His chin was shortened a bit too much imo
Yeah. These are the structure differences I'm seeing between the old and the new sculpts in that area.
I think they had these features down already. The problem was more perimeter proportions (width of jawline, length/width of the neck). They may have changed those for the better, but they also seem to have mucked up what was already on point
.
You can still tease out a resemblance even when certain individual features are "off"- but the broad, square jawline was kind of a hallmark of Reeve's features.

I wasn't digging it in the teaser - much preferred the original proto - but this looks like all kinds of wrong in that pic.

It is a bit hard to accurately tell as the photo is so small, but yeah... it doesn't even look like Reeve there. At least the other one did, albeit not perfect, but it was clearly Reeve. This has the potential to look horrendous next to the Clark Kent if the sculpts aren't even remotely alike :(

Thinking about - I'd be really pissed if I had pre-ordered this. Minor changes/improvements are acceptable, but this is like ordering a Toyota and getting a Hyundai.

Too bad if you order from a place that has a non refundable deposit.

I'm actually liking it from this photo to be honest and feel better about my PO rather than worse. Looking forward to the full reveal to really tell. The hair is really improved

Are ya'll referring to this pic??

If so, I honestly think this looks pretty good from this angle if I'm being honest. I'll make a fair judgment after they reveal the video of the full sculpt in a few hours. I knew there would be some nay sayers to the improvements and say they'd prefer the original prototype and blah blah blah, but as someone who has this on PO, im liking what I see so far. And no, I'm not trying to justify my purchase of this piece, I genuinely like what I see. Can't wait to see the full reveal video when I wake up tomorrow(or later) this morning.

Why would you automatically assume this?

If you can honestly see Reeve in that - great! All power to you.

I can't see Reeve anymore - but as I said, it's hard to judge it properly on such a small photo (but your larger version hasn't done it any favors in my book), and I'll be happy to admit my initial impressions were wrong. But at this stage, I much prefer the proto. I didn't like the neck/chin/mouth reveal the other day either.

I own The Batman and I'm the first to say the Pattinson likeness isn't 100%, but is hidden by the cowl somewhat, but I can't see Pattinson in the Bruce Wayne version at all, but the Bale Bruce Wayne to me is a dead ringer - and I'm sure there would be plenty of people who would disagree with me and say it's off.

Guess I'll just have to wear the tag of naysayer... :slap

At the end of the day, I don't think there will ever be any one sculpt that is universally praised by all, regardless of the character/actor. We see it time and time again across multiple scales in this hobby. One person's 100% spot on is another person's completely off. Both opinions are valid as we all have different ideas/biases in our mind's of what someone should look like.

For this piece in particular, it would be good on JND to 100% reimburse the deposit and NRD for those who do not like this update and prefer to cancel as this isn't what they ordered. It could potentially fall under the "prototype final product may vary," but this isn't a change that has happened during production; so theoretically, that shouldn't apply here given that this is considered a relaunch.

I'd take a 'looks slightly less like him but looks healthy Reeve' over a 'looks like him but he just pulled a 72 hour shift Reeve' any day.

This looks superb to me. Costume colour looks VERY accurate to the original fabric. Can't wait to see the official re-launch photos, but I'm VERY happy with this so far.

I like it but I am not blown away by it. Probably the eyes are the problem. They should be bigger. Anyway as usual the video quality is washed out. I don't know why JND releasing videos like that. I guess tommorow the gallery will be up on their site and we can have a better look.

Well, I'm absolutely sticking by my initial feeling - I cannot see one ounce of Reeve in that new sculpt. Personally, it's a shocker, up there with their Liv Tyler. His head is waaaay too blocky now, the eyes are way off - the hair is the only genuine improvement.

Each to their own, but again, I'd be super pissed.

Now I'm really worried that they'll make Indy worse than what it already is. Might be losing my NFD if they do :(

I have to agree with you. The expression is just not there.

I'm on the phone with a friend who has ordered the two-set, and he's seething. I sent him that pic with the old and the new, and at first glance he thought the new one was the one on the right and got all excited until I told him it was the other way around.

Now the conversation has turned into a counselling session.

I can see preferring how a photoshop adjusted version of the original sculpt might be preferable to this new one- but comparing them as is, there's little doubt to me that the new one is a net improvement.

Is it overwhelmingly accurate and an outstanding recreation of Reeve? Not at that level to me. There are definitely elements that I think they had closer on the first sculpt.
OTOH, I wasn't expecting them to change the structure around the eyes and they did- and I have to give them credit there because in that area the new sculpt is substantially closer to Reeve.

But it's not right to get hung up only on certain features at the exclusion of how they all coalesces into an impression.
For anyone who can't see a resemblance to Reeve AT ALL in this new HS, it makes me question how that person's brain processes visual information.
