I’ve been saying for a while now that the only good action movies in recent years have been the Mission impossible and JW films.
Both staring 50 something’s doing most of their own stunts. Probably the only two real movie stars left.
I give JW the edge over MI.
JW is the much easier series to return to time and time again.
I will say this for part 4

I liked Top Gun: Maverick I did not love it and I am baffled why people did love it as much as they did. But it’s a quality movie for sure. Cruise seems to always deliver anymore.That's right you didn't care for Maverick either. What the hell happened to you Dillon, you used to be someone I could trust.
Hey I like Avatar 2… but not nearly as much as you.
I would say as of right now I probably got more enjoyment out of Maverick and Avatar 2 then I did JW4
But my expectations were much higher.
And if this ends up being the last JW film I will forever be disappointed as the overall story and villain was a major let down.
I want a part 5 where JW, Halle Berry, Donnie Yen, Morpheus, the two Asian guys from the raid movies, and mr Nobody take on the Table.
I’ll forgive 4 it’s missteps then lol

In all seriousness that'd be cool but if Keanu is done then I'm more than satisfied with how it ended. I've always enjoyed John taking on endless waves of goons more than the "boss fights" and in that regard JW4 was the best of the bunch IMO.
I didn’t need a boss fight per say… but something better than Frenchy PennywiseSame though I love all three.

I got a bit board with the action sequences in this one. Never happened in the others. Though I did love that overhead shot sequence. For me most of the action lacked the inventiveness of the other films.
Action scenes could have all been a bit shorter also… I mean I love me some JW action but I can only see just so many bad guys flip over cars and JW hide behind his bulletproof jacket for so long
Also as much as I like Mr Nobody. His part of the story added nothing to the film. He could have been cut out and it would not have impacted the film at all.
I only say this because that run time is going to also effect my desires for repeated viewing

It's always just some phantom leadership and whoever he kills just gets replaced by someone else. Kill someone in a high rise, they're replaced. Blow away a shiek in the desert, he's replaced. And so on. Kill all their elite guards with bulky armor and helmets or slick padded suits, they get more. And we've seen John do all that.
Having The Table be some undefeatable system (as opposed to a central bad guy or group of bad guys holed up in a "base" somewhere) almost gives them a super ominous Cthulu-esque vibe which I think is really cool. Victory is taking out all the members who are personally after you or have wronged you and then having your debts cleared so that you don't have to look over your shoulder going forward.
I'm not saying that your "Endgame" approach couldn't be cool but it could also cheapen the whole mythos that they've established.

Ok I will agree with JAWS on the Tracker guy he could be cut out. I didn’t hate him he had some cool scenes but ultimately not needed.
That is where my agreement with JAWS ends lol
Yes I missed not seeing Auriello (that dude is a whiner in real life btw lol) and Sofia but there was enough greatness that made up for it plus Winston got an extended role that was really well written especially considering the you know what.
I will hold my ground that it has the best shoot out in cinema history, the best use of “bass” in cinema history and some of the best action set pieces in cinema history.
Now I know Jaws shook his head when I brought up Die Hard 1 and of course I will always love Die Hard 1 as it is also in my top 10 but I never said that this movie was completely better than Die Hard what I said was that Die Hard has an absolutely better narrative focus but that JW4 easily surpasses Die Hard in the action department. You know that to be the truth.
Now can we all just agree already that civilians ignoring the battles out in public proves that this movie is a damn Matrix sequel!
During the France roundabout literally every civilian was just oblivious to the battle taking place!
Pennywise dude was The Merovingian lol

But we did get what we already got before. Only more meh and it’s the last film where we should get something a bit….. more.

Yeah but JW should go after the Table that made the decision to kill him. It’s about the revenge not the system.
Agreed but this is where the story was heading. It should go bigger… not just longer.
Seriously what was one new thing this film offered that the others did not. Every action scene was done in earlier films. You like the dogs from part 3, you got it but not as cool. You like the gun fights in 1 and 2.. ok here you go but longer. You like JW vs one main baddie?? Ok here you go. How about a bounty on John’s head like part 2 but this time it will be 40 million. Enjoy!
My endgame ending is more of a joke but the end of part
Story wise part 4 failed imo. Especially as a final film. Remember the end of the third film? “You pissed John” “yeah” where was the resolution to that.? Killing the one head table guy??? Meh. John didn’t even get his ring back. I thought maybe that was going somewhere.
I think it’s obvious the writer of the first three films did not return for this one. There seemed to be set ups for 4 but the writer not returning seemed to kill those ideas ( Halley Barry, Angelica Huston, the two Asian guys from the Raid that KW said “Be seeing you “ to. It was the Table that demanded his head. And I gotta believe Winston was being set up for something since he attempted to kill John.. but that was basically ignored
I don’t want to appear as someone who hates the films. But as a final film to the series it disappointed me in about every way.
If it was the first film I would have thought it was great. But others did everything better IMO.
Oh Well. I do look forward to seeing it again in 4k. The film was gorgeous to look at.

Yep definitely a Matrix simulation or The Table simply spans the population of the entire globe. Cops, families, French Commuters, everyone is in on whatever is actually going on.
I always love Winston… but this was my least fav of his appearances. I think he just works better in The Continental
Sound was great. I prefer shoot outs in part one to be honest. But that overhead shot was brilliant.
In all honesty all the JW films put 80’s action scenes to shame.
Go watch The Raid films. Only thing close.
That don’t bother me. That sort of stuff happened in the other films.
I’m trying to recall but there is that subway station moment where peeps are killed and everyone goes about their business. It’s just the world of JW. Everyone just accepts that 50 percent of the population is a hit man lol

I didn’t like the France locations too dark, dingy, wet and grey.
I much prefer the bright sets from JW3.

The shots inside some of those churches was amazing though. France is ugly though lol
JW3 is just an amazing looking film.
The overhead battle and Frogger roundabout were not done in previous films. Giant staircase was new, dueling pistols new, chasing Arabs on horseback new (lol) going all Gambit with playing cards was new. Lots of new stuff. I don't know how anyone could watch this and come away saying "same old same old but worse than previous films."
I'm just going to assume that this is one of those deals where you criticize a movie until you see it a second time and then recognize the error of your ways.
I agree that taken as one giant 10 hour story or however long the combined movies are then it would have been nice to see some things get resolved like certain characters reappearing or his car or ring or what have you. But still I maintain that overall JW4 was an amazing film in and of itself and that as the probable end to the series it satisfyingly resolved the butterfly effect of his life becoming unraveled due to the kid first messing with him in JW1.
But the things that didn't see closure were all pretty minor IMO and nowhere near Hulk not getting a rematch with Thanos or "Rey I've got something important to tell you" levels of unresolved threads, lol.
Not quite 80's but I prefer the action in John Woo's Hard Boiled (1992) to the Raid films. Not knocking The Raid, I really enjoyed both of them, I guess I just don't have them on the same pedestal as others.
