Did anyone else watch this? Looks like it could get interesting. I am unsure where its going though. There are quite few weird characters. The fact that a few surfers were in it and was about a surfing famaily got me started.

i watched The Tudors on Showtime instead but was wondering how this one went. i'll catch it on replay next week. i don't have any shows to watch now. summer t.v. sucks! when does The Wire new season start?

i do watch Big Love though, the new season starts up tomorrow.

I watched it. It was interesting if not confusing. I mainly wanted to see it because it was created by David Milch.

Really looking forward to Big Love returning.

I tivoed it. Will watch it later this week.

Will be watching Big Love tomorrow too.

i watched it and have hopes for it. missed a bit in the biggining tho. was stomping round the house throwing crap because of the Sopranos ep hehe. where exactly does the Cincinnati part apply to this? i saw him pouring water on himself w/ our old stadium in the background for like 1 scene but other than that i couldn't place my home town Cincy.

glad Milch is on this but wish he'd give us those 2 Deadwood movies we were promised. the ending of that series was bad enough (along w/ Carnivale) but now w/ the way they raped Sopranos i REALLY want some closure to these ******* shows! tried but can't get into Big Love.

When he was poring water on himself I have no idea where that should be. It is supposed to be a beach near the border but I have never seen that in Ocean Beach. I have no Idea why Cinci is in this. Remeber that wasn't John pouring water John is the weitd guy who keeps repeating everything.

I tried to watch Big Love I got thru like 3-4 episodes but when the Old guy I think Grandpa was there with his wifes for a party and one was one of the daughters friends and was maybe barely a teenager and for some reason I think she was pregnant I was done. That was way to creapy for me. Before that it was OK but after that I was just :monkey4 :monkey4 :monkey4 :monkey4

I don't think those Deadwood movies are ever going to be made. Everyone's moved on to other things. But it does look like the actor who played Ellsworth will be a regular on this show. I'm sure some other Deadwood alum will show up.

oh yeah! heh, was thinking Yoste was John. so the repeater is from Cincy. hmm, see i thought Yoste was at the beach but that was definitely our old stadium (which was torn down a few years back) in the background when Yoste (sp?) poured the water next to the station wagon and floated, plus there wasn't any other landmarks around the stadium. i thought it looked really weird and outta place but figured i'd missed something. come to think of it i don't think there's any angle u could film the stadium from w/o getting the rest of downtown also. wonder WTF that's all about. time displacement? dimensional over lap? lol. maybe when he floats he can teleport.

I just looked and the stadium is in Mexico just on the other side of the border and he was down at the beach right around the border.

I'm liking what I saw in the first episode, sure it's quirky and you have no idea where it's going, but it's got a great cast and the writing is awesome. I'm interested in knowing just who or what John is.

Yeah its a big :dunno. Between the dad, the kid, and Johns weird ass I was like WTF?

I watched it and thought it was a bunch of pretentious BS. After the show they did a segment with Milch and he talked about it and I still don't know what it's supposed to be about.

I only watched it for the fantasy angle, but it seems to me Milch just got HBO to give him a bunch of money so he and his friends could go surf.

With all due respect Dave, I think calling it pretentious after the first episode is a little harsh. I respect the fact that Milch isn't spelling it all out to us. It comes down to "if you like my shows or surfing, watch it ... if not, who gives a #$%^." Kind of brave considering how quick they pull the plug on new shows lately. Plus, I really doubt that the show is that expensive to shoot.

I actually enjoyed the first show. I may be reading too much into it, but I'm getting a good v. evil vibe. Father and son - capable of miracles (floating - i.e. walking on water, resurrection, etc.) A mysterious stranger - John - who can give you whatever you want - i.e. temptation. John's attraction (not sexual ... he's drawn to him ... but still sad that I have to explain here :D ). Could a simple surfing show be the cover for something else on a grand scale? Maybe ... maybe not. But I like the actors - who wouldn't watch a show with a senile Al Bundy :lol - and I like the dialog.

P.S. The first 2 episodes are titled - His visit: day one and His visit: day two ... hmm are they talking about "John" or the crazy millionaire who got violated with the broom handle?

P.S.S. Okay, I guess I am finally "old". It seems like just yesterday I was hitting puberty and sneaking peeks of De Mornay in Risky Business when my parents weren't looking. Now, she's playing a grandmother?!? Yowza!

Woah. I, at first, thought they were calling John - John Money with a funky accent... sort of a play on words by Butchie on John's cash and credit cards. However, IMDB lists his name as John Monad. I knew that term sounded familiar from my college days, so I did a web search:

Monad is an English term meaning "one," "single," or "unit," especially in technical contexts. It comes from the Late Latin stem monad-, which comes from the Greek word monos or μονάς (from the word μόνος, which means "one", "single", or "unique"), and may refer to:

Philosophy

Monism, the metaphysical and theological view that all is of one essence, and this essence is sometimes called the monad.

Monad (symbol), For many others, including Pythagoras, Parmenides, Xenophanes, Plato, Aristotle, and Plotinus, Monad was a term for God or the first being, or the totality of all beings.
Monad (Gnosticism), the most primal aspect of God in Gnosticism.

So this is either a retelling of the Matrix with surfboards :)monkey3 ) or something much deeper. I am intrigued.

the first episode was terrible in my opinion. will give it more time because i know you can't judge a new show off the first few but if they show more than a minute of surfing a show, i'm out.
