I was thinking, have you seen the original good guy doll that someone here or facebook group I think posted that is at Hard Rock Cafe, the skin is very dark, it changed color and what if the original, or the stunt models were made of resin and that is the reason why it changed color?
This means that is the future for resin dolls like Garret Zima and others
Resin does yellow regardless of what you do
Zima claims that he puts a "basecoat" and it will never yellow. I don't buy that. Resin will always yellow. You think resin dolls are not basecoated with paint? They all are. Otherwise, they would have no color. It will probably not yellow in 3 or 4 years, which is the longest people have owned Zima's dolls
but if you look at other resin dolls, they all yellow and the original stunt with dark skin at Hard Rock cafe is proof of that
Why zima uses resin? Its cheaper and he is only making a few. To make vinyl dolls, you need to buy expensive metal molds, this is no problem for companies that will produce thousands like tots.
Resin will probably make it look better, but I would be so afraid to drop that sucka especially after having spent $2000-2500 and you have a big head, made of a material that is fragile
Same for Karla Peralta dolls, is also resin
The only hand made creator that uses vinyl as far as I know, is sfxstudios and that makes it the superior doll, as it has the look of Zima's movie accurate head, but without the fragility of resin.
It also has a cabbage type of body, which makes it more flexible and sturdier than foam body, which is inferior and it can break, disintegrate, rot. Why Zima and Peralta use foam? Cheaper. Same for tots, of course.
for the $2500 theshape6 spent on his doll, he could've bought the sfxstudio probably for same price or even less that that and have a superior doll in head and body, that will last him a lifetime, instead, he now has to be extremely carefully with that resin head and wonder when it will turn yellow
Not to mention, Zima's decision to cut a hole in the doll for a $12 sound box is a bad one. This is polyfoam which is the cheapest foam ever. Cutting a hole, which is an huge cut that can expand overtime is not a good idea.
