Soon as I can. Let's see your's Mike! I haven't finished mine yet. Still looking for British soldier clothing for the figure. I want him pre white robe....

Like this...

My Larry was totally painted up except for some hair highlights. Sadly, while playing a little indoor fetch with the pup, the head got knocked off it's perch, and Larry took a spill that shattered his left ear. I'm beside myself.

Now I HAVE to make him in his classic Arabian gear just to cover up his Evander Holyfield ear.

My Rod Serling head arrived with a Holyfield ear, but I was able to rebuild the missing part with Magic Sculpt. Larry may be salvageable.

But I want to do the white robes for my Lawrence, and I may just take artistic liberties with the headpiece (like not include it). I have a good fabric to use, but I haven't even begun to gather references yet from which to devise a pattern...because there's this dang glasses project to conquer first...but that's another thread.

When's the baby due, Mikey?

The problem is that he's already painted, so I can't put him in water or in the oven to cure.

Oh, my son was born on September 1st! He was 9 pounds, and born via C-Section. He's beautiful. Thanks for asking!

Hey! Congrats! That's a wonderful thing! :D

Now about that ear: Magic Sculpt is a two part epoxy putty, no water, no oven. It self-cures, after about an hour of working time. Seal the paint with Dullcote, use painter's blue masking tape or a liquid mask to protect the head from getting putty slop on it. Don't try to build the whole ear in one sitting. Mix the MS, let it set up for about ten minutes so it handles well, and build the extension of the ear without the outer rim. You won't use much material. You can smooth it with a moist paintbrush, then leave it for a day. (Use a brush you're ready to part with -- you can try cleaning it, but it's probably finished after this.) The next day build the outer rim. When that's dried hard, remove your masking and touch up the paint as needed. You'll be able to sand the MS if need be, but be gentle since this is a protruding part that could snap again if it's pressured.

I find Magic Sculpt holds a shape a little better during working than Aves Apoxie does. The trick is to let it set up a bit. If you go right at it as soon as you've mixed the two parts, it's a little too sticky to shape.

you listen to Gruff you live longer. :)

That'll actually work wonderfully, Mikey. I'm really sorry to hear about the damage! gaaaah! a little magic sculpt will work perfectly for repairing that.

speaking of Lawrence...I sure would love to help in making his accessory items. Namely the Agal and dagger (with sheath) Obviously I'm not exactly quick to getting to stuff like that, but I will keep it in mind. For a robed Lawrence the ears and hair would likely need to be ground down. I'll put it all on my list of future side projects. I'm sure it could all be accomplished in a weekend. OH how I would love to see both versions of Lawrence in figure-form...I'd also love to alter the Kenobi sculpt into Feisal...and if I had an abundance of time, Lawrence would definitely have Ali alongside him as well.

dreams are fun,
Trev
