Re: Las Vegas bound this Sunday. List your favorite things to do in Vegas

When I go to Vegas the wife and I spend HOURS on this machine at a time.

MGM. Near the tigers. Best game in Vegas. They also just installed one on the second floor of the "D" in downtown.

Its a very slow burn on the cash if you just play 25 cents or so each game. You can bet much higher if you want.

Fun game. The goal is simply to pick the top 2 horses in any order, ie a quinella. The odds/payout are posted before each race. Anywhere from 2-1 to 200-1. You see them in red on the videos.

I'm going in October. I also have tickets to Peter Gabriel and Cirque du Solie Ka.

tigers? you mean lions!

not a gambler, but i could see this being fun. i will definitely check it out.

Whatever you do, don't get those foot long hot dogs unless you want to feel like crap for the rest of the month.

Terrible tummy aches & they make you want to sleep for the rest of the vacation. Who knows what the hell is in those things!

It's funny that you mentioned the hot dogs there. My dad is in Vegas this week and he ALWAYS gets those damn things. :( I'm sure they're like 90% rat tail.

I think 90% rat tail is a compliment. There's no way those things are even real meat. Yuck! :monkey4

duh. tigers are at the mirage.

When I first went to Vegas almost 15 years ago there were many of the racing macines.

NYNY had a really colorful one
Cesears had a chariot race
Excalibur had knights (it actually caught on fire while I was playing)
Luxor had camels

For about 8 years the MGM was the only one left until the D got one just last month during the reopening.

I am a nerd for this machine. Depending on the crowd that plays this game it can get pretty exciting, with people yelling at the machine and cheering it on. Once I was at the machine and everyone played the 200-1 and it actually paid out, probably combined the table won $1000 or so on that race and it was pandemonium as the race ended. Small potatoes but most of the people who play it are not exactly big time gamblers.

I've done one of the Cirque du Soleil shows with the wife. It was def more for her than me. I enjoyed it but not for the price.

I love their shows! They are pricey though. Some are cheaper than others and get the cheaper seats because they pretty much all are good seats.

I haven't been there in years and most of the shows I've been to are gone. Shows are pricey, but since I only go there once in a blue moon, I splurge.

I saw Michael Crawford in EFX twice because it was so good.

looking forward to checking this out in august... last time i bothered to gamble was only because i was surprised to see a game of War being offered at a dealer's table. like War, the machine looks like some old school Chevy Chase type fun!

Anybody ever done a fire bet on the craps table? I suck at rolling but it can be done.

Re: Las Vegas bound this Sunday. List your favorite things to do in Vegas

Excuse me for buttin' in on this conversation but I'm also a Vegas fanatic (but not much of a gambler) so figured I'd add some of my suggestions.

Try walking through each casino to see what they have to offer, i.e., the registration lobby & pool is a must for each hotel, also try the art museum & atrium gardens @ Bellagio, Shark Reef Aquarium @ Mandalay Bay, Auto Collection & Dealer Impersonators @ Imperial Palace, Aquarium & Atrium @ Mirage, moving statue shows & aquarium @ Caesars, The Chandelier Lounge @ Cosmopolitan (and at night, they have window dancers located outside the north side of the building) and last, but not least, the shops @ Caesars, Planet Hollywood, Venetian, Wynn/Encore, Bally's/Paris make for a great walk and/or gelato break.

You'll also find that Excalibur, Planet Hollywood, Bally's have bands at their bars at night and NYNY, Bally's/Paris & Flamingo have great Piano Bars. NYNY & Excalibur also have gals dancing at the gamble tables for your entertainment.

And if you go to the downtown area, the Fremont Street Experience has a great light show at night (I believe from 8-12), cool bands (several stages), a zip-line and plenty of unusual impersonators and street performers.

If you don't mind driving, the Lounge at the Palms as a great band, Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns, that play every Monday night @ 10:30 for only $10. The Hard Rock Hotel (off the strip--on Paradise Road) is also a cool place to visit and if you want a delicious breakfast/lunch buffet, try the M Resort, Spa & Casino (about 15 mins south of the strip but well worth the drive) or Mandalay Bay's buffet (they also have a House of Blues there).

And lastly, if you want to sun/swim, you can check with each hotel but you do not have to be a guest to use their pool--some charge a small fee (I've been lucky 'cause most allow ladies in for free) but it's well worth it. Of course, if you're looking for a pool party or cabana rental it'll be much more expensive.

We now return to your regular programming...:wave

I used to like to go to a Casino in the older part of Vegas...I am going to try to remember the name of it...but they had simple gambling games there like flipping coins...I thought it was fun.

War rules, you dont even want to know how much money I have won playing that game. Best part is its the only game I will play while drinking. It takes no thought, just remember not to go to war (thats the sucker bet part of the game)
