Now I can tell the difference. But do you think that enough people can tell the difference that they would be willing to spend the money on a player and new discs? On the average person's television, the HD improvement just isn't as striking as when they upgraded from VHS to DVD.

Yea, you would really have to have a 1080p tv to even tell the different. For the casual watcher, it probably isn't worth it. But for us here, it is :rock:rock

With the small pics there isn't much difference, but click on 1280 to the bottom right of the pics and there is a HUGE difference. Check the pics of the map for the biggest change.

And, those are only 720p and jpeg compressed. The comparison at the same downsized resolution makes no sense. Anyone who can't tell the difference between HD and SD does not own an HDTV. EDTVs don't count.

picture quality isnt enough to do it for me. im hoping for a ton of extra material and more behind the scenes etc. ill buy it for sure then, being the LOTR fan i am.:D

I am a fool and have bought EVERY SINGLE LOTR DVD that has been put out....I just had to have them all and they do have different special features, so it made it worth it for me. So ofcourse, I will also be buying these when they come out. My tv only goes up to 1080i, but I've been able to tell a big difference from the 480 (or whatever it was before I got the HD-DVD player and my PS3.) Someday I'll upgrade my tv to a 1080p...but for now I am content. :)

Yeah, HD broadcasts are notoriously soft because of all the compression compared to HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

I'll get LOTR on HD/Blue Ray when it comes out on that. I want them in the new format so its all good.

Saw the two towers on tv (720p broadcast) and WOW. Looked fantastic! :monkey5
Will probably buy, if they release it on Blu-ray.
We'll see...

:eek:monkey5:eek:monkey5:eek:monkey5 Just when you think LOTR can't get any better it has gotten unbelievably more awesome.

they need a format someday that can hold all 3 extended films on 1 disc. then they can remove the title screens and credits of each movie so we're left with one 10 hour movie. then i can just sit back and watch the whole thing without moving.:lol
