Re: Lopie's MODs, Repaints, Repairs, and Customs

I decided to do something with left over parts I had laying around so I'm making a Clone Shadowtrooper Commander.

I also did a flag just so I can have something a little different with the clones. Its not finished still have to do some weathering.
I was able to spray the emblem on both sides.

I did some weathering on the shadowtrooper. I wanted it to look different then the other troopers so I used some brown and silver for battle damage. I also found a Hasbro jet pack that I'm going to use just need to put a magnet inside the jet pack and the armor.

Lopie,Ive been looking at these pics for the last two days so, I gotta ask cos that weathering is blowing my mind,
How on Vaders green earth have you done it, I'd love a quick run through what methods you used to get such seemless shading on it,maybe a quick tutorial for us lesser talented dollie geeks.
Are you using an airbrush , dry brushing or is it all done with slight of hand and the force :rotfl that kinda thing.

please, PRETTY PLEASE !!!!!!!! :dunno

First, I wanted so say thanks of the positive feedback guys, as for the weathering on this specific figure this is how I did it.

I used flat black and gray Krylon Spray paint. I painted the figure with black spray paint first then I let it cure for 1 week. I used Scotch Tape to tape off black areas that I didn’t want to spray gray. The tape method works great for crisp lines. Just remember not to over spray the armor; hold the armor about a 6-8 inches from the spray can and make sure you let that stuff cure don’t rush it.

Once I let the gray cure for 1 week I used the paints in the below picture for the weathering. I painted the brown in different areas once it dried I used %50 rubbing alcohol to remove some of the paint. Repeat this method with the black. When using the alcohol method I use just pour some alcohol on a wash rag and rub it over the brown paint in different directions depending on what affect I want to create. I’m sure there are better ways but this way works for me.

For the metal I use the dry brush method. The secrete is the spray paint, tape, and alcohol. LOL, I hope that helps if you have any more questions feel free to ask. But that spray paint works great I used it to make Shadow trooper and it came out mint.

Note: This paint comes in marker form but if you cut the wrapper the maker head twists off so
you can pour out the ink. And it comes in a lot off colors white, black, gun metal ect. and the other
cool things is you can mix the colors for customs.

Re: Lopie's MODs, Repaints, Repairs, and Customs

Thats interesting Jason. I do kinda the same thing, but I dont let my armor cure for that long after the initial spray. I may have to try that on the next clone I do.

Ive always like spraying black and then removing the base color for the weathering, but I may try this method down the road too. thanks for the tutorial. :)

Re: Lopie's MODs, Repaints, Repairs, and Customs

Got to work on this a little today. I put some magnets in the back plate and the jet pack. For the visor I decided to go with a chrome finish well its more of a mirror type tint.

Its auto type, I got it from Auto Zone. It works just like type but it has a chrome finish. Very easy LOL I think it comes in different colors to but all they had was chrome and I didn't want to wait.
