Due to a bizarre twist of fate that I won't even get into I actually...saw this movie, in a Premium Atmos auditorium...on opening night. Not on my cinematic Bingo card prior to this week, lol.

And...I really enjoyed 80% of it. I didn't know it was gonna be rated R and I didn't know that Russell Crowe was going to be in it and finally actually playing a badass again. ATJ (that felt weird to type so I double-checked to be sure, yep he has the same initials as Anya Taylor-Joy, lol) was jacked as hell, Calypso was cool, the whole cast was pretty solid in fact.

I felt like it had much more in common with John Wick, Sisu, and Blade than anything from the MCU...until that freaking Rhino fight that ironwez shows above. Sigh. I wish they had just kept it gritty, bloody, and "grounded" through to the very end. Not only was Rhino weird looking but they were also surrounded by a never ending stampede of dodgy looking CG buffalo as well. They even added some quippy one-liners to the fight which were all but absent the entire movie before that.

The final scene between Kraven and Crowe was MUCH cooler than the cartoony Rhino fight, I wish that that had been the sole finale and they just let the character who would become the Rhino stay a normal human. From there the film felt like it dragged a bit as the ending seemed to really want to work in some comic book "universe building." So sadly another example of an otherwise solid movie that goes the cliche "CGI slugfest" route at the end.

I *was* really into pretty much the whole film up to that point though, and would definitely watch it again before a good number of MCU films, including Black Panther.
That seems to be the consensus.

Decent grounded gritty family crime drama with JW style action with an awesome looking ATJ….then

CARTOON GOOFY RHINO!!!!! lol

Yeah. I'm reminded of my first reaction to the Thomas Jane Punisher where people were like "Thomas Jane?? Florida?? Moving freaking hire hydrants to give bad guys parking tickets?? Oh great ANOTHER cliche 'make your logo out of fire scene'??" But then after people processed it they were like "wait, that movie was actually pretty good," lol.

Also for anyone who cares there's absolutely nothing magical about the lion blood that gets mixed with his own. It's just a regular but massive lion. But then Calypso comes to his aid and gives him this magic witch potion that heals him and brings him back to life. But like the teleporter in The Fly when it reassembles his cells and wounds it brings EVERYTHING back to life which merges the lion and human DNA together. Super far out obviously, but as far as origins for superhero powers go I thought it was actually pretty cool.

That punisher movie was so amazing. Def a early 00s good movie

I swear, any one of us could have been the most successful studio executives ever.

Who the **** are these idiots and why don’t they understand anything?
Because they don’t know the fanbase they only want money and look at charts all day. Sony has been trying to create this stupid universe with Spider-Man villains since 2014. I think part of it is cause avi arad wants to prove he can make a universe like marvel can. But you can’t make a damn universe with characters that are so heavily tied to one person lol. Doesn’t work like that.

Seriously they are just a bunch of out of touch suits and old people who know nothing about the lore or characters

Yes and Kraven feels like a solid R-rated throwback movie as well (NO "modern messaging" whatsoever.). Hell if Blade can survive Stephen Dorff then Kraven can survive 5 minutes of Rhino, lol.
Hmmm I’ll give it a shot one day but I just don’t think Sony deserves my money or any money for that matter. I’ll catch it on streaming. Also I think kraven is the most uninteresting Spider-Man villian next to mysterio

It helps that Kraven is my favorite Spiderman villain more so than Venom.

Kraven was always cool.

God I hate Sony’s Venom lol

Honestly I'd rather see this Kraven paired up with Russo Cap over Spider-Man. Evans Cap and Black Widow versus Kraven and Calypso would be awesome. Kraven is basically a super-soldier in this anyway, plus you'd have the whole US versus Russia angle. People would be torn on who to root for because both sides would be so cool.

Russell Crowe's character in this is badass and more in line with a comic accurate Kraven.

This movie is 100% better than both Venom 1 and 2 (I haven't seen the third one.)

Yes yes and yes!

ATJ Kraven > Chinless Mackie Cap

Oh hell yes, a thousand times yes!

In other news I just saw that this is tracking to make 12 million dollars this weekend?? 3 million LESS than Madame Webb??? Uh yeah if you want to see this on the big screen go today because it will be GONE next weekend, lol. On the flip side the 4K release should hit about mid-January, lol.

someone posted the entire rhino fight on YouTube lol

it reminded me of that movie Cats with Taylor swift

It’s just amazing that so many studio heads are this way. They learn nothing.
Hell, I’m beginning to think the first 10 years of MCI was a happy accident.
KK and SW… OMG.

Why can’t they hire a real ideas person that “gets it”
