McConaughey does seem to be pretty much the same in every role he's in, and that doesn't seem very different in the trailers for this one. Really slight variations on a theme, even though he can be a good guy, bad guy, or other in that context. Sorta like Owen Wilson. He played the most convincing serial killer I've probably ever seen in a movie, but wasn't all that different from his roles in romantic comedies or Wes Anderson movies :lol

I like McConaughey just fine, though. Thought he was great in Frailty.

You know I think you may even be right for this but it just friggin works! He is a little different in this and you will see what I mean by that when and if you see it. Whilst I can't say I have seen McConaughey's full film library I do recognise certain traits here. I think you will appreciate however he does raise his game for this. I thought he was superb! Much like Gosling as The Driver, McConaughey made the very creepy disturbed Joe Cooper his own.

I finally saw this film today and I must say that it wasn't that bad. I was regretting my decision to even rent it before I watched it because all of the reviews made it seem like it was an exercise in the grotesque. They had me believing he was going to do something much more violent with that piece of chicken.:lol

That's not to say that some of the content in the film wasn't disturbing; it was, but I think it seems tame in comparison to what you think it will be after all of the reviews.:lol

Note: when I say that it wasn't that bad, I'm referring to the content of the film; the actual movie was really, really good.

I really don't see what the big deal was. Was it disturbing? Yes, but, from reading the reviews, it seems like they really sensationalized it; I thought he was going to put a chicken leg through someone's eye or something grotesque like that. Let me tell you, I love KFC too much to let a little thing like a movie take it away from me. I never eat the legs, anyway.:lol

On a side note, that "strokin'" song made me lol.
