I think it's true. I really wanted a head made one time but I just couldn't swing it or justify it.

I am scheduled to get a 1/6 commisioned bust from this person over at Statue Forum and the cost is $500 . . . I would think just a head would be a lot less . .

A 1/6 portrait from a professional isn't going to be much cheaper than $500, and many pros will charge much, much more.

Another route P, would be to try and find a head that looks enough like your Dad and paint it to look close enough like him. Would be a lot cheaper. The clothing would be medium range.... I think if you went that route it would be around $170-200 for the whole figure. It won't be perfect, but it'll be close enough to make him smile.

I guess I should chime in here too then...... lol

I'm in the same situation as Les really... I've got about 45-50 commissions I'm working on, so I couldn't do it for a couple of months, but like Les said... if you get someone else to do it from here you'll be well covered.

I'm actually working on a similar thing, a one-off sculpt for someone who is making a World War One figure of his grandad, and I'm sculpting the head from a head I bought online that looked like a similar shape, and I'm resculpting it and repainting it to be him.

That $500 is expensive though... I'm about half that, but I guess that's how much it can cost from certain people

Feel free to give me a shout if you want any info. We could get the ball rolling by sourcing the figure with the uniform and I could start to look for a head I could use as a base to resculpt.

Whoever you go with I'm sure it'll turn out great

My Dad is a Lieutenant Cornel for the National Guard so his one rank away from being a general!

awww So you're an army brat and I never knew this. I just figured he was playing dress up for Halloween. But every day is Halloween to you guy's! Just kidding! That's so cool! Must be very proud of your father! Makes me proud of my mother, knowing that she was the Lieutenant Cornel of the National Mother of Brat. Anyone who could deal with me and support me the way she did and keep me through my entire grade 12 and secondary schooling is an amazing person. Without her I truely believe I would be in the gutter.

It's great being blessed with amazing parents! I hope all my Freaks share that in common with us P!tu! I should have a figure made of my mom... with that cold scolding glare, like I said something stupid, which is pretty often, and now experienced through the girlfriend. My legacy of driving a woman in my life nuts lives on!

you can get a head sculpted for a lot less than this. this "$500" rate is what a pro would probably charge. when i say "pro", i mean someone who has had their stuff turned into toys or statues by a company like sideshow or DC or who ever.
