Too bad the Wii doesn't appeal to a lot of harcore gamers, an already huge and well established number. Honestly, I'm pretty sure there may be more established gamers out there rahter than people who would just willy nilly buy a Wii. Surely impossible to prove, yes, but you just can't compare things like Wii sales with PS3 and 360 when they do in fact shoot for a very different audience. The fact is, numbers are still far too strong for things like the 360 for them to already announce a new console. You announce it, and you draw away eyes for the 360 and put them on the new console. They're just going to announce something that they think will bring MORE eyes to the 360 itself, which will likely be the 360 connectivity to the new Zune HD.

LOL...Zune. :lol

You said nobody talked about announcements, and I proved they do. Stop being a baby about it. It's CNN dude, they post MANY different stories on their front page from their other websites, so who's to say that wasn't on the front page.

I said console announcements, and in general, the things that take place at E3 never become front page news (REAL front page news - meaning mainstream front page), and the masses are pretty much unaware it ever took place. Your CNN Money link does nothing to prove that wrong.

Who the ^^^^^k said I was trying to prove some correlation between sales and consoles being ANNOUNCED on websites?

:lol:lol did you forget what you posted below?

The problem with that is that it makes people want to WAIT for the next system. Why buy this system now when you can wait a few years and get a much better one. It's like announcing a price drop that's a month away. Would you buy the system now at the current price, or wait a few weeks for a better one?

And yes, companies annoucning new consoles IS front page news. You will see that slapped on the front of many news sites, especially since it would be an American product like the 360. I think Microsoft will wait a while before announcing a new system, because they can make a LOT more with a few more price drops in the future.

:lolIn the main stream media world - CNN Money is a nobody. Your local news, news papers, national news television morning shows - these are the players. And they don't bat an eye lash at what happens in E3. Or console announcements. That is how the general public - the bulk of the 100 million who bought the PS2 will become aware about the next generation of consoles - MAINSTREAM MEDIA AND PRESS, and by your own assumption will be 'scared off' buying current hardware with such knowledge.

Maybe he will announce that MS was sold to Sony and we can finally have the best of both worlds. Yeah i didn't think so either.

It'd be surprisingly progressive if any hardware announcements at E3 sparked mainstream news coverage at all.

Yeah, I don't think we're there yet. This industry is young, and still finding its place.

I can't think of anything bigger than a hardware announcement that would make Major Nelson say something like that. I'm probably overlooking that fact that microsoft cuts him a paycheck and hype is his nature - but that's my guess. I suppose it could be their zune360. I will be very disappointed if it's just an exclusivity announcement.

I don't think it's merely an exclusivity deal. I remember Peter Moore hinting at something along those lines in the calm before E3 2007 and then when the event came around he hopped on stage at the Microsoft's press conference and revealed a GTAIV tattoo on his bicep. That was "huge" news in the gaming world, but no cares outside of that microcosm.

The only way I'd accept an exclusivity deal being megaton-sized news in 2009 is if Major Nelson or whoever Msoft's spokesguy is now jumps on stage and moons us with a tattoo of a hot property spread across both cheeks. :lol

That might make frontpage news somewhere, but for different reasons.

Honestly, I think there will be a crash in Wii sales, it's already starting, in reality the casual gamers don't really care about the Wii. People are realizing that it was just something new, they wanted it because it was hard to get and it looked like it was fun. And now most people have gotten it and realize that they don't play it at all. PS2 sales have been pretty steady, that's not going to happen with the Wii, it's just going to drop more and more.

Even if there is a Wii sales drop, it's not going to crash if Nintendo keeps putting out titles like Wii Fit 2 and Wii Sports 2 (Wii Sports Resort) for the casual market. It's the hardcore crowd that Nintendo has to focus on.

Even if sales do drop off, the Wii has already sold over 50 million units. I don't think it could be considered a failure at any rate.

The Wii IMO has become almost like a status symbol. Everyone has to have one just to have one. Pretty smart marketing IMO. You think all those shortages were an accident? ;)

exactly..also consider that nintendo was also making a profit on every console sold since day one. unlike MS and Sony who were taking a loss for the first year or so.

Sony is still taking losses on the PS3, in fact, they've lost so much money on it that they've lost more money than what they made with the PS2. It was only about a year ago that the Xbox 360 finally started making money.

Wii profits were very small at the beginning, like $6 on every console (as to be expected) but the main problem is that lots of people already have them, and as people will be flooding the market with them when they realize that it isn't very good.

The casual and non-gamer crowds will just keep them if they aren't getting used. I can't see everyone rushing off to sell their Wii's..The price tag on it isn't so much an investment as a PS3 or one of the decent 360 SKUs. And I wouldn't expect this slow down on sales to last. Q1 and Q2 are traditionally slower months then the last half of the year in the gaming industry. If the numbers are still down then, that will be the sign of a trend. This is nothing.

Well here something for people to look forward to. Xbox Live in the UK will be able to recieve Satellite TV channels off a service through Live. If this also applies to North America then that would do it for me and Yes Microsoft has a few big anouncements game-wise but to me Satellite TV through Live is more important LOL.

If true and in NA, then that is freaking awesome.

Until you get 3 Red Lights then you can't play games or watch TV. That makes Jack a dull boy. :)

And I've had 3 myself so I ain't saying that from a PS3 fanboy POV.

All three consoles have their role. I have all three and it seems to play out that Wii are more focused not only on families but group play like Wii Sports and a few other titles which want four or more players at one time handling the console. The XBOX 360's power house is the Live feature which makes it the best option for going online and getting your gaming in (even though LIVE does have its issues) and PS3 for me anyway is the best when I'm playing role playing or something like that, solitary.

Honestly, as far as gameplay is concerned there isn't much difference between the PS3 and Xbox 360, the controller is only a different shape and the analog stick and d-pad are switched, but other than that they're very similar. There's not much that really makes them better for games. (until you're looking into online features).

Geoff Keighly left a tweet: "Xbox just moved up its briefing start to 10:25 am tomorrow due to a very special last-minute surprise."
