So in your fifteen years here, you’ve tolerated customs by the droves, never participated but still somehow mad, but apparently not enough to stop joining in the conversation?

If you don’t like the mention of customs why would you put yourself through fifteen years of them, prominently viewable through both sites. I’d just click PO and watch YouTube videos at that point.

Trust me Nick (and possibly others) - you do not smell blood in the water otherwise I would bite like a shark. I just don't give a **** anymore like the many others who have soured and quit this forum causing it to be on life support. Yeah, perhaps it seemed like I cared just a few short hours ago with my initial post but I think I was just grasping at the last straw.

With that straw being can we at least wait until we have a better understanding of what we are dealing with before flying off the rails? I get mass production will never satisfy you have stated this many times. With this I hope you can at least realize that without it you wouldn't have a hobby. The mass produced figures and the customs feed off one another and look how far we have come in both fields.

I’m sorry you do not wish to seek out a Ledger to be its best but there are many that do and therefore they view all of the threads and discussion between it all will always happen, how could it not? You’d like to make a purchase with no thought of the details on the other versions of it? That helps people figure out which to grab, which to hold off, so they don’t have every version they can’t get rid of.

Let me preface this with that I consider myself more of a customizer than collector nowadays, and the custom Ledger Joker thread is currently one of my favorite threads on this forum (even if I don't participate in it actively).

I care a lot about details, am a perfectionist at heart, while embracing that nothing can ever be perfect. So I love exploring what I and others are capable of and what's possible to achieve.

In my professional life, I'm the same. It's what makes me good at my job and is what I enjoy most about working.

When I first started out, naturally I (vocally) focused on the shortcomings of processes, products, and any other type of output, including my own work. That way I can explore and develop improvements, and I see it as something positive.
But it turned out that to others who dont care as much about the nitty gritty details and get their joy from other aspects of work, it comes across as rather negative. I once got the feedback that I came across as somewhat of a debbie downer.
While I truly see it as something positive, others can perceive it at something negative. I learned that that level of detail talk is best to be shared only with like-minded people.

The average collector doesn't care about the level of detail as some of us here do. Seeing only talk about shortcomings and future improvement instead of celebrating and enjoying the positive aspects, can easily be viewed by others as negative, and makes them not want to participate anymore. While it brings us enjoyment, it can kill their excitement.

So in general, compartimentalizing the detailed custom level talk into more dedicated threads makes sense to me, and especially made sense in the past when this place was really active.

Having said that, I also fully agree that this JND Joker is so close to custom level in both detail and price, that most people who are interested in this and/or buy it are probably exactly of this mindset. So keeping custom talk out of this thread doesn't make sense to me.

This thread has actually made me consider custom work more than usual, if one is paying similar prices to JND, then I think it's definitely something to consider. I really love screen accuracy, even if it's an item that is covered up by a cape, it's just those little details that elevate these figures for me. Same with my artwork, it's about getting those little details there because for me, they turn a decent piece into a fantastic one. I treat my figures the same, so I will look at custom work a lot more.

One thing about customs at least the earlier ones, is they can be terrible for selling down the road should you need to. You almost never get back what you invested. Really needs to be a considered a loss. With licensed, you can get close to retail depending on the character of course. There's no doubt customs can get you a better overall look and accuracy, but me personally, I always want a genuine licensed product. Despite it being more expensive and debatably inferior, I am ok with this. In the end, it's your own individual display and should be no argument as to what is better, depends on what your preference is.

Since my headache has subsided I am going to answer this. This dry air is killing me man.

I didn't mean to imply I didn't like customs because that can't be further from the truth. They just aren't for me for various reasons. For example back in the Rainman days they were super expensive and HT was new and more than satisfying during that era especially at $150 - $250. These things were simply amazing back then compared to everything else. Not sure if you were there but the OG BR Joker blew everyone's minds. Nobody had seen that kind of realism in a 1/6 figure before. And then HT really took off from there.

This was a very thriving and often chaotic board with a lot of cliques - again not sure if you were there?

The customs section was generally for the "elites." I'm not saying all were snobs or anything but it just wasn't for me other than peeking in and admiring the work.

The DC board was always madness with the most passionate collectors it seems. HT SW didn't even exist yet and Marvel was just getting started as well.

Getting back to customs - what exactly are we talking about here? You or someone else mentioned custom capes. I have done head swaps - I didn't own a Luke Skywalker figure other than ANH until the Bespin/Mando sculpt came along and then I bought them all and put that head on all of them with the various hair pieces. Is that a custom or just swapping heads I don't know. Same goes for capes - custom? I never really looked at it that way. More "upgrade" I would say.

I think the point I am trying to make in my rambling is back then it was a nice balance between simple "upgrades" and the more serious work - customs.

There was a place for everyone when the board was thriving so that is how I made it this long.

Now it seems the custom guys (you) want to infiltrate everything especially pertaining to Batman and Joker (often calling the stock **** in the process) and you are doing this very early on before the figure even makes it to collectors hands. Can you see the issue yet?

I'm going assume you are smart enough to have figured it out already. Cool?

My dudes, I'll give you Jaxon but I wouldn't call a $300 cowl from the others "cheap." Besides, HT should be nailing those now - scan the digital file and shrink it down ffs. Same goes for helmets. They should be perfect. Head sculpts too but they insist on artistry aka analog.

I think I have made my point somewhere in there.

Huh, is that Justin Collection? Does he has some insider footage for the figure or something? The footage we've been shown so far barely shows off the figure to make the decision to cancel imo. And he's the biggest 1/6 youtuber, I don't know why he would cancel when he could make a video review of it.

While it definitely sucks to lose the entire deposit, if that is their policy, then tough luck. Always gotta read everything before blindly agreeing thinking their policies are the same as anywhere else. You agree to those terms when you place the order basically. It’s no different than ppl asking for their NRD back from OSK then getting mad and filing a dispute b/c they thought they were special for some reason

Just keep the order, keep it for a few months till it sells out (despite its issues it should have no problem Selling out due to the popularity of the character) and then make a few bucks selling it on the secondary market

It’s a tax write off. Dumb he’s trying to cancel so prematurely. If I was JND I’d do the same. Their proto to production is generally close. What you see is typically what you get.
