That steelbook is awesome. I was at best buy and they didn't have it. Picked up the 3D release and I have to say with the third watching this film got better now that I know the godzilla action doesn't come until the end. The Hawaii cut is still bothersome to me but once we get to San Fran there's enough awesome to forgive it. The film rolls pretty fast to me as well, the human characters still leave alot to be desired but there's enough monster action that I never got to the point where I was bored.

The 3D at home was also awesome, there's alot of wide epic shots that feel so real in 3D, worth the purchase to me.

Yeah, I think so many people were just thrown for a loop with the misleading trailers. It wasn't even that the trailers hid spoilers but they literally showed false footage. Like the bunker doors closing in front of Godzilla's roaring mouth making you think he was coming after the people but then in the movie when the bunkers close he's instead fighting a MUTO.

But now that we can settle in to him being somewhat of a "good guy" who only appears after the bad guys run amuck we can adjust, take the film for what it is, and actually enjoy it quite a bit.

Watched it at home lastnight after having seen it like 4 times in the theater.

Still love it, and the parts that bugged me before now bug me less. :lol

Yea I feel like it's one of the those films that needs to be seen a few times so you can watch it for what it is and not what you thought it was going to be. Even when I knew it was Godzilla the good guy before I saw it I wasn't expecting as little as Godzilla as we got, but the little bit we do get, is pretty awesome.

The movie does get more enjoyable with repeat viewings, although I did enjoy it very much with the one time I saw it in the theaters.

There were at least 2 references hinting at Mothra which I thought was awesome. You can also argue that there was a reference to the 1,000-year old Dragon (King Ghidora). I think it was at the 1:42:40 but I'll check again when I watch it the 3rd time. :)

As much as I criticize the movie, it's been the one thing on my iTunes I keep watching. It is an easy movie to watch. The human scenes are very easy to watch while multitasking. You don't miss anything lol. The monster scenes are all sweet, but as a Godzilla fan (a hardcore one), I still wanted more of that. But I still feel for the Mutos. They were sympathetic. Ghidrah was a *****. But the Mutos kind of felt like they were the victims of the story, not just of Godzilla himself.

But the way they moved and fought, the sound, the CG, it's all beautiful.

One thing that bugs me each time I watch it (okay, there's way more than one thing), but the news coverage of giant monsters attacking America are so fake to me. Like one was "devastation in Hawaii" or something like that and the other was like "Las Vegas destroyed". You would think the frickin headline would be GIANT EFFING MONSTERS/DINOSAURS ARE DESTROYING AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry....but if that crap happened, the conversations people would be having would not be "oh wow did you see what happened to Ceasar's casino?" It would be "what the **** is that thing!?!?"

Another thing that bothers me is how the helicopter manages to not see Godzilla and crash into his spines. How the hell do you not see him when he's literally on your 3 0'clock.

And the whole boat part with the bomb ticking still baffles me lol. It's just edited so sloppy. Thank god that Godzilla's kill shot is sweet enough to partially distract me for a minute.

Well said GS, and great observation.

You know what though, humans adapt pretty quick, we have seen so many monster movies that it just might not shock us as much as you might think it would.

Imagine watching Godzilla 2014 then going outside and seeing a giant monster walking around. :lol

My fear would be spiders the size of Godzilla, spiders are quick. :lol

I would rather get blasted by atomic breath than get injected with crap that will liquefy me for consumption. :lol

Stoopid spiders.

You know how strong insects are...can you imagine an insect that big? lol

A praying mantis the size of a bus or a bridge....holy **** lol

How do you not notice Godzilla when he's at your 3 o'clock? When you're zeroing in on a MUTO on your 12 of course. :lol They were just a *bit* preoccupied when Godzilla showed up. And the chopper didn't crash into his spines. They did a "whoa!" and pulled up and dodged him and then hit the MUTO.

The news coverage was great. I loved the "Terror in Vegas" or whatever it said on the screen in the casino while everyone was just oblivious to it.

I watched it again tonight. Man, dat finale. Everything from the Golden Gate Bridge to the end is pure gold. That's a hell of a solid 40 minute chunk. And I noticed this time around that Brody/Godzilla had a bit of an Elliot/E.T. bonded link thing going on. When Brody was tired in the middle of the fight, Godzilla was tired. When Brody collapsed on the boat, Godzilla collapsed. When Brody rose to embrace his wife, Godzilla rose to...embrace the ocean? Anyway they didn't really play it up but I thought it was kind of cool.

At the start of the San Fran battle, Godzilla took down the female rather quickly, he put his big foot on her chest and was about to blast her with his atomic ray when the male Muto interrupted by attacking him.

That was cool. :lol

Twice the male saved the female. The first as you mentioned, and judging by his posturing, it seemed like he was readying to fire some atomic ray at her when he got interrupted. The second time, after he used the atomic ray on her, he was ready to go in for the kill and the male got him again. Some of the best shots of Godzilla came from the final moments between him and the male, the shot from my signature, his staring the male down just before the kill, just incredible.

I love the connection between Ford and Godzilla, it's there enough to be cool but subtle enough that it's not in your face and cheesy, you actually have to stop and think about it to pick up on it, which is great. Some movies would have intercut shots of Ford and Godzilla both fighting or something and we'd be like, we get it, they're fighting the same fight.
