I will never understand the obsession with this. I also wish the ST was a better story, but why was it so important to have a scene specifically with the trio together? Every time legacy franchises pull a forced reunion like that it gets very cringe.

Not a scene. That should have been most of, if not the entirety, of the first movie. As we can see pretty clearly now, there was no real reason for a ST to even exist if it wasn’t going to try and continue on the OT (or even prequels!) story and characters. Instead we got contrivances to force the main trio apart (Han Solo really lost his ship AND separated from Leia AND decided to go back to smuggling as a senior citizen? Sure ok) so there could be more focus on new characters.

That is my perspective at least!

There’s been some good stuff that happened under KK’s leadership. Rogue One, Rebels, Mando seasons 1 & 2, the Galaxy’s Edge parks.

Add The Bad Batch, Clone Wars season 7 (weird sister arc not included), Jedi: Fallen Order, Jedi: Survivor and Andor to this.

I realize I'm in the minority but I did like the Ahsoka show.

There's a lot of bad in there as well - the non-Rogue One movies, Book of Boba, Mando Season 3, Acolyte....but the inability for some people to admit they enjoyed anything over the last decade is crazy. I think people are either hating because it's cool, they don't want to like Star Wars anymore and they're in denial, or ultimately, they're struggling with the fact that they're aging and have different tastes now.

It's a bit much to be acting like Star Wars is dead when it's definitely not, or that Filoni/Favreau are some kind of problem, when they're not.

Obviously you have no idea what's she's been involved with.

Her track record with SW May be debatable, but her career has been incredible....

Most curious to see who they replace her with and how long it will take SW fans to hate them.

I like Andor S1 a lot but I admit its a bit slow. No re-watchability for me. I hope Andor S2 is great. I'm pretty confident it will be really good.

Everything else I could do without, just like the EU. Mando was fine for a moment. Fine... isn't good enough over time. All the rest could go away and I'd never miss it.

So in the end, for me, over the last decade... Tony Gilroy is where "Star Wars" is at. For me.

I feel like this was the initial plan , but Ford may be more to blame for this not happening than people realize .

Just imagine if those were all we ever got after ROTJ. The Saga would be legendary with no stink of controversy whatsoever. People would still joke about the Holiday Special but would forgive it for being such a novelty outlier.

I'm not sure that's necessarily a fault. It's a complete arc, it has some incredible moments, it's a long, often subtle story that sets up S2 beautifully. I will never re-watch Mad Men, The Sopranos or The Wire, but they remain standout experiences in long-form narratives for me.

I may re-visit S1 of Andor in bits and pieces after I experience S2, which I have a lot of confidence in at the moment. It may even serve to further elevate S1, we'll see. It does look like there's more in terms of spectacle in S2, which is what Star Wars was built on, hence its re-watchability on the whole, but the films have less complexity -- they're popcorn flicks which is great.

Yeah I enjoyed Ahsoka as well, that show’s main problem was how bad the fight choreography was. But the video games thing reminds me that they kinda f’ed that up as well for quite a while by shuttering Lucas Arts (pretty sure that happened after the Disney sale) and then giving sole rights to EA for such a long time where they basically did nothing with the license for years outside of the Battlefront multiplayer games. They finally opened it up to other developers like Ubisoft, but that new game is pretty meh from what I’ve heard. And EA still can’t even get that KOTOR remake out that was announced many years ago at this point.

I entirely agree that dissolving LucasArts was a mistake (I’m still mad about 1313 being cancelled), but it doesn’t take away from the Jedi games being excellent. They’re a lot of fun and Survivor improved on nearly every shortcoming that Fallen Order had, so I’m excited to see what they do for the next game.

At this point, I’ve lost faith in a modern remake of KOTOR. If it happens, great. If not, I’m done waiting on it anyway. Who knows how much longer I’ll be able to hang playing these games anyway.

I agree, the Jedi games are excellent. But only 3 single player games over 13 years is complete mismanagement by the higher ups at Lucasfilm.

Eh I love the original trio as much as anyone else, but I didn't need an entire movie with a geriatric Han, Luke and Leia going on an adventure together. As it would have seemed FAR more fan servicey than what we got, and frankly a bit sad.

I don't love everything the writers did in the ST, but the idea of spreading out the legacy characters and making it more about a new generation of heroes was a very sensible one I thought. At least if the plan is to relaunch the franchise and bring in new fans.

Wow , I thought the fight scenes with Ray felt very organic and powerful.....

Luke as a badass older Wolverine type teamed with a young apprentice (as trilogy co-leads) journeying through the world of Mando pursued by a cool dark side villain could have been awesome, with Han and Leia important cameos.

The "new generation of heroes" thing to me never works because franchise core story resides much more in the classic original characters than people think - and making new-Luke female didn't cover up the weak retread aspect. And as much as I like Adam Driver, I never bought new generation Darth as Han and Leia's son for an instant.

I also never bought the fiction of a "whole new generation of fans" either, nearly always framed as "more diverse," which was endlessly used to mock and deride older fans (the "neckbeard" phenomenon.) With their kids they in fact remain the majority of SW fans in terms of viewership and merchandise. Look at the audience demographics and you see this clearly.

Also JJ Abrams. He considered bringing Luke into the story earlier but he said he would have "overpowered" the story (or the conflict? Hazy memory of his comments) and was not a good enough writer to avoid that.

If Kennedy is truly gone hopefully whoever takes over is wise enough to realise that much of what Disney made, especially the sequel trilogy, needs to be de-canonised for the franchise to move forward. And the franchise needs to move FORWARD. Prequels etc can only get you so far.
