Just curious on this one - unless I missed it completely,
Gene, Paul, and Ace don't come with guitars or a bass?

This seems like a mighty big thing not to include, especially
Gene's axe-shaped bass. That is a "signature" instrument!

Any thoughts on this?

I can understand why people would be disappointed. At the same time I have never seen a guitar that looked any good. Particularly the strings. That alone can cheapen the overall look immensely.

That was the first thing to stand out to me as well, well that and Paul's incredibly hairy chest! :sick :lol

I was thinking about getting these but with no instruments I will pass on them all together. Perhaps some 12" versions will come along with instruments.

Can't say I'm surprised about the absence of guitars with these figures; it would have been difficult, and no doubt pricey, to get them to look right. And as previously pointed out, it may have necessitated an additional license fee for their signature guitars to be included. I AM surprised, however, that they decided to give Pete drumsticks since Ace, Gene and Paul are lacking intruments.

I admit to being a long-time KISS fan (since '75, really), so I've already pre-ordered the full set with Flex-Pay. I own both sets of the 24" Art Asylum KISS figures sold thru Spencer ( Destroyer and Love Gun), which I thought were excellent, as well as the original 12" Mego figures. I hope a series of 1/6 scale figures happens as well. I am a bit concerned about a couple of the likenesses on the PFs(Gene and Paul, ironically, who figure to be the 2 most popular pieces), but I have confidence that SIDESHOW will tweak and improve upon these before release.

One glaring omission I noticed, which I do hope Sideshow corrects: the lack of "batwings" on Gene's costume!

I'll be waiting for the 1/6 figures... if they make them. I must say, even though my family is as big as Kiss fans as you'll find, we're passing on these. They just aren't that good. The costuming is fairly nice, but the likenesses, poses, and lack of instruments is just terrible. At SDCC, I'm telling Sideshow how to make some real good Kiss (an other Musicians) figures (they would be 12"ers for one thing).

I like them. I plan on ordering them if I have the funds. :) Just wish Paul was doing one of his jazz hands poses & Ace giving the thumbs up pose.

They look good... but come on. Keith without his Tele? Jimi without his Strat? Angus without his SG? I personally wont get any piece that doesnt have the musicians instrument with (I'll only get guitarists though).
Maybe its to do with licensing, but it would be way worth it to get the brands consent...
Ridiculous.

I think Pablo and the crew have done a great job on these with or without the guitars.

There should be no reason they can't come with their instruments. Gene's axe bass is his own, so rights shouldn't be an issue. Ace has a sunburst, even his own brand of one, which they had with the Spinal Tap figures. Paul could even have a generic electric guitar if they made it straped to his back and he was singing into a mic or something. Peter could even just come with a stool, a few roses, and a mic for Beth. Sideshow totally dropped the ball. My dad an I hope Gene is able to make an appearence this year before he heads to Japan. We'll tell him and Sideshow how to save the line (with or without guitars). How hard would it have been to have them in their Destroyer album poses if they can't come with instruments? Or Love Gun?

I think they look pretty cool (I'm not a kiss fan either) but if Johnny Cash is made he can't be made without his guitar, that just wouldn't be right.

Ditto on that

I was kinda expecting that the exclusives will have the guitars. The statues still great but I will pass these.

I read Ace sued ReSaurs for useing his name & guitar without his permission. I doubt he would let anyone use either for a KISS product now. I think Paul's Shattered Mirror guitar is his own like Gene's Axe bass is his own. I noticed all the McFarlane Ace figures do not have his siganture Gibson Les Paul. It's useually a difrent color. I just hope if they do make them in 1/6th Scale they have the instruments.

This haven't improved over the images I saw in Tomart's Action Figure Digest. I'm definitely passing on these. Not to mention that the exclusive item is absolutely lame.

I'll wait 6-8 months after release and get 'em for a song on eBay. If not, I just won't have 'em.

It's very possible that the guitars haven't been finished yet. Keep in mind that the order pages clearly state that the prototypes themselves are still in development. Most of these aren't even coming out until next year. Actually, I'm surprised they're already up for pre-order considering the 2007 release date. The band member with the 4th quarter release...yeah, I can see why that's available already.

I can't see Sideshow excluding instruments from these figures.

As to the earlier comment about the drumsticks being included with the one statue, that supports the idea that the guitars haven't been sufficiently sculpted yet. I mean, how hard can drumsticks be to sculpt??? Of course, they'd be ready for the pre-order images.

Perhaps this will be addressed in a future Production Blog or podcast...
