Most of you are looking at it as a totally one sided view pointing the finger at the actor. realize that it takes two to tango, actor and said company.

Perhaps a company can only offer a celeb a certain amount of money to use their likeness and in negotiations refuses to meet what the celebrity would agree to.

There are so many variables in why licensing is not achieved it is impossible for us to find the exact reason why.

Or to add to the above, they might refuse to put the effort in to nail the likeness the actor wants, or they want to do things with the figure that the actor might not want. Things like using it for a movie that they hated doing and don't want represented, or in unflattering poses, whatever.

Like if Hot Toys had said, hey Arnold, we'll pay you the amount you want for your Predator likeness, but you have to agree to a 2 figure deal with us and we'll be using your likeness for a Jingle All The Way Arnold as well. Then maybe he wouldn't have agreed!

Maulfan, what are your thoughts on the fact that Kyle Reese appeared in T2 - albeit only the special edition - but there has never been a figure of his appearance in that film (his outfit seemed identical to what he wore in the first film so he would pass for T1 Reese)?

For how small the role was in T2, it probably wasn't worked into Biehn's contract, only key people like Arnold, Patrick, Hamilton and Furlong.

What if Sonny Landham saw a custom repaint of the HT Billy figure? A good repaint looks just like Billy. Maybe Sonny would go off the deep end and not check his facts and turn up as HT's offices and start beating people... he's meant to have a pretty bad temper after all...

Some repaints look solid, but there isn't one that looks perfectly like Sonny, the sculpt just isn't there. If anyone wanted to argue that Sonny's likeness was used in any way on that figure, they'd have a weak case.

Hmm. Maybe. I was hoping there might be a loophole there that could get us a T1 1984 Kyle Reese.

There was some...i dont know its a urban legand or something...that they had security on the set of Predator...NOT to protect Landham, but to protect the other cast members, crew and staff FROM Landham should he have one of his mood swings...

:gun :horror :angelsmil

This was stated on the dvd commentary by the director so it's probably true.

Yeah, i was just amusing myself with this image of Sonny storming into HT's offices and causing a ruckus, then laughing (like he does in Pred) after he realises theres nothing to worry about... didnt really think that was going to happen...

Not all estates say yes. The James Franciscus estate turned down Sideshow for their request to make a Brent in his likeness for their Planet of the Apes 12" line.

And as for Gary Oldman... all of the merchandise from the Harry Potter films (NECA figure, Gentle Giant busts) bear his likeness. Did he make an exception for Potter or did he not read the fine print in the contract?
