I just find it baffling how WB signed off on this. They had to have seen it. They literally let there most iconic characters get graped and then say it wasn’t him all along. Again there is no point to the movie. Don’t call it the joker if we are following just some guy. WB better pray that Superman movie is a hit cause if that bombs aswell they might as well sell to Disney.

And yes I’m sure they are dumb enough to sell to Disney cause they really don’t care about there characters

That plus all the revenue from attractions.

One film bombing, an outdated universe bombing, none of it enough to give it all away. How many Batman and Superman films have we had..

I don’t think it was WB, I think it was more likely that any director they approached for it didn’t have the balls to touch it because they deemed it career s*icide and would be out of work like Schumacher was. Actors all felt the same way about superhero films at the time.

Batman Returns did bad in the eyes of parents, didn’t stop them from booting its director in favor of a more PG-13 one.

WB is going to try and push a film out as frequently as possible, regardless of the last one; infinite do-overs. No one to answer to as they own the properties.

Thank God the Nolan Brothers stepped up.

“Joker: Folie à Deux” bombed with critics and at the box office, but not with Quentin Tarantino. The filmmaker recently appeared on “The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast” and raved over the divisive “Joker” sequel, which is barely at the $60 million mark domestically after nearly a month in theaters. The movie’s worldwide total stands at $201 million, a huge nosedive from the 2019 movie’s billion dollar gross.

Funny - the Bret Easton Ellis podcast. Given the murders of the guys in the train in Joker seemed to be channeling revenge on the American Psycho archetype.

Tarantino loves that Joker 2 is a nod to his Natural Born Killers; its his narcissism. He gets to stand with Scorsese as an influencer.

Plus, Joker 2 sounds like it has the kind of twisted fairy tale Quentin would like, only he'd write it with better dialogue.

Watching the movie tonight, I think it works much better knowing what's going to happen, going in. I can understand how folks were taken aback, but I mean ... the guy murdered multiple people, he's not a good guy. 'You get what you deserve' is right there.

I think the jump from the guards assaulting Arthur, to Arthur giving up was not really "earned." I'm guessing the movie was showing that he wasn't really insane, and that kind of pain brought it home for him. But there were other times were he faced hardship and just reverted to his laughter, so that part didn't work for me.

Of course, the judge even allowing Arthur to defend himself in court, much less allowing him to put on his clown makeup, strains credulity, but I allow it for the sake of the story.

I'm guessing this movie suffered in the same way Matrix 4 did, "Hey, we're going to make this movie, you can make it, or we'll find someone else." I'm guessing most folks went into it expecting Arthur and Lee go off on a crime spree ... but that would be pretty silly considering what the first movie was all about. It would've been nice to see Arthur get some help to deal with his issues, but that probably also would've been unbelievable.

Yeah I went into this very late with all the hate for it in the forefront of my mind. I was laughing harder than Joker as I left the theater, mulling that British term "taking the piss."

The only other time I can think of where a major franchise got thrown under the bus by a meta satire sequel is Gremlins - where Gremlins 2 was loathed by fans and it bombed and ended the franchise. Interestingly, also Warners. These are rare and interesting cultural events you have to listen carefully to hear over the sobbing and bitter raging of fans.

Unpopular opinion:

Leto Joker wasn't trash.

I rather liked his modern Thug/gangsta-lookin persona. Really liked his laugh. That version of the character wasn't given enough time to shine.

Leto's Joker was a ******* lunatic.

And I loved that about him!

There was potential for sure.
Even in the 2016 version.

I'm fascinated by the theory that his Joker would supposedly have been Robin turned mad. It checked out. It could have been an interesting angle. Just think about the implications of that on an emotional level, with regards to his relationship to Batman.

I'm still convinced that was the original intention, and that they backtracked.

This movie is about the end of Hollywood, the end of entertainment. That's about as mega-meta as you get.
