
Obviously this isn't true when topics go wildly off-field with no relation to the topic. Again, the current conversation is mostly between people who actually have purchased the set, and who also dabble in custom purchases.
If this were the Hot Toys Joker thread, yeah, it'd be off-topic. How are you going to be comparing a £300 figure to a set that is over £1500? Inart is fine as that set was over 1k. JND sits squarely in the custom level-threshold. So it goes without saying that people who are dropping money on this are the types of people who would in some degree collect something custom, and as such, would compare the value of what this set brings by comparison.

No hard feelings, but now you must say what your favourite custom Joker sculpt is and explain why in at least 100 words, as penance.
You’d be hard pressed to find someone from Collector Freaks who has never customized or wanted to customize / build something from the ground up.

So in your fifteen years here, you’ve tolerated customs by the droves, never participated but still somehow mad, but apparently not enough to stop joining in the conversation?
If you don’t like the mention of customs why would you put yourself through fifteen years of them, prominently viewable through both sites. I’d just click PO and watch YouTube videos at that point.

Talking about customizing stock figures in related threads is okay in my book. I’m in the “collector who is good enough with most mass produced items” but I personally don’t get truly offended if people are talking about enhancing said figure. I mean, it’s when unreasonable things are being said that irks me, but every figure can be customized to be better. That’s just how it is. And people in here are more in tune with the details and strive to have a figure that’s as accurate as possible, ripped off the screen and sitting in your shelf. It’s par for the course. I personally appreciate it. I wish this discourse was more prevalent on Facebook and YouTube.
That said, I still think the ultra-sticklers for wanting better and versed in the custom world are still somewhat of a minority here. You also see this discussion more especially with lines that are shared with IA and JND.
If you’d like to go somewhere where “bashing” of stock figures in any way is frowned upon, I suggest Facebook or YouTube.

The custom scene has also become much more accessible over the years. The hobby has changed. During the DX12 days, the only talk that was being done on this forum was discussions based around Hot Toys figures. That was it for 99% of the forum. The custom scene was extremely niche. It still is for the general public but people have become much more familiar with it since.
That customization thread for the DX12 mainly consisted of people cutting the stock hands, cutting pieces off the stock elbow pad so that it was separated and grabbing pieces from the older DX02 release. At most, the only custom piece people were getting was Tony Mei's capes.
Now you have INART, JND and a lot more artists doing custom work due to the advancement of 3D printing. You have various third party companies providing upgrades parts and various accessories for stock figures like TOPO. You have OT providing an accurate TDK cowl and sculpt. Companies are now trying to blur the line between the old "stock" figures we've been used to seeing, to more realistic "custom" looking figures. Still room for improvements for all companies but it's great to see it slowly happening. Hell, Hot Toys has just been hiring custom artists and buying their sculpts to use on their figures now.
It's kind of hard to expect the discussion to not blur between the two. Back when the DX11 and DX12 were released, I never thought I would step into the custom world due to the outrageous prices you would see at the time with Adam Gu's sculpt and Kato's outfit. Now I've acquired multiple custom outfits and have jumped on multiple sculpt runs. Even acquired a fully custom made Matrix 2 Neo figure for $315.
As these company produced figures are getting more and more expensive, reaching custom level pricing, the discussion will naturally turn to comparing the two. It's natural. It's not about "elitism". A lot of folks have been in this hobby for over a decade. The bar and expectation for these figures have only moved upwards over the years. We're not getting any younger.

I'd argue customs are what is improving the "mass market" figures in the first place.
Viper was making custom runs before he spear-headed Inart and introduced custom level work at a mass-produced scale.
Similarly Kojun was doing custom work before joining JND. I don't know if he ever sold his silicone with skeleton figures or if they were just prototype, regardless, if he wasn't doing that then JND probably wouldn't exist like it does now.
It will always, no matter how you look, be wrong of a collector to look down on someone else because they can't or don't want to purchase a higher cost item, but in no way is it wrong for a collectors ethos of wanting the best possible realistic version down to every detail from the screen to their desk. That's where their joy is, but the two shouldn't be misconstrued unless it's clearly the case a collector is trying to laude something over someone else - otherwise everyone would be collecting Lego characters. Everyone's searching for their own limit of representation of a character.
