I have a bunch of Lonnie's heads. Great quality at a very affordable price. The Blaine is great in person. I'm in the midst of screwing up the paint job on mine then I'll post pics. I also have his Bogie, Kirk, Spock, Amanda Tapping, Jim Kelly, Ricarh Dean Anderson, Superman, Teal'c, Last Samauri Cruise, Cary Tagawa, Unforgiven Clint, Dirty Harry Clint, Lee Marvin, Rutger Hauers, Blade, Alex Ross Superman, Schwarzeneggers, both Hestons and, of course, his Planet of the Apes gorilla.

You mean there's more than one besides Batty? What are the other ones?? I'd much preferred to have had a long-haired Hitcher Hauer.

No, sorry for the confusion. There was Batty, then there was redone Batty with the hair done a bit different.

Getting heads from Lonnie is like breaking into fort knox.I was willing to spend money and he didnt want to sell what I wanted. Not sure why it matters what time a year it is to buy them?

I've had Lonnie do up some customs for me in the past. I think the reason he doesn't sell them to everyone is because he respects the relationship with the individual commissioning a piece. He doesn't want to betray their trust bu offering what they paid in the hundreds for to others for 15.00 . Yeah, he's got several I'd like to also get & can't, but I understand his perspective. He's not trying to be difficult, just honorable. I respect that

As Knucklefinger said...Some sculpts were done as private commissions. Lonnie's agreement with the person that paid for the commission, was to only make each sculpt available to the general public one time a year by a single Ebay auction. I happen to have had a couple commissions done and the cost was several hundred dollars for each sculpt. Lonnie is a great guy and just honoring his agreements.

I've had great dealings with Lonnie & the sculpts I've bought & service was stellar, but I think the once-a-year thing flat out sucks. I've tried to win several and the bidding went flat-out retarded. Hero Heads still pop up alot in discussions, but I think the sculptors here at SSF are really where it's at now. Hero Heads really hasn't evolved much over the years and for some of the prices those once-a-year heads go for, you could comission several heads from guys like Chris Howes or Spenser or buy tons of their group-rate-discounted heads.

Some people may look at it differently, but my opinion is that Hero Heads is creating a sense of "rarity" to the sculpts which causes prices to shoot throught the roof & really increases interest for recasters due to the crazy prices. I've observed this tactic for years & I've never liked it. It only benefits Lonnie & the people with huge amounts of disposable income.

Does Lonnie actually sculpt the heads or does Jim Maddox? If he thinks the 15.00 is not enough,he should charge more.People will either buy it or not.If he does take a commission for a head,it's not like he owns the likeness,so I dont see the big deal what he sells them for or who he sells them to.

I'm not sure who sculpts them actually.

As said before he has loads of heads he's done as private comissions but he just wants to honour the deal and respect the buyer by just making it available for them. I mean, if I paid $100+ for him to sculpt a head for me that wasnt available anywhere else and then found out he sold off casts later for $10 each, I'd be pretty pissed.

What would be good though is if he could come on here and offer a group commision rate like Spenser and Chris Howes do...that way we can all chip in to a comission.

To date I've got 17 heads of his most of which I'm just happy to display free-standing without bodies.

Examples please?

There's been plenty of times where the "October Special" heads have went for $300-$400 in the past. I bid on a Milla head a few years back that ended for around $350 (I gave up around $30).

I see it more as a way to profit through creating a rarity of an item rather than some type of agreement to benefit the person who had the sculpt comissioned. People keep saying it's an honorable thing and all, but nobody ever explains how exactly it benefits the one who commisioned the sculpt (I'm listening!). I mean, there are 2 Roy Batty heads (one with dry hair look, one with the rooftop wet look) and one is made rare while the other is common.

BTW - I think Jim Maddox sculpts the heads & Pacobird paints them. I think Lonnie is just the head of the business. I'm not 100% but I think that's how it was basically explained years ago & things may have changed.

I'll be honest with ya. I love dealing with Lonnie, & I have to say that I for one would not be upset if he offered the Night Watch head to the general public for purchase. I wanted it, it wasn't a group commission,so there. If anyone wants an Anton Gorodetsky you have my permission. I'm not greedy with the sculpt

It doesn't benefit the person who commissioned the sculpt unless they choose to sell casts themselves. The point is the person paid 400+ to have the sculpt done as a PRIVATE COMMISSION. Not to be greedy but I for one would be pretty upset if one of the private commission I had done, was being sold for $10 each when I paid $400 plus and had a agreement that this wouldn't happen. As I said the person who had the sculpt commissioned can always sell the casts themselves for whatever price they want if they choose too. Which also happens to be part of the agreement. Not honoring the original agreement would be a sleaze bag thing to do. Lonnie does honor his agreements so he is a honorable guy. If someone has a better idea on how it should be done, they should pony up the original costs, get a sculpt made and sell them anyway they decide is best.

Jim does do the sculpts and Lonnie molds, casts and sells the heads. I also have to say that Lonnie is also a great guy for selling heads at the low price of $10 each. It's very reasonable and there is no way he is getting rich off of that price, so if he makes a few bucks on Ebay once a year so be it. No one is being forced to bid and getting any toy head you want at a cheap price is not a human right.

Yeah man, I already said Lonnie is cool with me in my dealings with him, I'm just not a fan of the once-per-year deal. I've bought tons of heads from Hero Heads, so as a repeat customer it's kind of a letdown to me to not be able to get certain heads for a fair price.

Recasters are buying those heads and offering them due to the created rarity of the sculpts. On all of Lonnie's auctions he says to buy from the source and get quality, so that really goes against the customer who commisioned the sculpt selling their own copies.

The one thing I forgot to mention is the person who commissions the head has the option to make the head completely exclusive to them if they choose to. It is not like you are being forced to let him have a once a year sale on Ebay. So the benefit is what the trade off is for allowing the sculpt to be included in the once a year sale.

Jim Maddox sculpts them, Lonnie Hale casts and sells them.

I have two not mentioned yet, a simply fantastic looking Wolverine that was available to OSW members and a decent looking Trinity from the Matrix.
None are available anymore.
Sorry, I can't take pictures at the moment.

Lonnie is a incredibly nice guy and his prices are amazing.
