yeah but that was one in a million with what happened last year....now you are guaranteeing it happening every year....

Exactly. Plus, the "race" for the final spot can easily occur if 2 or more teams are competing for the 5th slot rather than the 4th slot like in the past. There's still a "final" spot to compete for so its not like that goes away.

It's 75 mill, 5 years on a 30 year old catcher that doesn't hit. Why would they need to pay him that much? No one else would shell out that much coin. I bet they could have gotten him for ten a year... and it bugs me because when Buster Posey is considered the best catcher in baseball (which won't take long) he'll then command one hell of a price tag because numbers determine arbitration negotiations, not defense or how he handles a staff (Posey does both just fine of course). It bumped the market on a position that didn't need to be bumped.

Sorry Flosi you're off the mark with Molina here. He's worth every penny of what the Cards are paying him.

He might well be, but my point is this: they're paying him far more than any other catcher in the league would be making with a similar skill set. He's paid well over scale, so to speak, which will then drive up the price on other catchers. Should it matter to you as a Cards fan? Not at all. But as a fan of a team with a really good young catcher it worries me.

<---- see Han's face? That was me when I read about the contract. :lol

That's the giants problem though. The Cards are paying him for his hitting (which he does just fine and at an All-Star level), gold glove, handling of a pitching staff, and arm (which few run on), etc. He's worth the money and in the end it will be up to teams like SF to keep their stars. Besides if they're gonna leave look they're going to leave. Look at Pujols it didn't matter what the Cards offered he was going to book anyways.

I think its too much for his output, but he plays a premium position. Personally, I think he's a thug, but whatever, the STL likes him.

Chipper announced today that this will be his last season. Thank god. Been sucking us dry for the last five years.

In these days of free agency it's nice to see someone come up with one club and finish with the same team.

Jones was a good player in his day. At first I didn't think he'd get the HOF, but he'll probably make it after a few tries.

What a terrible attitude about one of your teams greatest players. Jones while banged up some the last few years has gotten it done and been a class act his entire career. The braves and it's fans will miss a guy like that when he's gone.

Not at all. He was great. Hasn't been for a long time. He can barely play 120 games the last four years and the Braves haven't won a playoff series since 01. Only been to the playoffs 1 year since 05. Mostly because of bad baseball moves and Chipper's contract was one of them. Signed him to a 42 million dollar contract in 2010. Retarded. If Chipper wasn't a switch hitter he wouldn't even be mentioned as a sure HOF. His best year was 99 and if you look at him that year he was a completely different player.
